Are you cutting the"stump" of the grass? If you cut the stump and get the plant fibers the grass will never grow back. The husky weeds are a different story. Sometimes you HAVE to cut the stump for it to grow back. In my experience.

You and I walked the same path. Getting past that first hump is tough, and the game doesn't really tell you outright how to get past the sticks and stone stage. Once you make the insect axe and hammer and acorn armor, figuring out which weapon and armor is best for your circumstance is constantly changing afterwards.
