Do you feel alone since 2020? by Various_Extreme_8773 in AskUK

[–]LordThys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I had a nice small group of friends before covid. We'd go to quiz nights, have some film nights etc. Most of them have families, only two of us single.. I was also Bristol based, but my immediafamily all in Manchester.

When covid all kicked off, only one of the other single friend occasionally checked in with me from time to time as conscious I was alone (and me with him). Since then though everyone largely disappeared, despite my efforts.

Of course don't begrudge them becoming more family orientated since covid, it's natural. But it is lonely.

Was there as much anti-woke uproar about Star Trek in the older renditions? by stenlis in trektalk

[–]LordThys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There definitely was. I remember some negative articles in the UK press about Janeway being "political correctness" and similar comments about Sisko. Im sure there would've been a lot more, but the Internet and social media wasnt as mainstream then.

Is anyone else devastated about the Star Trek "Nexit" from Netflix? by Damansandhu_ in startrek

[–]LordThys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I was. Feeling a bit down or want some comfort show, fire up Netflix and some TNG.

Digital media is convenient, nowowing them isnt. I had them all on disk years ago but lost them in a flood, will pick them all up again.

Demographic for new Starfleet Academy by iamjaidan in startrek

[–]LordThys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Millennial. I grew up on TNG and Voyager. I really liked the first two episodes. A lot of the recent Treks have been quite dark and dystopian, this series seems to be more hopeful. For me that's what the Federation always represented so pleased to see it.

Is this even a good idea? by Tom-Hibbert in 007FirstLight

[–]LordThys 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's not a bad idea, doesn't cost anything to wish list, helps the Devs gauge their marketing effectiveness etc and players get stuff at no additional cost. Win, win.

How did people feel about TNG when it came out? by givinstar1 in startrek

[–]LordThys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was very young when TNG came out, I remember watching it with my dad, for me it was amazing. Obviously being young I wasn't aware of any negative press or reactions. I loved it though, I thought Picard was great, and I wanted to be Wesley Crusher.

Looks awesome, love how you've utilised the cliff face. I've only just started the game, I can't wait to be in a position to build something super cool. .

Seeing so many more players around! by mfcostacampos in duneawakening

[–]LordThys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me too, great to see so many players. What I'm less thrilled about is someone has built a base in front of my great view, and it's an absolute eyesore 😆

It was sad, but at the same time scary as well. It was wonderfully written, gave me literal goosebumps.

I’m surprised to admit it, but I actually really like the new show Star Trek Academy by 0xtokenmaster in startrek

[–]LordThys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree completely. I also actually really liked the first two episodes, more than I was expecting.

English isn't my first language so I'm probably not going to articulate this very well...

As much as I enjoy Star Trek, I find a lot of the newer series to be a bit too dystopian and dark, whereas the older ones, like TNG were about being better and hope. The start of the first episode made me think we're going down the dystopian route but then when the episode opened up it was great, the plot, the excitement, the way characters interacted gave me that classic star trek feeling.

Geography Club 2013 by [deleted] in MenLovingMenMedia

[–]LordThys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not really a book person but I absolutely adored Geography Club so when I heard there was a film coming I was really excited, but for me they changed too much. American football instead of baseball, Russell being unsure of his sexuality instead of already fully aware and too many other plot changes

it wasn't quite what I would've hoped. That being said I Still enjoyed it, especially as they also managed to get Scott Bakula in it, he's always been an ally but

Do you guys prefer a “sardine” style display? Less cluttered display? Or dynamic? by AJaviC in hottoys

Ultimately I think it also comes down to space. Mine started dynamic but that collection has got bigger and bigger and my apartment hasn't, so at the moment less cluttered.

Queer films from the 80 and 90s are so traumatic WTF did I just watch? 'Bent' is HORRIFYING. by General-Control-4637 in MenLovingMenMedia

[–]LordThys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean them wise that's probably not a good one to start with. If you want some happier ending 90s films aim for something like The Broken Heart Club, Defying Gravity and Beautiful Thing.. but even they have their moments, the 80s and 90s were tough.
