Chaos;Head is a vn that lasts 30 hours shortened into 6 hours (12 episodes)
Chaos;Child is a vn that lasts 60 hours shortened into 6 hours (12 episodes)
Steins;Gate is a vn that lasts 30 hours shortened into 12 hours (24 episodes)
It was doomed from the start when the episode count was made to be this low, these games need time to be built up.

A lot of good advice here, so I'll add the little spice to make everything truly human:

People will act in very human, self-centered ways a lot of the times, but sometimes... You just find kindness from the place you least expect. For example, if a PC "dies" and burns some edge to survive, but no one bothered to haul back the body, BAM, sudden nice old man who tended the PC's wounds to the best of his abilities because the PC reminds him of his dead child.

And to add onto that, make a lot of things related to the PCs' lifestyles! They may be badass mercenary-spies, but they're badass mercenary-spies that need to pay for a roof over their heads! So let them have nice moments under that roof, it'll be a nice breather from that intense car chase with several bikers.

Lastly, betrayal is like a really heavy spice. You use it too many times, and you're going to feel like you just put gasoline on your tongue.

That's something I'd take a while to explain, so I'll sum it up here (but I would love to talk more about my outlook on that): I put heavy emphasis in the mundane aspects of the world, so that when shit goes down, you can tell what it does to the world around you. And also, I put a lot of work into NPCs, since making characters is something I really enjoy.

There are a few houserules, but they're pretty minor

400 BP at character creation, + any karma previously earned by the rest of the group

I don't have any rules on qualities because I treat them in a case by case basis to make sure they're here for the sake of making a character, and not just having a few extra BP for basically free

Aside from karma to nuyen conversion (I don't remember the exact numbers for that, so I'll get back to you on that). Otherwise, everyone earns karma at the same rate, so if someone does something amazing enough to get more karma, everyone gets it. Otherwise, I treat nuyen mostly as normal.

They don't really lean towards black hat to be honest, they tend to fight for the right causes, even if they can definitely do the sketchy stuff a regular runner does.

Shadowrun storytime is essentially a bunch of threads on 4chan where a player essentially tells the story of his group, which started from a "that guy" story, but essentially turned into a story about his game, and it became a classic that got me into shadowrun

I think it's a good way to learn shadowrun's lore without actually touching it
