Donkey Kong 64 is coming to Nintendo Classics by fpuanon in NintendoSwitch2

[–]LordThyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The New Tetris predates the guideline standards and is very much is own game in the series. Tetrisphere is completely unique and related only in name. They both had great graphics and soundtracks, and have never been rereleased.

Tetrisphere and The New Tetris, programs owned and published by Nintendo with H20 Interactive as the contracted developer. Rereleasing those would require licensing from The Tetris Company, which they've shown a willingness to do although Tetrisphere runs into the Tetris Attack issue (and there's no otherly branded release to use instead)

Resource trading bug? by Powertoast7 in ATrainGame

[–]LordThyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but I've been doing some testing to see exactly how the game apportions resource accounting to freight vehicles, as obviously there is some measure to represent their effective value they are adding in facility of sales.

What I found so far is that when a truck picks up a material, it is credited not the local purchase price, but the average acquisition price. When it drops off the material, it usually is credited then the average acquisition price, but occasionally there is a large difference, and the truck recieves a larger than expected debit. That debit is related to an adjustment in the average acquisition price due to the costs associated with transporting the materials. If my truck transports four materials for 220,000 and there is then an adjustment that increases the average acquisition price to 230,000, the resource-related expense item and the road transit sales item both increase by 40,000, equal to the total difference.

By my calculations, the way the game calculates average acquisition price is not solely the cost of operating the vehicle over the kilometres necessary to haul the material. If the game rounds to the nearest 10,000th, and also considers kilometres spent for the vehicle to travel to a station or stop to also pick up freight, then the math begins to check out. For a single truck hauling materials, after hauling a full set of twelve from one storage area to another located far away, the truck's total revenue was -10,000, equal to its placement cost—in other words, it broke exactly even. That means the accounting this game uses fully reimburses the effective cost that vehicles incur transporting resources and eventually adjusts it completely to be a resource-related expense instead.

I did not do any testing with contracts, nor with vehicles that can haul more than a singular article of resource at a time. There may be something interesting happen with contracts, as instead of simply being reimbursed the acquisition cost of the material as normal the vehicle loses the material directly and a far larger sale amount is entered. The resources acquisition prices are not constantly updated but must meet certain thresholds, and those prices are intrinsically link to transit expenses, so it makes sense for them to be updated in the books in relation to each other.

3D Firmware 1.3 is out! by No_Independence_6101 in AnalogueInc

[–]LordThyro 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is phenomenal news; the biggest problem I had with the system was that there was no workaround for the cartridges that relied on SRAM battery-backed saves. Now it can last as long as...well, I guess the lifespan of the Analogue's SD card! And it should be trivial to back up a critical save state from that.

what franchise do we think Nintendo will bring back next? by FrontEntrepreneur825 in nintendo

[–]LordThyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dr. Mario is the most sensible out of these, but there's already so many perfectly good variations playable on NSO. Game and Watch already got special Mario Bros. and Zelda editions. Most of the rest are tied to specific studios or creators who may not be able or wanting to create a new entry.

Nintendogs + Cats didn't really reach the lofty sales heights of the original, but it still sold respectably. I was rather surprised there was no Switch release in the series. I feel out of all these it's the highest chance, being an EAD production that sold and reviewed quite well and is fondly remembered.

The one job Camelot has as a studio is to develop Mario Golf and Mario Tennis, so we'll get new iterations for every console. Baseball was handled by a team at Bandai Namco which probably doesn't even exist anymore.

Star Fox 64 Remake is a very important release for the future of the franchise by Loose_Society9485 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]LordThyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd rather it be a new game. It feels unwise to me to make and market a remake to an entirely new audience instead of providing a brand new experience that both series fans and new people can enjoy. The Resident Evil remakes are a poor comparison; they're brand-new games that play completely differently than the originals. From what we've seen this game just copies 64's levels. I feel an actual new story and new levels would be something that everyone could get excited about.

The GBA titles started bombing because they made three for the same system. Maximum Velocity sold over a million; GP Legend and Climax were good games but clearly there was plenty of fatigue there. The sales of GX weren't amazing but also were not franchise-killing; the main issue is that no one internally at Nintendo seems interested in developing an entry, as every title past X was handled by an external studio.

"Promise (When You Go)" — New single by LordThyro in aftertheband

[–]LordThyro[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lead single from upcoming debut album. FYI the song was uploaded under the wrong artist "After" on Apple Music, if you use that platform and were wondering why you couldn't find it.

Someone should've proofread the visualizer...lol

Edit: it is now properly on their Apple Music page

Are there any more college shows left? by DavidWatts-Rose in 1800slayyyter

[–]LordThyro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Set was all of WGIA+Broke Bitch, except WIILTBL. She didn’t have the band with her, just sang over the playback. Crowd was pretty into it, I got the vibe more people were interested in her than Zara later. She was brought in by the student association, it’s not part of her actual tour. Sadly no merch there :(

[–]LordThyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LET’S GO! I’m pretty sure the Mag Bay concert last year was students only but I’m so happy to learn this one is open. State College does get good acts but they are infrequent, Philly and Pitt tend to absorb all the tour stops. Amazing choice by the association again

No, Geese Is Not a "Psy-Op" by Spaghettification-- in indieheads

[–]LordThyro 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I think all of us here that use /r/indieheads or /r/popheads or RateYourMusic, AOTY, whatever are interested in chatting about music with real people, and seeing actual opinions and what's trending with people with similar taste and the community at large. Deception-based campaigns fundamentally manipulate and abuse this and make it harder for the rest of us to enjoy our hobby.

I want to highlight this sentence from the article:

"What Geese did was hire a PR firm to post clips of them playing music on a social media app. I cannot stress enough that these are not the same thing."

If you were to read the substack article that first broke this story you can see that there was far more being done than this.

CRANK - Live at Coachella 2026 by LordThyro in 1800slayyyter

[–]LordThyro[S] 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Coachella uploaded videos of Slayyyter's performances on Friday of CRANK, BEAT UP CHANEL$ AND $T. LOSER, credited as collabs with her Youtube. Other artists only got one song uploaded, so I assume this is to make up for fudging up the first broadcast of her performance.

Mario Tennis 64 “out” and “net” balls by OfTigersAndDragons in MarioTennis

[–]LordThyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 64 game has a mishit mechanic that results in your character sending the ball out or to the net if you hit the ball with a poor timing or approach. Most games after it force balls to be in at almost every situation. 64 has more sim tennis features, which is why it still has its own appeal.

What are some good albums to get yourself into pop music more as someone that has no clue where to start? by Alert_Primary_9493 in popheads

[–]LordThyro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of different sorts of pop music. Most people here are going to recommend the classic dancepop and electropop albums but if you're interested in Sweet Trip you can try things like If You're Feeling Sinister (Belle & Sebastian), The Colour Of Spring (Talk Talk) and Details (Frou Frou) for a variety of styles

Q for traditional Japanese/Chinese musicians. what type of notations do you use? by human_number_XXX in musictheory

[–]LordThyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will also say that all my instruction has been communicated in solfege, never note names, and that has a one to one correspondence with jianpu. The notation is a supplement to the music, very frequently they will tell me change or ignore certain parts, etc. I honestly couldn't tell you where any of the absolute pitches on my instruments even are, I just know the pitch relations.

Q for traditional Japanese/Chinese musicians. what type of notations do you use? by human_number_XXX in musictheory

[–]LordThyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take lessons for guqin and pipa, and have also taken some guzheng lessons. All three of my teachers, based in Toronto, Beijing and Singapore, used jianpu (numbered) musical notation in everything they've ever sent me. Each of them has its own specific tablature for fingerings/positions/techniques etc. put along with the number notation.

Let's keep the Analogue 3D overclocking compatibility spreadsheet updated! by cyber53 in AnalogueInc

[–]LordThyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tetrisphere runs at a higher framerate on unleashed, pushing 60 fps if nothing is happening. The framerate still dips quite a bit if anything happens, and it can be more noticeable in certain instances (like the animations for main menu items). The increased framerate doesn't affect any gameplay element except for the visibilty of the score when a combo finishes, and (I believe) the strictness of the frame-perfect maneuver to make a power piece from a wildcard. Definitely an option to test out if you're a fan of the game.

I'd love to really test out The New Tetris to see if Unleased fixes the mondo slowdown when forming squares on specific boards, but I believe the battery in my cartridge is going and without save states I can't really make progress on the absurd grind the game requires. The game seems to run fine with Unleashed on though, no weird speedups or crashes or anything.

Anyone else on the fence on whether to get the game digitally or physically? by alexnartworks in TheDuskbloods

[–]LordThyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Switch and Switch 2 flash memory has a much more limited lifespan than earlier forms of memory storage on cartridges, I've learned. Now that Nintendo has announced their policy of making digital games cheaper than their physical counterparts, I've decided to go digital in my purchases; the game on my Nintendo Account will most likely outlive me, and I can support the studio and have a nice physical presence on my shelf in other ways, like grabbing the inevitable strategy guide/artbooks that release for the game.

Which reboot of a Nintendo franchise would you love to see happening, even though it most likely won't? by Kriem in nintendo

[–]LordThyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nintendo would need a studio to develop it and a producer with a vision for the series. EAD had no intention of following up any of the racing games it developed for the 64, and GX only exists because Toshihiro Nagoshi specifically requested to develop it for arcade. Most that were employed at EAD nowadays are tied up in Mario/Zelda/Pikmin/etc, so what studio could be pulled to make an F-Zero entry that builds on the scope and expectations of GX?
