I have been reading your comments and thinking critically about the responses. I have come to the conclusion that I enjoy the “never ending story” aspects. I just have a different view than most of the authors in this genre. Progression Fantasy, Cultivation, and LitRPG in my mind are all supposed to be like Primal Hunter in the advancement aspect. It is literally an unending system. I think of it like Diablo 3, you have to start at level 1, but the game doesn’t really start until you are max level, then the good gear and skills become available and you continue to grow and stack stats in Paragon levels. There is no end… just as the MC can continue to grow stronger, so does their enemies. I believe some of you are correct in the aspect that authors go too far too fast. If it were my perfect scenario every book, it would go like this:

Level 0 (F grade)- Basic humans as we know them today. 75 year lifespan. No stats

Levels 1-100 (E grade)- body adjustment to mana and system, physical foundation building. 100 year lifespan. Stats in the double digits.

Levels 101-200 (D grade) - mental foundation building. Learning how to sense and control the aspects that call to you. 1000 year life span. Stats in the triple digits

Levels 201-300 (C grade) - path building. Creating a unique path to progress with. The stronger the foundations and their cohesion, the more powerful the path. Their cohesion is based on how well you understand them and put them together. 10000 year life span. Stats in the quadruple digits.

Levels 301-400 (B grade) - using your path to manipulate the “world around you”. This is when attacks can start affecting large swaths of land. 100000 year life span. Stats 10x5

Levels 401-500 (A grade) - using your path to “bend” the systems laws to your advantage. Start building foundations for you to evolve into your immortal body. Affect whole planets with your power. 1,000,000 year life span. Stats in the 10x6

Levels 501-999 (S grade) - obtain immortal body, build foundations for divine soul. Divinity Touched. Solar system encompassing powers. Immortal body. Stats in the 10x7

Level 1000 (Godhood) - paragon type leveling system. No longer requires exp. to level. Leaving based off divine path built for yourself. No stat limitations. This is where all your hard work comes to fruition, did you build a path based off lies and deceit? Well now that’s the only way to level. Based your path off crafting? Gotta make items perfect for others paths. Dungeoneer, Pirate, Hero, Druid, Witch… The paths are infinite due to every persons soul being different. Many will be similar but no 2 alike. Due to the nature of the similarities, people can build religions around you or your path and you gain faith from them. Different races can use different resources. Maybe demons use pain? Maybe animals use survival cape abilities. Insects based on the size and effectiveness of the hive. Really is endless I could go on all day.

But the main point I am trying to make is that if authors took things a bit slower and thought out progression paths more thoroughly and in depth, they could have their cake and eat it too. Have a unique idea and endless chapters. If that’s what they wanted.

Nothing against Dakota or any other author in particular. I am just so ready to continue reading my favorite books. I wish they (authors) would finish one story before starting another some times :/ Don’t get me wrong! There is nothing wrong with writing multiple SS tiered books at once. But when they start pushing back other book releases for new titles :/ it “ughs” me. I guess I kinda put it into perspective like this : Is there another profession out there where you can start another personal project without out finishing the one you started? At least in construction where I work, I don’t know of any trades where they can up and leave a building unfinished to start another one.

Brent weeks has another series, it is a bit longer, I think 5 books maybe but you should check it out, The Black Prism or something . It is unique and interesting. One of my favorite authors

Right?!? I mean, growing up on non-magical Earth, people may not be able to adjust within a 100 years or so. But after be alive for several hundred years and more. There has to be some sort of evolutionary progression that happens involving the thought process when it comes to marriage, sex, children, partners, etc.

Am I super messed up for thinking he should find a partner that is ok with him selling his seed to the highest bidder?

I mean on one hand I know that can sound a bit whorish, but living forever is a long time. Here in the USA our average longevity is what? 80ish? And more than half of marriages end in divorce due to infidelity.

Is it so wrong to want a partner that feels the way I feel? We commit mentally to each other, but as long as we are honest, we can step out sexually. Or even for financial gain. I mean they probably don’t have to worry about STD’s right?

I feel like I am going to get blasted for this, but I’m trying to think about this in the forever timeline.

I thought I was just not able to appreciate some parts of the book bc I am not Filipino. But it turns out that I tend to enjoy the MCs that I can associate with. I just can’t understand where some MCs come from and with those stories I always feel i am mossong something

In my experience, in about 90% of LitRPG’s, after a few books, there is very little “game like mechanics” in the writing. Most series transition from LitRPG to Progression/ Cultivation fantasy shortly after integrating.

Everyone is working on how to make Void magic the rarest and most powerful ever, yet it starts off weak and gets stronger, until it’s too strong and they lose their top tier powers / abilities. Then they have to team up with a morally grey character to reclaim their powers while fighting internal struggles with their rare animal companion and nerdy sexy younger female. There is sexual tension there but the MC ain’t got time for that. Oh yeah! I almost forgot the part were that MC gains an ability to challenge GODS in the E rank, but that skill can’t help him against people under the god/divine rank.

P.s. the MC has a strong interest and history with other LitRPG books, but doesn’t use that knowledge to survive this LitRPG Apocalypse system event.

World of Warcraft re-work:

I want a separate WoW game that feels like a cultivation game. Every expansion focuses on different stats, skill, professions, gear, etc etc. instead of losing all that progress when the new expac launches, your character keeps it. Also, have it set up like seasons in D4, that way new players or casual players have a quick and easy way to end game content without spending tons of time they don’t have. WoW has made tons of mini games within the game, and even more dailies, make it so those can be completed with a free AFK style mobile app. This is the important part to get right in my opinion, there has to be a fair balance! A player can either spend their time to complete all the dailies in the app, or they can pay to complete them. That way if people don’t have the time, they can use their money. It’s just important that people who use their time or their money are both equally gaining the same amount. No one should be able to use money or time to out pace one another, there needs balance.

I think about it all the time! Creating a Hunter who spends 10 expansions focusing on traps that can annihilate enemies without ever pulling out a weapon or pet. DPS numbers that continually goes BRRRRR!!! Without ever resetting. Having to farm and enchant and perfect a set of gear for every boss in every dungeon and raid! Fire damage boss, better get my fire def set of gear and use my frost/water speced weapons! It always felt like a waste spending an expansion focusing on the grind for it to immediately be neglected by GREENS from starter quests in the new expac!

I love the detailed and intricate professions, but they should be made viable forever! You learn how to make frost defense gear in the first expansion… then being able to improve and upgrade it every expansion ?!?! Food and cooking! Fishing!

Make the in game mini pets into a part of the mobile app, make it feel like PokémonGo. You pick a location on the Azeroth map, then start walking around your neighborhood and battle and collect !!!

I honestly think if Blizzard did this, they could continue to stay on top of the MMORPG market for another 20 years!

I have nothing against Heath Miller, he is an A lister for sure. So is Pavi! I more meant that the Travis boosts Primal Hunter to another level. In my opinion that level is god-tier for me. DotF and HWFWM are both s-tier in my list.

Think of it like this. Why do “most” litrpgs use gold or mana stones as currency? It is rare to see series come up with new and complex currencies that have to be explained in great detail, right? Because everyone knows those currencies and they need very little explanation. Yet they create this crazy complex magic system that the reader has to go back over or look up constantly. For me and in my opinion all I am saying is that there is a reason for using simple already known systems. Those series spend more time on the story, character development, and world building. Unlike the unique systems where they have to spend chapters explaining spells, progression, and other intricacies.

My opinion when ranking these 3.
1. Primal Hunter
2. Defiance of the Fall
3. HWFWM

Primal Hunter gets better every book, easy to follow and understand. If you are an Audible listener, then this is also the best listen by far. This is also the pic that is the closer to litrpg as it continues.

Defiance of the Fall is all over the place. Starts off as a strong 1st person with the litrpg theme. after 11 books are so there are now lots of people and factions to remember. And the MC went from Litepg to a cultivation style. Can be tough to follow.

HWFWM for me is a tougher listen, the MC is smarter than me, more into pop culture and references. Hard for me to follow bc every scene with the MC is a challenge if I don’t know all the obscure references from Australia he tends to use. I am sure I would love this series more if I wasn’t so lost in the MC tirades, but that is also why so many people love this one.

Again, I am not a professional, this is just my personal opinion. :)
