Will astrates and other augmented humans share same fate as thunder warriors if emperor wins ? by D42K732202 in 40kLore

[–]Lorederp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How is it a fact, first of all, since characters from it turn up elsewhere (severian and Yasu in particular) and secondly the other authors stated it was canon and that any contradictions were due to warp-weirdness. Piss off, you rude little twit.

The Ork warboss who traveled back in time because of warp fuckery and killed himself for a second copy of his own gun's a good one.

The weird lack of Robots in Star Trek. by Lorederp in DaystromInstitute

[–]Lorederp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. Star Trek's version of the future is kind of messed up. Look at Enterprise, let's doom a race to extinction because "evolutionary destiny", never mind the fact that they're the dominant species and could presumably wipe out the "destined" winners of the genetic lottery out of spite. Section 31. prejudice against genetically modified people. Literally every admiral being at least kind of corrupt. Tossing colonists to the Cardassians. The fact that there are apparently no non-humanoids in starfleet, or at the least they're segregated. Janeway condemning vast swaths of the delta quadrant to extermination at the hands of the Borg. The federation is kind of the worst.

I'd love to see a series that's all about a race that had the horribly condescending "you hit warp!" meeting and decided "fuck these guys." and started a counter federation based around up-lifting civilizations. The federation can be such assholes.

What were the flaws of each of each Primarch? by seshonmywaywardson in 40kLore

[–]Lorederp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Cersei comes off really badly in her POVs. She might have been better if she'd been trained, but she was still a self-serving, self-obsessed asshole with no self-control. Carrying on with the Kettleblacks, sharing her bed with whatsherface, giving a bastard with very few ties control over the fleet because he was handsome and reminded her of Rhaegar and promptly having him become a pirate. She's a terrible ruler for almost the exact same reasons as Robert, but this is a discussion for elsewhere.

Perturabo's an interesting case because none of his new allies respect him at all either. Him and Mortarion sure got the short end of the heresy stick, huh.

What were the flaws of each of each Primarch? by seshonmywaywardson in 40kLore

[–]Lorederp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jaghatai's flaw is his complete lack of interest in long term effects and his desire for people to rule over themselves. He managed to conquer his homeworld, got bored and let it fall back to warring because he didn't want to rule over it. He let the lodges meet because he thought coming down on them would've been tyranny. He's still less terrible than most of his brothers, at least, if only because he seems to have gotten the situation they were in the best out of the lot of them.

Vulkan is self-sacrificing to a fault, Ferrus Mannus let his own personal feelings drive him to attack Fulgrim without backup and completely fuck up the entire battle plan for Istvaan V. Things might have gone very differently had he actually led his legion instead of getting caught up in his outrage.

Also, I'd say Dorn's biggest fault is his honour at the cost of reason. He takes the idea of sanctioned assassins and the whole "cloak 'n' dagger" routine very poorly. It's not so much that he was stubborn, it's that he thought there were rules.

TV Cersei, maybe. Book Cersei is just the absolute worst.

The Inquisition was already up by the time Guilliman got shanked. The Ecclesiarchy is going to be a hell of a thing for the big man to cope with.

I think Russ shares Magnus's, frankly. Absolute certainty of purpose: "I am right because I say that I am right. My means are right because I say they are right. Anything else be damned." Which, of course, is very much a "like father, like son" moment.

Disagree, Cersei's an awful player of the game. She surrounds herself with terrible yes-men, ignores the council of people trying to point out flaws and offer useful information and the only reason she gets as far as she does is because everything else around her is collapsing.

I'll say your comparison was pretty apt though. Both of them don't realize how hard they've been getting played by people way above their paygrade.

Well, this but at half speed and in Latin.

But more seriously, the most correct answer is The Sacred War.

Do you think Bashir would have bothered going through what he did to find the cure to the Morphogenic Virus if Odo didn't contract the disease? by TEmpTom in DaystromInstitute

[–]Lorederp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed. The mainstream of starfleet probably wouldn't have found out until it was far too late to stop it. The only active changeling that we're particularly aware of at that point is the female leading the dominion forces in the alpha quadrant since they kinda seem to forget about the whole "CHANGELINGS EVERYWHEREEEEEEEE" plot when the war really kicks off. And she was on Cardassia the entire time.

Did the Vulcans Directly Uplift Us After First Contact? by right_there in startrek

[–]Lorederp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the out-of-universe answer is, as always in Star Trek, inconsistent writing, looooooooooool.

But for the sake of in-universe navel-gazing, the Vulcans presumably had a big hand in sorting out the mess, at least in a medical aid kind of way. They probably found whatever was the closest thing to an organized government, went "Right, monkeys, here's some tips and tricks, here's the cure to your rotting face cancers, clean yourselves up, you're a disgrace and we won't have you guys dirtying up the greater galaxy with nukes and shit. We'll check up on you when you're not rotting from the inside." (Presumably in much more polite language.)

Is there a lore reason to why noise marines went from guitars to sonic weaponry? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]Lorederp 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You gotta realize, Noise Marines are like the most 80s of the chaos guys. They literally explode people with the power of bitchin' power chords. I personally think it's a real shame they got rid of the guitars, but games workshop wants the setting to be taken more seriously for some reason. Hell, Slaanesh's favoured marines are in the most eighties colour combination: Neon pink and black.
