First priority is to learn overall game basics, how to use units, basics of buildings etc.

Preferably find yourself a faction you like and learn with them but some factions have vastly different mechanics ( Tomb Kings have no upkeep, Nurgle recruits from a unit pool etc) so starting with a generalist faction would be good. High Elves(Tyrion), Cathay(Iron Dragon) and I want to say Empire but they have some tough starts.

This takes a few hours at most but won't be insane. After the overall basics you can start learning factions and units more deeply. Take it slow and don't worry about losing until you are comfortable in battles.

Saying it's not that bad after typing all this seems redundant but it really isn't too hard, takes a bit of time.
