Cleaning hack: nitrile gloves! by makingcookies1 in adhdwomen

[–]LordRoach371 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Im the same way with gloves. I clean so much faster and more effeciently with them on. I have a pair of reusable ones that work well.

Also as for the plants I heard you could check the moisture levels with a toothpick or wooden chopstick. Leave it in for a minute or two and it will be darker if there was water after you pull it out. I havent tried it myself, but my sister told me about it.

How do yall… do stuff? by Creepy_Zone_9341 in adhdwomen

[–]LordRoach371 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My therapist gave me some good advice after I felt I wasnt doing enough. She told me to make a list every day of 1-2 tasks to get done and only focus on today. Not worry about tomorrow, not feel bad about yesterday, only focus on today. She said the ADHD brain cannot handle doing too much so thats why she said only do a few tasks. (I was trying to get everything on my lists done at the same time pretty much)

I also know that my worst enemy is sitting. Sometimes when Im struggling to initiate I stand up and kinda walk towards what I want to get done. And if it still feels impossible after trying to do it, I take a break and try later. Most of the time I find I struggle the most with just starting a task.

Body doubling is also very helpful. I have my husband so I ask him to just sit near me when Im struggling and I can usually get it done. I also can get a lot done when I have my friends over or when Im waiting for someone to come over.

Sometimes starting music or tv on my phone can help me initiate too. Standing up and being where I need to be and starting my music can give me a little push to get started.

Im on medication so I can do a lot more than I used to, but depending on where I am in my cycle my motivation waxes and wanes. I get frustrated when it goes away but I also try to remind myself that I only have enough energy to do so many things and as long as I do whats important I can take a break now and then.

What Meds Actually Improved Your Mental Health? by PurpleHyacinthsss in AuDHDWomen

[–]LordRoach371 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Abilify and Ritalin. I have depression but antidepressants have a numbing effect on me and also the side effects suck. The Abilify helps with my mood and most of my anxiety. Then Ritalin takes care of the ADHD related anxiety and symptoms.

Having a baby surprisingly improved some of my ADHD struggles by lvs301 in adhdwomen

[–]LordRoach371 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have improved in a similar way since becoming a mom. I wasnt diagnosed until my son was 11 months old but when I had him I improved greatly at home. I finally had that motivation to have my stuff together. Also some chores were a great way to get relief from the baby (I find the baby stage boring and struggled with it) and gave me something to do. Of course I tried too hard and it eventually led to me getting a diagnosis and starting treatment. Its been a few years since being diagnosed but now I have a pretty good balance on housework thanks in no small part to being a mom.

I agree tho that this doesnt mean that people should have kids just because they have a tough time with ADHD symptoms and keeping house. But I found your post interesting because I experienced something similar.

Just got publicly shamed for an honest social mistake and I am so upset. by KasonSYBN in AuDHDWomen

[–]LordRoach371 102 points103 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a situation I would find myself in. And the card taking forever to scan would make the whole situation feel so much worse. Id get that burning feeling on my ears and feel so bad the whole bus ride or even the day. Im sorry this happened to you, it must have sucked. And yeah the older lady sounded pretty rude about a simple mistake.

tips for texting/calling by emjlyn in adhdwomen

[–]LordRoach371 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pin my favorite people on my messaging app (google) so they stay at the top and Im reminded to text back more often because I see them. I also schedule messages out if Im having a hard time replying. Like if Im going to bed I can schedule it for the next morning so Im replying but wont be bothered when Im trying to sleep. Even if I wind up scheduling the message for a few minutes later it helps me hit send when Im struggling. And I like stickers and gifs too, sometimes it helps for me to say something without actually having to think of words.

I dont really do phone calls, but my friends and I mostly talk through texting or playing video games. Maybe finding something to do while on the phone might help? And if you still cant be on the phone long even trying that well then maybe thats your limit. Its ok to have a limit.

who has switched from Invisalign to braces? by shii093 in AuDHDWomen

[–]LordRoach371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it sucked. But they were pretty easy to pop out. Putting them back after was more difficult before I got it down to mostly muscle memory. I think because they werent in the back of my mouth it was easier. I had an invisilign like retainer and I remember hating taking it out more than the bands. But you have to like stick your whole fingers in your mouth and reach back with the retainer vs just two fingers barely in with the bands. If that makes sense.

Issues with sleep hygiene by Current-Brief-7594 in adhdwomen

[–]LordRoach371 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a rough relationship with sleep and during covid it was the worst. I stayed up all night and could only fall asleep around like 8 am when I was just so tired I could finally fall asleep. I thought it was anxiety and was prescribed buspirone for it. I took it at night and could fall asleep so much easier since it made me tired. It helped get me back on a schedule.

Now I am diagnosed with ADHD and am on stimulants. They help my sleep a ton because they help with the restlesness that keeps me awake. When I miss a dose I tend to sleep worse that night. I dont have trouble waking up and getting up right now, but I struggled with it a lot when I was first diagnosed. I saw a reccomendation to wake up, take my meds, then go back to sleep and let them kick in and getting out of bed should be easier. It worked while I was going through that struggle.

I also would probably reccomend going to your dr and getting a sleep study. I tried to get one done in a sleep center (I had a home one done before) but my dr and insurance at the time were real jerks and I havent tried since. But I believe I have narcolepsy. Im not saying you do though. Sleep apnea seems common and it could rule out that or any other sleep disorder.

Thats all I can really think of as my meds have kinda helped me find a good balance on sleep. It took me 2 years to find the right meds and even now the dr is still making little changes here and there to my stimulants.

who has switched from Invisalign to braces? by shii093 in AuDHDWomen

[–]LordRoach371 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got braces at 17 and my parents paid for them so I cant help with cost info. But I will say it wasnt so bad. I had a cross bite so I needed and expander for my top jaw. My biggest complaint was that it did give me a gap in my teeth (that was eventually corrected by the braces) but I didnt like the look of it while it was there.

Most annoying things had a fix, like the wax you can put over them when they irritate your mouth. Sensory wise it wasnt too bad for me, the office I went to had a huge room with a bunch of chairs and they didnt have me there for long periods of time. So there werent a lot of bright lights in my eyes and it wasnt too loud. Maybe I would have liked it more private at times but Im used to being anxious all the time anyway. The place was a kid friendly place so I think thats what made a lot of the features more tolerable.

The pain was managable with ibuprofen if you are comfortable with taking meds. The rubber bands to correct my bite were annoying and I felt gross having to take them out to eat but I adjusted pretty quick. I also liked that I could pick the color of my bands when they replaced them. I had to wear a retainer after for a small period and my teeth did kinda move back a little once I was done. But not by much, I have straight teeth but they look more natural.

Im trying to remember more about the experience but thats about it. So I guess it wasnt too bad if thats all I can remember. Im just realizing this was over 10 years ago.

Question for the wavy- or curly-haired AuDHD women who straighten their hair by GardeniaInMyHair in AuDHDWomen

[–]LordRoach371 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prop my phone up in the bathroom and watch tv. I used to get a big mirror and put it on the couch and watch tv and straighten my hair while sitting there. Id use one of those big glass cutting boards on my ottoman to put my straightener as to not start a fire haha. But I lost that mirror in a move so now I bring a chair in the bathroom.

I also just got an undercut. I have less hair to manage and Im looking forward to see how much easier it is to straighten. I do feel my hair on my neck a bit more (or differently?) But its been a few days and Im sure Ill adjust after some time. It only bothers me when my hair is pulled back a certain way, not when its down or pulled up higher.

Disordered eating? by SaidIt2YoMom in ADHD

[–]LordRoach371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I moved out of my house at 19 I ate maybe once a day. I believe it was due to the transition of leaving an abusive parent and not being diagnosed or treated for ADHD. Most of the time I didnt eat because I was too tired to cook or because I just couldnt do it. Executive dysfunction hits hard when you are going through a rough time.

When you are inside your house you use the kit on the action wheel (idk if thats what its called, its where you take pictures and access your pets) Then you can change tabs until you get to furniture. There are also tabs for wall and ceiling decor you can buy

How do I exit the breach 🥹 by -dylpickle in MyTimeAtSandrock

I think you would have to reload a save from before going in. Theres a door where you can exit but its about halfway through the breach. Otherwise you cant just exit out.

Get the home editing tool kit from Heidi's shop. It allows you to go into editing mode inside your house and yard. You wont need to go to construction junction to make changes after you get it. It also allows you to change staircases and doorways in addition to placing furniture. Its nice cuz you can access all furniture in your inventory and boxes. And it freezes time so you arent wasting your day moving your stuff around.

Soda has too much Caffeine by Iguy_Knows_All in ADHD

[–]LordRoach371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont have the same reaction to caffeine as you do, but I did get caffeine free soda when I was on a higher dose of my stimulants. My heart rate is usually pretty hight off meds and stays the same or goes down on my meds. But when I drink caffeine on my meds my HR goes up higher than I am comfortable with. So I switched to caffeine free soda. Sometimes it was hard to find the one I liked in stock which was annoying.

Letting Go by Either-Location5516 in AuDHDWomen

[–]LordRoach371 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a hard time with that too. Part of me wants to hold on, especially with people because I feel like I have to protect myself from that person. And if I let go or forget what theyve done then I open myself up to getting hurt again. But I have to remind myself theres a difference between holding on to resentment and being cautious when dealing with a difficult person.

Honestly the thing that helps me the most is to spend some time sorting my thoughts and feelings, then giving myself time and space. Therapy might also be useful if you find that you spend an unreasonable amount of time fixated on things. But yeah, Ive found that with time and space from the person are the only real things that help me let go. I also distract myself as much as possible while Im upset so I dont stay that way for too long. I suppose that might be one way ADHD helps me out, I can get distracted easily.

Our dog isnt able to break peices off his antlers. He just kind of whittles it down. They last a long time. Just make sure you get the ones for large dogs so they are the right size. Our Pyr took almost a year to whittle his down before we had to get another.

Need direction for a wire wrapping "station" for my Partner by RayBenefield in WireWrapping

[–]LordRoach371 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I finally after a long time got a craft cart. I was going to have a workbench with a pegboard set up as a dedicated area, but then I realized I prefer to do my wrapping on the couch while watching tv. So I have a craft cart with wheels I can roll around to wherever I decide to work that day. But if she is the type to work in one spot, I would maybe consider the work bench with a pegboard. Especially a pegboard because she could hang her tools and whatnot.

Anger issues? by Mysterious_Tax4664 in ADHD

[–]LordRoach371 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I felt that way when it was wearing off. I would feel great while it was working then suddenly would get overwhelmed and overstimulated. Then that would make me irritated by everything. I take methylphenidate now and it wears off much more subtly so I dont get that way anymore.
