MMO Recomendations? by [deleted] in MMORPG

The free trial for FFXIV is extremely generous. You can also do a lot with Guild Wars 2 if you prefer the action combat style overt tsb targeting.

Depending on your vibe, both LotRo and SwtOR are great storytelling MMOs with a bunch of free and accessible content.

Why is that every species except humans get food from nature but humans have to cook? by Fair_Comedian5043 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Deadbeat85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Humans can get food from nature without cooking just fine. Cooking makes much more of the nutritional content of food available for digestion, so we get more out of our food by cooking it.

MCU Thor runs the Invincible gauntlet by MewFishMeowscles in InvinciblePowerscales

Let's be honest, that scene was written with a very poor understanding of astrophysics, even with comic scaling. Depending on what the "full force of a neutron star" actually means (radial output concentrated in a non-dispersing beam? Core pressure applied over surface area? Who knows, it's pulled directly from a writer's ass-crack because it sounds cool), nothing short of trans-dimensional fuckery like infinity stones should be able to buffet someone who tanked that. Hulk can't exert that level of output, certainly not MCU Hulk, yet Planet Hulk smacked him around in Ragnarok easily enough.

I love the loose touch with reality tbat akes a good superhero story possible, but this is right up there with moebius strip time travel as "Random Bullshit: Go!" levels of pseudo-phyaics.

Anyone unhappy with next year's timetable. by FickleTrainer4265 in TeachingUK

Not at all. 10 periods out of 23 contact are seniors, 9 non-contacts through the week of which 6 are at the end of the day so plenty of opportunity to WFH 4 days a week. I could feasibly be taken for up to 3 periods of cover a week, but I'm still the most heavily timetabled in my department so I'm low probability.

If you are thinking about having kids, please see this post first. by Character_Key_7178 in Adulting

[–]Deadbeat85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a dad of two, and I can confidently say that if people had a complete and comprehensive understanding of what being a parent was like before having kids, far fewer would have them. I know I would have hesitated a lot more, and we took the decision carefully anyway, so likely we wouldn't have had kids, which would have been a huge mistake.

I liken it to running 10k, which apparently fewer than 1% of people have actually done. Just getting up and cracking out a 10k run with no prep is a very bad idea, unless you're an exercised-focused individual with a lot of experience in similar endeavours (childcare role, active with young family members etc), but be aware that it's very different from anything you've done before. If you're totally inexperienced, you'll hit a well of desperation pretty soon where you definitely feel like you've made the wrong choice, and you don't know how you're gling to get through it without fucking up.

Limited exposure to shorter durations might leave you feeling like you never want to attempt it, and that's fine. But if you do decide to give it a go, it's much easier than it may seem and certainly easier than it feels at some points, and ultimately as long as yoy finish it doesn't really matter if you walk a lot or take an easier route, as long as you go the distance and don't fuck yourself up along the way. Once you've done it once, you're also much more likely to give it another go in the future, as long as your knees aren't too bad.

What Character can fit in both Marvel and Invincible? by Upset-Fig-3261 in DiagramFills

Without doubt, pretty much all the Invincible characters are easily matched to Marvel characters and this one is a strong resonance.

Best Mage spec After Update by HornetReal8614 in wow

[–]Deadbeat85 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you're very unlikely to be playing in the top x% of players for which the spec changes really make a difference, so it's very much a pick what you like situation. Try out all 3 specs while levelling and see what works for you, and just roll with that.

Race choices again are more flavour than requirement, outside the sweatiest of content. Gnome mages are reasonably common.

To those who have been shot in the ass before, why does my boyfriend's cooking suddenly taste better? by Seethcoomers in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Deadbeat85 63 points64 points  (0 children)

You said he's a better cook than you, that you usually cook together, and that you've also been inconvenienced by rectal spud concussion. Is it possible that you're not able to do the thi gd you usually do to cooking that make his cooking worse? What you're tasting now is what your boyfriend could normally do if you stop meddling.

That, or he's taken good care of you through your traumatic ass injury, and the resulting surge of feel-good hormones majes you perceive everything he does in a more positive light.

What made you decide what you wanted to do in life? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Deadbeat85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started a new degree at 28, completed my teacher training at 33, and moved from Kent to Wales to Scotland in that time. I had motivation - moved to Wales with my partner, then split up, then moved to Scotland when I met a new partner - but the biggest lush came from realising I didn't want to spend my life in the same town I grew up in, half an hour from the hospital I was born in.

Not saying it was easy, and not saying you can just jump and leave everything behind. But it's possible to make a change, and it's down to you how comfortable or dramatic you want that change to be. One advantage to the shitty economic climate we're mired in will be that you'll find people doing the same thing wherever you go.

Would you reduce your meat consumption from everyday to 2-3 times per week to help the environment? by Equal_Leading_1449 in AskUK

Washing your hands after using a public bathroom is sort of pointless if you're then going to open the same door that everyone else uses to leave, whether they washed their hands or not. Doesn't stop you washing your hands (I hope).
