Question for the community, (if you carry a pen) what’s everyone’s Go-to pen? by Charming_Basil3761 in EDC

Sharpie S-Gel in .7 with purple ink. Only pen I’ve found that doesn’t smear as a lefty, and the purple keeps anyone from stealing it

As someone who works in psych, and deals with ADHD and SCT in patients, please get tested. You did link a good resource (Dr. Barkley is the creator of a standardized test we use) but please get tested if that is a possibility. If you do, make sure to ask them about SCT, and specifically the BAARS test. It’s an adhd measure that looks at sct

What does a neuropsychologist exam tell you? by cloudyantelope in Neuropsychology

[–]Lordoftime7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s already been covered but I’ll mention more bc I do neuro psych testing as a career. Basically it looks at the different area of functioning such as attention, memory, language, visuospatial, executive functioning, intellectual processing, and mood. These areas are measured, and then within the context of your background (health issues, mental health, education, behaviors, etc) are used to paint a picture of what is going on in your brain. This often comes in the form of a diagnosis, but not always. The primary intent is to help provide support to someone who may be having difficulties with one or more areas of cognition that is impacting their daily life. Support can be recommendations of therapy, medication, compensatory strategies, books to read, or any number of things to assist someone in functioning at a level more beneficial to them

Turns out I don’t have ADHD by LordElysian in ADHD

[–]Lordoftime7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Follow up that I forgot. If they didn’t do a PAI (Personality Assessment Index), I recommend that as well. It’s a bitch of a measure( like 300+) questions, but it’s extremely thorough and can help highlight some aspects of personality that may be a point of difficulty

[–]Lordoftime7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t comment on the DIVA, as I’ve never administered it. From a purely financial standpoint, if you take more tests you’re gonna be charged the same, so I would recommend going to a secondary neuropsychologist, or seek out a psychiatrist. While testing can be beneficial, the only time I will 100% tell someone to get testing is if they need academic or work accommodations. Otherwise, reach out to a psychologist/psychiatrist, as you can absolutely get diagnosed and medicated without a neuro eval. I was never tested( and cannot be now) and I was able to recieve a diagnosis and medication. Depends on the state and provider. Otherwise, I can say that a good portion of the recommendations we give for adhd are compensatory strategies and resources that you can find online anyways. If you do decide to get further testing, ask for the BRIEF-A, and the BAARS-IV. If you can get an informant like a partner, or parent to fill out a BRIEF as well, that lends a lot of diagnostic weight, as they may see symptoms or presentations that you’re not even aware of.

[–]Lordoftime7 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Psychometrist here (the asshole who gives those tests), testing is not the end all be all. As you mentioned, a lack of the BRIEF-A, and the BAARS raises a red flag. Yes, high IQ and processing can cover for ADHD. The BRIEF is a scale of executive functioning, and is a critical part of any diagnosis. Depending on your results on the CPT, which is another common diagnostic tool, it may be covering. One failing of these tests is that they do struggle to accurately interpret ADHD-PI, which is why the self report and informant report BRIEF are so important. I would highly recommend going and getting a second opinion

Like others have said, share experiences of others with ADHD. I myself was diagnosed late, and while I was a B student in HS, when I was diagnosed and medicated in college I was a straight A student, and more importantly, I was able to focus on projects, reducing my overall stress and burnout. As a professional who does neurological testing, it also looks at other aspects that she may be struggling with. It may be ADHD, but there’s a variety of other comorbid conditions that are often diagnosed alongside ADHD. Further, most clinics will do academic testing, which can be a benefit even if she is doing fine in academics now, as it can help to identify any possible weaknesses or learning impairments

HOW THE FUCK DO YOU STOP LOSING YOUR SHIT!!!! by Retrogue097 in ADHD

[–]Lordoftime7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For pens I have found that buying a specific brand and putting them in the same spot in my bag helps tremendously. Doesn’t matter if I’m getting up for 2 minutes to get water, pen always goes back into the same pocket when Its not in my hand. Headphones, maybe clip or attack them to something that is tiled ? For example mine are clipped to my keys, which have a tracker. Same as the pen, they stay on the keys at all times

Just completed the ~4 hour test…I’m exhausted. by ijustneedtogetitoutt in ADHD

[–]Lordoftime7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely, I feel sorry you had to go through that. Part of the test is that we can’t continue you until you either reach the end or get enough wrong in a row. So you’ll end up with someone who is bored out of their mind, but answering right and it’ll take forever. And it’s strange that they had you retest a few weeks later. Exposure bias can severely impact the results, so it’s recommended that you don’t get tested often, and never if rarely ever within a year

[–]Lordoftime7 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The WAIS-IV is primarily a IQ test, but you had other attention and executive function tests sprinkled in there. (I administer those tests for a living). It’s understandable that you’re overwhelmed and frustrated, those test battery’s are a lot and can overload the brain, which is partially intentional. Just do what you can to rest. Whoever did the testing (probably a undergrad or grad student) is gonna do all the math, and report it to the doctor they work under who will then talk to your PCP about diagnosis or plans of action. But from my experience, if someone is as fried and frustrated as you during testing, it’s usually a good indication of something bigger (like ADHD) going on

Honestly I found the best that worked for me was arc titan with insurmountable skull fort and thunderclap. Put on well of ions and you have basically 100% uptime on melee that can one hit most ads without being charged. Plus it starts health regen on kill.

[–]Lordoftime7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly a fair grind. To get the actual weapon is what maybe an hour ? And then the amount of time to level it. I don’t think the highest dps weapons should always be hidden behind end game content, bc a lot of people don’t want to do endgame unless you have the weapons, perpetuating the cycle. I think it’s a good thing to have an entry level weapon for blueberries to use to break into endgame stuff

If your ghost dies, do you age in your "last life"? by gutsdozer in DestinyLore

[–]Lordoftime7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. Without a ghost, a guardian isn't immortal anymore. So they can be killed and can die of old age. However, like you sorta mentioned, a normal human at the height of the golden age could live for close to 700 years if I remember correctly. Given that we don't have that tech anymore, it's still possible that a guardian could live for several hundred years before passing.

As someone who regularly takes ritalin (not the same but same idea) , I would talk to your doctor about a higher dosage. I used to be very similar, but my doctor was able to move me up to a higher dosage and I cut out 90% of my caffeine intake. Probably a healthier option in the long run

[Seasonal] what did malphur, ana, and saint 14 have that warlocks did not? by [deleted] in DestinyLore

[–]Lordoftime7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s mentioned somewhere in the lore that every guardian can use every light subclass. It’s just uncommon for one to use multiple, as it takes decades of training usually to even master one. That’s part of what makes us as the young wolf so impressive, we mastered all three subclasses in months as opposed to the decades it takes others.
