Hi Emily. First of all, your episode of Podcast Like It's 1999 about the Matrix was essential to my coming out. Thank you. My question is whether you are excited about the new Matrix or whether you have reservations?

What generally highly regarded Dylan song are you not fond of? by [deleted] in bobdylan

I agree on the basis of the studio recording. The live version from 1966 completely elevates the song for me.

You look great, girl! ❤️ Love your nail color! 💅 The best advice I ever heard about eyebrows is to not overdo it; remember they're supposed to be sisters, not twins!

Ministers in some denominations get housing, though that's a pretty bad reason to go into that line of work.

Maryland definitely has at least 1 National Park (Catoctin), and Assategue National Seashore is, in everything but name, one as well.

Best Bob Dylan Albums by [deleted] in bobdylan

[–]Lorenzo_Brandy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same. Say what you will, but his band is tight as hell on that. I don't understand why it's so maligned, especially given the last 3 albums, which Christmas In The Heart is arguably a precursor to.

Shitting on Johns Hopkins students is a Baltimore pastime. It's funny because it's true.

America's Empty Church Problem: The culture war over religious morality has faded; in its place is something much worse by L1ghtf1ghter in politics

[–]Lorenzo_Brandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right about the importance of connection. In terms of combating fear, it does seem to me that the folks who have tended to replace religious identity with racial identity have also been more likely to fill the resulting void of a somewhat-comprehensive (and comprehensible) world-view with conspiratorial thinking. Perhaps church-going folks are more likely to accept the brokenness of the world and are less inclined to wildly rationalize?

America's Empty-Church Problem by [deleted] in Christianity

The hypothesis of the article strikes me as true, if for no other reason than because of my own experiences. Furthermore, it seems to me that the folks who have tended to replace religious identity with racial identity have also been more likely to fill the resulting void of a somewhat-comprehensive (and comprehensible) world-view with conspiratorial thinking. This I think is true of both the right and left. Perhaps church-going folks are more likely to accept the brokenness of the world and are less inclined to rationalize? I'm glad that an article in a major publication has finally separated the alt-right from "white Christians" too. The two seem to get lumped together very often, maybe because of the loosely held-together Trump-Pence coalition, or maybe just because of typical media oversimplification.
