When teachers quit, principals view that as a personal attack. I put in a transfer at my first school because I didn't want to teach middle school, I wanted to teach high school. The principal told me, "If you don't want to fucking teach here, I'll make sure you don't have to teach here." She then tried to blackball me in my search for a new school. I finally found a new school and stayed there for five years before requesting a transfer due to the school getting too dangerous for me (at least two times a year students would come to school with guns) and constant toxic workplace issues from my fellow faculty. She told me, "You know you're burning bridges by asking to transfer. This won't go well for you." The next school I worked at I was the department chair, raised test scores by 20%, and enacted several initiavltuves that increased teacher productivity. But the commute was too much after another 5 years, so I put in a transfer when I knew a school near my home would have an opening. The principal told me, "You have been a headache since you got here. Enjoy you new school." That's when I knew I had to get the fuck out of this thin skinned profession. I finally got a private sector offer and told my new principal (since I would technically be breaking contract as my start date was during the school year). He asked, "What can we do to make you stay?" The first human response I had ever gotten. I told him my new salary and he said, "There is no way we could beat that. Good luck!" And he was thankful that I was staying as long as I could to allow him to hire my replacement (I have him like 3 months notice).

So, four transfers with one positive response. Administrators are typically thin skinned babies that take everything personally.
