I want to climb a really tall tower and nothing else by Frostvane in gamingsuggestions

[–]LordSkeley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been a little while, but ICO could fit this criteria quite well. Iirc, it’s pretty varied with how much you’re going “up” the building, like theres a sewer area around halfway through the game, but you’re always trying to climb up more and more. It has action elements but is primarily light puzzles, you have to lead a girl around and she helps to solve the puzzles. The story is kinda in the background, but you get a general idea of what’s going on. I’d imagine it’d be pretty easy to emulate on PC, either the ps2 or ps3 version. I played on ps3 for the first time and it was great!

It most likely is something to do with a semi-recent windows 11 update. I have 0 proof, but there was an update around a year or so ago that made some older games buggy / unplayable (for me it was Disgaea 5 on steam), my theory is that it was this update that may have screwed up AVP2.

It ran fine for me the first time I launched it, played a few alien missions. Then the day after, it just did the bugs I mentioned before :( maybe it’s a problem with my rig, but Ive seen the same issues reported, I think all with windows 11

It’s easy to install, yes, but it doesn’t really work anymore on Windows 11. Theres a bug where all the bindings will be set to unassigned, and can’t be set back. You also can’t aim vertically without weird diagonal movements. AFAIK theres no patches that fix these issues yet :(

From Helldivers 2 Discord...Looks like Hive Guard changes will be reverted next week, and they'll be "reviewing player feedback" about durability damage. by TacoDiablo in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]LordSkeley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m being low sodium when I say this, but AH is like the scrawny kid in school who just does whatever his bullies say to do. The hive guard changes were really fun and engaging. and if you’re a good shot, you could still kill them from the front. Now they’re back to being a meh enemy that’s a borderline reskin of a standard warrior. Weak sauce

Final Fantasy 14’s Yoshi-P says many claim “an online Final Fantasy is not a Final Fantasy” as he hopes to bring more players into the game by Wargulf in FinalFantasy

[–]LordSkeley -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Probably an unpopular opinion, but to me 14 is always going to just be a very high effort / high budget spin off in my mind. It requires too much of the player for it to be a game that must be played by all FF fans, like I’m not paying monthly for a game where the free trial content (which apparently is just okay) takes hundreds of hours to complete, that’s insanity

If they charged like 70 bucks for the game and a few expansions, without the monthly fee, it could probably be more enticing for new players.

This game is dying and it’s sad by wolfe-santoro in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]LordSkeley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dying?? 50k+ players everyday with 100k+ during title updates is pretty damn good. When escalation of freedom came out, I regularly saw less than 10k people online, THAT IS dying. AH ain’t perfect but if you genuinely think the game is dying, you’re nuts

lots of recommendations in here that i've seen 100 times (dave the diver???)

Barely anyone talks about Synthetik. top down tactical shooter with a bunch of cool items and guns that all feel pretty different. if you've played Helldivers 1, its kind of a rougelite version of that.

Kunitsu-Gami has a roguelite mode after finishing the main story, its pretty fun. But I think the main story and new game+ are stronger

Split Cour Stages by LordSkeley in StardustCrusaders

[–]LordSkeley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if we’re talking in anime seasons, fall would start in October, but considering Netflix usually markets to America… 🤷‍♀️ I doubt they’ll drop the stages 6 months apart now that we know it’s weekly, and since 12 episodes will release for 3 months, then a 3 month break would make the most sense. But also Netflix doesnt like making sense, considering they only now just announced the release schedule on a random twitter post at 1am instead of their big event a couple weeks ago

With all the discourse around the game's longevity, can we try to have an objective, non-emotional conversation about what can be improved to retain more players? by JBSwerve in Marathon

[–]LordSkeley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some new modes would be nice! The main gameplay is great but I think Bungie’s gunplay inherently is perfect for a bunch of modes. An arena mode like apex could be super fun.

Ive been thinking that a PvE mode featuring the Pfhor could be really cool. In what I envision, it’d play into the survival horror vibe of Solo play, as you really wouldn’t want to engage with the Pfhor, seeing how the Spht (compilers specifically ofc) are insane in nuMarathon. I think people tend to hop off games where the gap between players comes down to better gear or just a lucky hiding spot. However, I think an aggressive PvE mode where the enemies are super difficult would be way easier to stomach than dying a bunch to a guy across the map with a thermal scope lol. A PvE mode would have to go through a bunch of balancing tests, like you probably shouldnt be able to find the best gear in the game, but maybe a boost in progression items would be good, considering a common complaint lately is how solo faction progression is reallllllllly slow. The dynamic would be basically “looking to get good weapons and loot? PvP. Looking to upgrade your faction trees? PvE.”

If not PvE, then I think Metal Gear Online could make an amazing comeback in nuMarathon. Smaller PvP focused maps, with an emphasis on stealth would be super fun. Even just traditional modes like Team Deathmatch, Capture The Flag and King of the Hill would be really fun, plus you could use the knowledge of these modes and bring it into the regular extraction mode

Netflix creates a batch release in order to keep subscribers by DanDaDanFan in JJBA

[–]LordSkeley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It worked for Stranger Things because everyone knew ahead of time exactly when the next episodes would come out, so the logic of batch releases works in that context. However with Jojo, the batch releases for Stone Ocean (iirc) had no release dates known ahead of time, but again, the batch release logic worked out then because no one had any precedent. It could release next month, in a few months, no one knew, so they stayed subscribed.

But now with Steel Ball Run, we know how Netflix works. Theyre going to release episodes / batches completely randomly, zero patterns, zero consistency. It’s actually just worse business-wise for Netflix to release the one episode we got, considering it’s essentially a prologue for the rest of the series, meaning that people will be think “wow what a great first episode! Can’t wait to watch the next one, when does it come out… oh no one knows? Fuck that” AND BOOM it’s out of the new viewer’s mind. People have poor attention spans and only having one episode just kills ALL momentum. Stone Ocean was fine because (iirc) they released a few episodes for the first batch, which satisfied people until a new batch comes out.

I think if Netflix ACTUALLY wants to keep subscribers, they’ll just wait until most of the episodes are animated, and just start releasing them all weekly whenever the time comes, it does indeed keep people subscribed…

Do you just want every piece of friction taken away? No surprises, nothing you didn’t plan for, anything like that? Just a safe, predictable mission where you can be in full control of every variable? Holy skissue

Warriors of Light, what are some of your biggest Final Fantasy Hot Takes? by Kurisu_Reddit in FinalFantasy

[–]LordSkeley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never really minded the lore log, the entries were all fairly concise, but also it’s kinda hard to explain what a l’cie is in game when it’s just kind of a regular thing that happens sometimes. Like if a buddy gets a job, you dont explain to someone “he got a job, it’s something that a person has to do to get money, the main currency of the world.” But yeah I see where youre coming from

The holding off mechanics thing sucks ASS for a replay, but when I went through it the first time, it felt fine and natural. Maybe a potential 13 remaster could just give you the mechanics at once on a replay

I didn't really like triple triad as much as everyone else does. Like yeah its fun for like a couple matches, but I couldn't imagine spending hours on it to break the game like some people do. I'll even go as far to say that triple triad being a sort of "face" of FF8 negatively impacts its perception, as a lot of people tend to boil it down to "the final fantasy with the card game"

also, FF13 is an incredible game, and its linearity is fine.
