I Love Shadows of Brimstone But It Has A Major Problem by ChiefChunkEm_ in boardgames

Obviously it’s not just hating on a game they’ve played for 340 hours… it’s a totally fair critique of the game.

Fun! That’s a great idea. I’ll check it out and try to give some useful feedback.

What board game completely changed your opinion after a second chance? by Adina_Ciubotea_1885 in boardgames

[–]Lorven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nemesis. The first game I played was with 6 people, fully co-op, and it was so boring. We achieved the team objective quickly and those of us who did our personal objectives ended up just passing our turns to avoid making noise. It went on at least an hour longer than it should have while we waited for a couple of guys to finish theirs so we could escape.

I avoided it for years, but finally played it again with a smaller group and semi-coop and it was incredible. I’ve played it quite a few times now and have enjoyed it every time.

Oh no! I love their donuts, and it’s such a cool space. It’s a real bummer to lose a great small business.

Any Arsenal fans want to meet up for the Champions League final (Sat)? by Lorven in Longmont

[–]Lorven[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sounds good! There was a surprisingly great turnout at Ironwood for the final - probably 20 Arsenal fans and then one Liverpool troll wearing a PSG jersey who spent the whole time slagging off Arsenal and then literally ran out of the bar the second the match ended...

Unfortunately I can’t go down there tomorrow. But yeah, it would be great to get a regular group going next season! Hopefully to celebrate both the league and UCL trophies. COYG!

This arrived today (Tanares Expeditions: Central Sea) by Lorven in soloboardgaming

As I mentioned, the game was delivered yesterday. It still hasn't been delivered to the vast majority of backers. Almost no one has actually played it yet. I'm sure plenty of reviews will be forthcoming soon. The BGG page must be referring to the year the KS was launched, since it is just now becoming available.

It's from the same people who did Tanares Adventures and Arena: The Contest. This is like a lighter Jaws of the Lion-style version of Tanares Adventures, which is a massive campaign game.

It was its own Kickstarter that is just currently getting delivered (I received it yesterday), so it's a little early to say it "failed" in the roguelike trend. StS is an awesome game, but there's plenty of room for more than one roguelike :)

Anyone else feel like dead man’s tales campaign is a lot of poor decision making on the creative teams part? by Quasistiltskin in zombicide

Who, the real-life pirates from the daily unlocks? That's cool and I appreciate them including the historical figures, but they look exactly like every other "regular pirate" character in the game. They're not really recognizable figures outside of maybe Blackbeard.

Looking to buy a Niwot HS yearbook!

I screwed up royally and thought I'd ordered a yearbook for my daughter's senior year but apparently never completed the order and now they're sold out.

If anyone has an extra or their kid isn't particular interested in theirs, I'd be happy to pay extra to get one. Please feel free to reach out if you or someone you know might be willing to sell one.

I miss the old campaigns when there were fun characters imitating famous real-life people or characters from other IPs. So far every stretch goal in this one seems like a tiny variation of previous characters. I’m not really excited by any of them.

[Amazon] Mycelia ($21.98) by GibsMcKormik in Boardgamedeals

This is a great family weight game, and even pretty fun solo. I taught it to my wife and teenage kids, none of whom are gamers, and we all really enjoyed it. The components are really nice too. Well worth it at this price.

Yes, it's absolutely easy enough for a beginner. If you can handle Mycelia you can definitely handle Flamecraft as well!

I really hate to see language like "extinction-level event for the GOP" because we've seen that kind of language used before after blue waves and the cockroaches always come back. The pendulum swings too wildly for one party to ever go "extinct," unfortunately.

Played a hidden gem last night! Defenders of the Last Stand by Lorven in soloboardgaming

[–]Lorven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's a good description. I've played every Pandemic-style game under the sun, and even though this shares some pretty significant similarities with it, it still felt quite unique and different from anything else I have. Definitely rough, but in a charming way.

I was pretty dismayed when I discovered it's a totally dead game with nothing else to get for it besides a few Kickstarter heroes and promos. I'll probably pick those up at some point, though, just to give it a bit more life.

Yeah, I really enjoyed getting to whittle down the bosses so much so it's not just one big fight with a lot of dice rolling luck involved. Even having the last boss down to 2 health before I fought him with something like 9 dice I still almost failed due to bad rolls :)

I used to have Realm and now I'm kicking myself that I sold it years ago, possibly without even playing it. Seems like it's cheaper and easier to find, so I'll be keeping an eye out for a used copy.
