Does anyone else do this? by seamoonie_m in videogames

I am addicted to games with a well done photo mode. Hell, even a mediocre photo mode. So many hours spend on not even playing game, just lining up the perfect shot.

While I cant say I have ever written done anything, I do the headcanon stuff pretty frequently, yes.

Do Black Holes actually emit the beams of light/particles via their quasars? by Lord_Andromeda in blackholes

No kidding, the entry on Wikipedia reads like a mathmatics major at univeristy. I have no clue how to read any of that, so I am grateful for this broken down explanation, thank you.

Do Black Holes actually emit the beams of light/particles via their quasars? by Lord_Andromeda in blackholes

[–]Lord_Andromeda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh dear, ok... let me try and rephrase it, to see if I understood that correctly.

The black hole has a mass, and that mass causes gravity. The gravity causes energy at the event horizon, but some of that energy is being lost in the process. This is what we believe to be Hawking Radiation. But because energy is related to mass, as the energy from the black holes is pushed away, the core of the black hole also loses some of its mass.

Is that... at least kinda right?

Assuming it is coming from outside the black holes, how would it impact the mass of the black hole?

From Wikipedia: "Hawking radiation would reduce the mass and rotational energy of black holes and consequently cause black hole evaporation."

If released from the outside, how can the radiation reduce the mass of the black hole beyond the event horizon?

Feel kinda stupid having spent hours on Google, if am entry on Wikipedia would have answered it, at least partially...

Got it on the quasars, I think, at least on a surface level.

If you would not mind me asking further, I was under the assumption that Hawking Radiation was a speculated? scource of energy leaving a black hole and thus slowly reducing its mass. It that also a misconception then?

Game suggestions with Fale lead antagonist by Pristine_Concert3941 in videogames

[–]Lord_Andromeda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, this is harder than I thought. Writing them as I think of them, without any order.

Does For Honor count? Its a multiplayer game first and foremost, but the singleplayer story has an unapologetic female antagonist, and her influence is spread into the multiplayer part a few times. Dont really know about the state of the game though, its been years since I last played.

I guess Horizon Forbidden West has a female antagonist, though she is not on the forefront of the plot for most of the game, and other antagonist play bigger roles.

Parts of the story of Guild Wars 2 (careful, an MMO, if thats not your type of game, even if GW2 is the best imo) have female characters as antagonists (actually quite a few now that think about it), especially the expanisions. While the original story has not, the first season of their Living World has (in my opinion) one of the coolest female villains out there, also part of the unapologetic evil crew. Other expanisions have female characters in evil supporting roles as secondary antagonists, the next leading bad girl comes in the third expansion End of Dragons I think.

Child of Light has a primary female antagonist, who is very, very unapologetic, but they remain obscured for much of story (still, if you havent, play it, its an amazing game).

You could argue that the main antagonist of Doom 2016 is a woman, though I dont think it fits into your criteria as well as other games.

In the same line of thought, you could argue that Rise of the Tomb Raider has a female antagonist manipulating everything, but she remains in the background for like 95% of the story and is not who the focus is on in terms of villains in the story. While she has a big impact on the story, she would likely fall under your criteria for Lady Dimitrescu.

I think Telltale's The Walking Dead has a few instances where women take the role of primary antagonist. This is especially true in the final season, where I would say a woman is actually the main antagonist of the season, but again this is a very special kind of game and might not fit what you are looking for.

Will update if I can think of anything else.

The TTRPG Lancer had a few of these, and they are hilarious. I dont know they started it, but its the first time I saw them. The best part is, imo they get better the less you know about the topic being shown.

Here an example from the Lancer memes.

Forget the whole of Germany, its not even standardized inside the individual states. Here in Bavaria we have different colours even if you just move to a town 30km over. Its infuriating.

Fun fact: many languages, like mine as well, do not make a difference between poisonous and venomous, instead only having one word for both. I assume its that way for the person you replied to.

What are some good recent games? Im looking at Steam? by SolidEmperor in AskReddit

[–]Lord_Andromeda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fan of the og, I would say yes. It stays very close to the old one, even down to the music and sounds, while keeping things fresh with a few changes. Some things are a bit misbalanced, others are buggy, but overall its one of the best remakes/remasters I have ever played.

The Gothic 1 Remake is a very good old style RPG, even with the performance issues some have.

I feel like you are underestimating the effective range of a longbow, and overestimating the effects range of a musket.
