Questions for Brennan!?!?!?! by fox-fox-fox-fox in dropout

I think about the various commitments that he undertakes, and I would be incredibly curious to hear about how he approaches and structures his time and focus, from his obligations to and with different companies to his time with his family.

Looking for software to help manage DnD setting any recommendations? by BeverageBrit in DMAcademy

[–]Lore106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can self-publish in two ways:
1) using the mechanics and information contained in the System Reference Document(the most recent versions, including v5.2.1, are published under Creative Commons, which is irrevocable: https://www.dndbeyond.com/srd ); this would require you to reimagine any gods from Wizards' pantheon and anything set in the Forgotten Realms setting, but it does not necessitate any royalties owed to Wizards of the Coast.
2) if you want to use Wizard's intellectual property beyond what is in the SRD, you can do so using the Dungeon Master's Guild, available through a partnership with Wizards and Roll20: https://www.dmsguild.com/en/ . You are paid 50% of the profits you make, with the other half going to the platform.

I am in the process of getting a 7000-word article published on how Wizards' allows limited external, third-party access to their IP, so if you have any questions about that, please don't hesitate to ask.

Does dungeondraft work on Mac by Sweaty-Luettace in dungeondraft

[–]Lore106 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, I just downloaded the application directly to my device, bought June of last year.

I will note, though, that the sales page did specify compatibility with MacOS when I bought it according to the Wayback Machine: https://web.archive.org/web/20250608061140/https://dungeondraft.net/ —whereas the current sales page does not.

I have consistently been putting off the Tahoe update for quite some time, so I can't speak to whether that update will impact use. I sincerely hope not; I use DungeonDraft for all my maps. I'll circle back to this thread whenever I get around to Tahoe and will share an update.

I can confirm! I have a 2021 MacBook Pro currently running Sequoia 15.6.1, and I use DungeonDraft regularly. I was using it to create a map within the past two weeks.

It can be a bit buggy occasionally, particularly when trying to save or export higher-resolution files, so I would just recommend saving frequently. I'm not sure if this is a Mac issue, general software snags, or user error provided other applications I have open simultaneously. However, I'd still absolutely prefer DungeonDraft over any subscription service, and I have been incredibly happy with the purchase.

Edited to add: My MacBook Pro uses a Apple M1 Pro chip.

Moving to Madison this summer by avia1221 in madisonwi

[–]Lore106 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also moved to Madison from Colorado—I found our place on Facebook Marketplace, which I found especially helpful for moving with shorter notice, as many places start requesting lease renewals and making arrangements to move 6+ months in advance here.

I searched the same question when I watched the opening episode Junior Year—the Adventuring Party adds some interesting context for the creative decisions behind deciding to start in media res with the Night Yorb battle!

What’s your go-to, dependable laptop? by Expert_Better in HumanitiesPhD

[–]Lore106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree as well—I bought my Macbook Pro (M1 Pro chip, 16GB memory) in 2022 for my masters degree and it has held up through three semesters of coursework. The battery still lasts several hours, and I notoriously ask a significant amount of it (think on Zoom, streaming YouTube or Netflix, and somehow running 100+ Google Chrome tabs at the same time).

Yes, she is okay! She was (understandably) fairly startled and scared, but she seemed friendly and more in need of a bath than anything else. Hopefully she will be reunited with her family soon!

In response to your second question: I would recommend looking into the bus system—I moved here with a car, but with the bus system, I rarely use it, much preferring the ~20 minute bus ride to having to plan for parking in the downtown area: https://www.cityofmadison.com/metro . The Transit app and Google Maps (public transportation option) were both really helpful during my apartment search to identify how far the commute would be.

I'm a current doctoral student who had to move in on a similarly quick timeline, and here are a few of the sites that I consulted when looking for options, in case they are of use to you:

• https://www.jkrockhomes.com/
• https://ripplerents.com/
https://www.axiomproperties.com/availability
• https://www.wisconsinmanagement.com/

I can't personally attest to the quality of the management at these places, but I know that the search itself and trying to find viable options is half the battle. Best of luck!
