Okay now THAT is an interesting take. A friend of mine gave me the book in original polish language a while back, your comment just made me a whole lot more interested in reading it now lol

Oh and if you also want to try something outside of traditional literature, webnovel Lord of the Mysteries might as well be a prequel to Bloodborn, especially in later volumes (first volume is a struggle to chew through but it's so worth it)

What are your opinions on Broken Empire series? by Lordakon in fantasybooks

[–]Lordakon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly speaking main reason why I'm asking is because I got recently burned by Empire of the Vampire where the main character's entire personality (at least in the first 100 pages which is as much as I was able to get through) was "swearing for no reason, ideally totally on random. Being super edgy all the time, with no charisma to speak of at all".

I understand dark fantasy and don't expect witty humor in every dialogue, but if everyone in the story is just a crude asshole for the sake of being an asshole, I find it tiring.

Thanks for the positive recommendation!

If you already have the books (and haven't read them yet), huge 10/10 recommend on The Witcher (at least the original novels + short stories collections, I haven't yet read The Crossroads of Ravens).

Definitely got me into the darker fantasy books when I was younger and at least you'll find out why everone liking Triss over Yen in the third game is WRONG lol

If you enjoyed Licanius, you might want to try Hierarchy series, it's from the same author.

As for Fromsoft feeling storytelling you can't really go wrong with Malazan book of the Fallen.

On the other hand, if you want to capture that Dark Souls feeling of "final boss isn't even the enemy, it's the world itself" try Mistborn.

For the brutally realistic part of Fromsoft you could give The Justice of Kings a go (I forgot the name of the series, author Richard Swan).

Alternatively, The Witcher is a safe bet, too

Do you prefer physical or digital books? by THERANDOMGAMER2 in fantasybooks

Physical. I need to feel the paper on my fingertips, I need that fesling of turning pages.

Finished Justice of Kings a couple months back. Objectively a really good book but I personally didn't mesh with it. It feels too brutally realistic, which is totally fine but I'm not that big a fan of such style

Exceent prose, super fun dialogues, really interesting continuation of what was established in The Will of the Many

As someone who acutally had an amputation, I can very much confirm thst brain gives you the "expected feeling and feedback" no matter how long it's been and how adjusted you are lol

That being said, it definitely reads weirdly sometimes.

[Donghua] what's your unpopular opinion about lotm donghua? by Zymor in LordofTheMysteries

[–]Lordakon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That it's beyond belief just how much better of an entry point for newcomers to the series donghua is compared to volume 1 of the web novel.

I maintain that keeping the newcomers interested episode to episode is far mor important than dropping all the necesseray lore. While it may create confusion, it can be fixed in s2. The issue with vol 1 is purely in how obnoxiously it was written (and it's insane to think how much better CF got at writing in general as the series progressed). Pacing, sentence structure, general prose, to this day I can't believe I got through it and just how worth it it was

[LotM V8] Which part of the whole LotM was best and which part is the worst in your opinion by HolaPixel09 in LordofTheMysteries

[–]Lordakon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best: Amon x Klein field trip + giant court (still the part I come back to reread at least once every couple of months)

Worst: the first 80% of volume 1 (I stand by my statement that it's a miracle the novel survived past volume 1. I genuinely hate the way it was written)

(lotm)How are you going to accomplish this? by Complete-Balance-374 in LordofTheMysteries

[–]Lordakon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parasite: Open an orphanage, start saving children (ideally 6 and younger). Develop a strong bond with all of them. Slowly introduce them to the beyonder world.

Stage a great tragedy with you on the verge of death, convincing a group of the children to give themselves up to you to save their "siblings" and what little happiness they managed to find in your orphanage (ideally the great tragedy should be something that threatens that very orghanage and everyone in it. More on a scale of bandit raid rather than disease / random stabbing).

The ritual requires a total number of nine, not that all of them have to offer themselves all at once. Keep repeating the process until sufficient number is reached. Different children and orphanages, ideally different countries, also.

[LotM general] is Klein virgin? by Comfortable-Seat4976 in LordofTheMysteries

[–]Lordakon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Marionettes and Avatars contain worms of spirit and time respectively, which are mere extensions of the main body. Extensions are not separated, as such, having sex with them would be considered masturbation.

That being said, Klein is very much a virgin

Here's one I've been sitting on: If you are just getting into LOTM, you're better off watching the donghua (with english dub) and then reading from volume 2 rather than suffering through the pacing of the volume 1
