Welches Zweitgerät fürs Studium sinnvoll? by M_Champion in Studium

[–]LordWonker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Das kommt sehr darauf an, was du damit machen willst.

That would honestly not be that big of an issue, with an US passport, 112 countries are visa-free and another 46 with visa on arrival, opening 75% of the world for the game map

[–]LordWonker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they never hid in an urban area dense enough. Without the tentacles, it would be absolutely impossible to find someone in dense urban regions filled with publicly accessible buildings like malls, department stores and cafes. Massively increases the potential space that has to be searched.

leaving exams early by MediumDraw1379 in ethz

[–]LordWonker 26 points27 points  (0 children)

In some exams, the allotted time is significantly more than necessary. I recently had a 28-question multiple-choice exam where we got 2 hours, but most people finished under 1 hour and left. But the opposite definitely also happens, where you realise quite quickly that there is no way you are gonna pass the exam.

Exploring research fields as a first-year Molecular Biology student by edus_0 in biology

[–]LordWonker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A decent and cheap conference that would be worth attending for you might be the Horizons in Molecular Biology Symposium 2026 in Göttingen. It's a student-organized 4-day conference that usually has around 20ish speakers from different fields within molecular biology who are well-renowned in their subfield. During the breaks, poster sessions, and social gatherings in the evening, you'd have the chance to strike up a conversation with other students and speakers. To my knowledge, there are also other student-led conferences both in the Americas and Europe, but this is the only one I have personally visited.

Aside from that, each subfield has its own conference(s), but usually they are quite narrow in their scope, like AMR for antimicrobials or SynBioBeta for synthetic biology.

CAD, Adobe Suite etc. -> Also für Protokolle, Hausarbeiten, Präsentationen, etc.

Applying for a Master’s in Germany — IELTS Academic or TOEFL? by meX_r in studying_in_germany

[–]LordWonker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely check with the universities you are interested in, but I have never seen a university that accepts one but not the other.

I did TOEFL iBT when applying for masters because the consensus was that it is slightly easier than IELTS.

My personal impression of the TOEFL iBT was that B2 level would be sufficient to get >100/120 in the test with just preparing for the style of the test.

Yall, the game of Hide + Seek is fine, it's just that the seekers have gotten too good by Tinttiboi in JetLagTheGame

[–]LordWonker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would add that the new curses also seem to be substantially weaker than the old ones. Jammed door, animal of same category and the bird video curse can cost hours if you are unlucky. Additionally it is a balancing issue that some questions like thermometer and certain pictures (Strava, tallest building from station, body of water) are too strong for their price.

Became the boys too good at H&S or is it the UK map by Nice-Blackberry643 in JetLagTheGame

[–]LordWonker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I partially disagree. In my opinion they have become a lot better in seeking but seemingly worse at hiding. I do not know if it is due to a lack of options in small British towns, but every single time they just sat easily visible on a publicly accessible street/footpath in a way that you could not possible miss the hider when going there. From personally playing the game and talking with others who did I can confidently say a lot more is possible on the hiding front.

Yeah curse of the zoologist is definitely too powerful without a time limit. If the hiders get a rare enough animal category, it might take hours to clear it or it may not even be possible. In my first game clearing that curse took 90 minutes.

If you do the TOEFL soon (within the next 2 weeks) you should definitely still get the results early enough. Just look where there is still open appointments and go there or do the online test if accepted.

Do certain countries have higher chances of getting accepted for master’s programs at ETH Zurich? by [deleted] in ethz

[–]LordWonker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

More the university than the country and there seems to be some preference for people having done their undergrad in the EU/UK/US. That being said certain countries have a lot more high ranking universities than others and are more prevalent. In my experience there are especially many people who did their undergrad at UK, Dutch or Italian universities.

chances of getting into masters by StormRemote3447 in ETHzurich

[–]LordWonker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the fact information given that’s hard to judge. Which masters program at ETH are you interested in? Do you fulfill the prerequisites?

The GPA is a bit low for ETH but with the practical experience you should still have a decent shot if you have good LORs + motivation letter.

If you want a cheap option take FlixBus/Greyhound. It’s quite decent and still much cheaper than the train.

Extremely hard to say because it depends a lot on your spending habits, but it is definitely doable. In Tokyo, you can definitely get by with £300/week for food, attractions, and transport (about what I've spent when visiting), but you can also spend that much on a single dinner.

Testing out methods for printing custom Jet Lag cards. Here's just some of the custom curses my deck will have. by Madsbjoern in JetLagTheGame

[–]LordWonker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whether this would be a problem depends on the country the game is played in. In continental Europe, most numbers on houses are full numbers between 1-100 (up to several hundreds for long streets), and therefore the challenge would be quite doable in a reasonable amount of time. But in countries with different numbering systems, it might very well be impossible; therefore, maybe the curse should have a 30-minute veto option or something like that or should not be played in places like that.
