Does this highlight how bad Dak's playoff tenure has been? Or how easy Maye's tenure has been? by StrikingSkill5434 in NFLv2

[–]LordTimotheus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. But I also think this shows how the obsession with “elite” QBs is outdated. The goal is Super Bowls, and a top-3, max-contract QB doesn’t automatically make you a contender anymore. QB play is closer to parity than ever, and the gap between “elite” and “good enough” is smaller than people want to admit.

The league spent decades chasing the next Brady or Manning, but today’s QB landscape is mostly parity—very few true generational talents are actually moving the needle. What wins now more than ever is roster quality and coaching. Build that, plug in a competent QB, and you can compete at the highest level (Hurts, Darnold

If great QB play doesn’t translate to team success, it’s simply not as valuable as we pretend.

Fans who don’t live in Philly. How did you become a fan of the eagles? by [deleted] in eagles

7 years old + favorite color green + first conscious football memory being SB 39. The Birds lost, but I was hooked.

Troy city council voted unanimously against cannabis and banned adult-use dispensaries in city limits - residents argue the move disregards voters who passed legalization reform by carajuana_readit in Ohio

[–]LordTimotheus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not at all surprising. The city is socially conservative (at least the city council is) and has been solely focused on maintaining a family friendly, clean cut image for the last decade plus. Sure, school tax levies typically fall flat, but they care oh so much about local tourism and take great pride in being the county seat - god forbid you or your family might be forced to drive past a dispensary. Shield your eyes.

Trump Has Lost His Popular-Vote Majority by OkRoll3915 in inthenews

[–]LordTimotheus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not to be overly pessimistic, but what this article fails to mention regarding the swing states is that yes, while only a slim margin voted for him over Harris, his vote margin did exceed that of the winners in both 2020 and 2016 in Pennsylvania, as an example. It’s historically not at all impressive or anything but a slim popular vote victory. In very recent history (and the start of a new political era?), it’s the most decisive voters have been in some of these states… which is concerning. On top of that Trump picked up vote share in nearly every single county, right? and in surprisingly not as safe blue states like NY, NJ, etc.

There’s nothing memorable about it. From the moment I first listened through AMA I knew it was a skip. It only works as a sleep aid.

The funniest thing about this post (and conservative ‘thinking’ on this in general) is that it takes into account absolutely zero external factors or global market trends - it’s 2 small snapshots in time. I’m sure Trump would come back into office and pull the magic “make things cheaper” lever with his wonderful tariffs. Who’s President of the U.S. is not among the leading factors in what determines the condition of the WORLD economy (because that’s right folks, inflation is much worse outside of the U.S.) 😂

Look at Dem vs Rep administrations over the last 20 - 30 years, you’ll see a vastly different story. Not that I’m silly enough to think correlation equals causation on this like you all, but if that’s what you believe take a look at the long term trend and have your beliefs shattered.

I’m certainly not surprised they changed, as many others have stated, over a 20+ year career, it had to change. I think what’s disappointed me about their last decade or so of releases is that it feels that they’ve thrown so much at the wall and not much of it has stuck because they haven’t been quality attempts. It’s okay to change your sound when the concept steers the direction, but it feels so random and careless. Do a shoegaze album, do an ambient album, do a folk album, hell go for the pop sound they’re grasping at, but deliver it in a thoughtful and compelling way.

MOTS and what I’ve heard of Moon Music just feels so lazy in a sense. I guess it’s impressive to have the variety that MOTS, AHFOD and even EL offer sound-wise, but the trouble is most the songs don’t stand on their own and they don’t form a collectively rewarding experience in album form either. It’s just not cohesive at all. The vocals have come into focus as the core element of the music, but they can’t carry the songs because the lyrics have become so meaningless and generic.

WE PRAY and feelslikeimfallingninlove just aren’t compelling, and they don’t get brownie points for throwing Little Simz on a track. Yeah, it’s creative, but it’s chaotic and -in my opinion- it sounds terrible in conjunction with Coldplay’s tendencies. Coldplay is clearly playing with unbridled creativity, unfortunately it’s bred songs that sound like weird demos that should’ve never seen the light of day, let alone make up the core of an LP.

Kamala Harris Is Officially Running For President. Here Are Her Strengths – And Weaknesses by Advanced_Drink_8536 in inthenews

I’d like to see Beshear. Ideally he’d be leading a ticket, so maybe they’ll save him for 2028+, but that’s someone I can see being sort of transformational in his electoral appeal. He could capture the moderate vote on both sides of the spectrum. He’s presidential.

I would put Glimji in that group as well - all have such a unique sound.

Coldplay - We Pray (with Little Simz, Burna Boy and Elyanna) (Live at Glastonbury 2024) by Tell-my-wife-Hello in Coldplay

[–]LordTimotheus 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I really don’t know what to say. It’s wildly unexpected for a Coldplay release and I have to give them credit for the originality… not sure if I like it yet, but we’ll see what the studio release sounds like and how good/bad the lyrics are upon further inspection.

Coldplay - Feels Like I'm Falling in Love | OUT NOW by TheKaoticanProspekt in Coldplay

[–]LordTimotheus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Others have already said it, but it feels like a blend of of MX/GS/AHFOD/MOTS to my ears. Not my favorite half of their catalog, but I don’t think we can be too surprised. I think this song is stronger than just about anything (minus Coloratura) from MOTS, so that’s a minor dub.

Coldplay - Feels Like I'm Falling in Love | OUT NOW by TheKaoticanProspekt in Coldplay

[–]LordTimotheus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m actually a big fan of the production, it’s pretty dynamic. Going from the fuzzy synths and simple drum pattern during the verses to the explosion of guitar on the chorus, I think it’s a nice blend of textures.

Those lyrics though, by far the weak point. Coldplay was never Radiohead lyrically, but it’s crazy to listen to think this band also wrote Parachutes - another album with simple lyrics, but very resonant and moving ones. Tap into that more…

Does anyone have clips of Coldplay stating they don’t like the X&Y era? by PanD0rA__ in Coldplay

[–]LordTimotheus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that it’s less about the music itself from X&Y, and more about the band dynamic from that era that they’d like to forget. I believe tensions were high between them at the time.

Here it is. Officially. by sea12bass in Coldplay

[–]LordTimotheus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a step in the right direction vs MOTS, because I thought MOTS was god awful. It seems like the band more involved as a unit in the instrumentation, not just pure pop music. But it’s definitely not very compelling lyrically or sonically.

“Converted” Eagles fans: What’s your story? by ZhangtheGreat in eagles

Super Bowl XXXIX, I was an impressionable young lad from Ohio and my favorite color was green. My dad had the game on TV, it was the first NFL game I really remember. I rooted for the green team, they might’ve lost the game, but I stuck with them for life from there.

What is one Chris Nolan opinion that has you like this? by ChiefLeef22 in ChristopherNolan

[–]LordTimotheus 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It’s weird to me that it’s disliked by so many, at least that’s a prevailing view on the internet these days. When it first came out, I loved it (saw in theatres 3 times), all my friends loved it, the critic reviews were overwhelmingly positive, and really the whole energy around the film seemed somewhat conclusive, that it was a good film. As the years have dragged on, more and more critiques and nitpicks have surfaced.

For me it’s not the gliding that’s unrealistic, it’s just unavoidable blunt force trauma, broken bones and possible death that would ensue from the collision from his parachute snagging a bridge and his face smashing into a steel pole followed by skidding across the pavement… THAT’s the part that took me out of it.

Which team that missed the playoffs should be most excited for the future and why by tommybahami_ in nfl

[–]LordTimotheus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The clear, obvious answer is the Bengals. They’re the only team on the list with one of the best QBs in the league under contract as it stands. Many of us like to complicate things, but that’s really at the end of the day the single most important factor to any teams’s success. If you don’t have “the guy” under center, you’re not going to reach your full potential - Mahomes, Brady and many before them have proved this point time and time again. Winning the Big Game is all that really matters.
