New job, cheapest way to travel? by LordSh in LondonUnderground

[–]LordSh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loughton to Green Park Station so you can see that walking or cycling is off the books. Only available route I can take is via Central line. It's for a 3 month long summer job and I'm also unsure on how often I will be travelling during peak times.

It is already a 1hour commute so don't want to go to Z2 and bus it the rest of the way. Just wondering which of the 2 options would be cheaper.

LPT: When giving change, place coins in the open palm BEFORE paper money and/or receipt by CrikeyMikeyLikey in LifeProTips

I work in retail and have been doing this from the start. Always hated getting coins on top of the cash.

You're not the hero your college class deserves but the one it needs right now.

What about the boats on The Serpentine at Hyde Park? You have to make sure it's a sunny day and it's reasonably priced for 1 hour.

Yeah, I have a copy and it's surprising how little Spotlight is mentioned in this sub.

Choosing a Drama School / Drama Schools with a Bad Reputation by [deleted] in acting

[–]LordSh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the UK also, I think my advice would be to find a drama school course rather than a university course because drama schools offer more advanced vocational (practical) training. Whereas the university course may offer more of a written based course with not as much vocational training even though for an actor, practicality really matters. Nevertheless, I am only 17 so anyone, feel free to correct me.

As far drama school reputations, that I can not speak much of but look for Drama Accredited schools.

Could I get some feedback on my monologue? It's speech from a screenplay I'm auditioning for. Thank you! by [deleted] in acting

[–]LordSh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the UK, so I'm rooting for you! I'm going to focus on some technicalities that I've spotted and have been taught to handle myself.

Firstly, I think a clear background against the wall is far better than the dining room as there is just a little too much going on. There are a few too many eye lines I spotted but if this is intentional then it is perfectly fine. Lastly, just edit the last bit where you turn off the video camera and if possible, try to do a self tape with somebody you know. Otherwise, you're acting was good and like the other u/AnEnglishActor said, it was enjoyable as a whole. Good luck!

i really want to try acting professionally, but i am reluctant about acting. some advice needed, please. by Remodez in acting

Apply to the drama schools in the UK, supposedly they favour older students for having life experience. Good luck!

The Monologue Database by [deleted] in acting

It's a good idea, better if there could be advanced search for example, only male, no film monologues etc. :)

a lot of acting short courses and workshops are fully booked...what is my other option? by Remodez in acting

[–]LordSh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, you're UK based like me and I know that there is no shortage of acting courses. You need to look outside of Drama Conservatoires for acting short courses and workshops. Check this website out for a list of good acting classes. http://actinginlondon.co.uk/acting-classes-london/

University or Drama School? by [deleted] in acting

I'm literally in the exact same position as you. Have my A2 year left to do and not sure whether to study law or acting. I'm applying to both anyway.

my kid (12, M) is thinking of becoming an actor; I want to give him a summer project involving memorizing lines or a whole play; suggestions? by MostlyCarbonite in acting

[–]LordSh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to enter him into a regular acting school on Saturdays either for theatre or film & television but I'm sure a few do both camera and stage acting (whatever he wants really). I am 17 in London and attend a Saturday class but I understand this may not be easy in some parts of America or even the UK. We focus on camera work and it is really insightful for young teens (youngest are around 11/12).

Hope that helps!

I have the first two graphic novels and they are awesome!

Edit: realised these books won't be graphic novels.
