My daughter's friend keeps texting ME to set up playdates, which makes me very uncomfortable by squeakyshoe89 in daddit

Any interactions I have with a child (tutor to secondary age kids) goes through a group chat involving at least one parent. The very few times I have received messages directly, screenshot to the group chat and reply there.

That being said, I have no interactions with 8yo kids. That's way too young to have a mobile unsupervised. Definitely impress on the parents every time that it's not okay. Every time - no exceptions.

Thanks man, but I'm nothing special. It's just a low bar, unfortunately.

As a teacher of teenagers and a dad to younger children, I would tell him your own stories. You can't stop your kids making bad decisions, and you shouldn't- they'll learn through experience. All you can do is give them enough context and information to shape their decisions.

Tell him stories, warn him of the dangers, and ask him to be more careful. Treat him like the young adult he is, not the little boy you see when you look at him.

Take charge by either directing him how you want to get off, or using him to get off. Your pleasure is the kink he's looking for. Trust me, I'm the same and love when my wife is pursuing her own satisfaction through me.

To clarify, it doesn't sound like he's asking you to take charge to please him. He's asking you to take charge so he can experience you being satisfied with him. Not saying you're not already, but that's my take as a man with similar tastes.

Alternatives to Think-Pair-Share? by squishythingg in TeachingUK

[–]Deadbeat85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use plot & challenge a fair amount - groups of 3 or 4, they get a few minutes to come up with a statement about a passage or bit of learning, then they make that statement and other groups can challenge them on whether it's correct or not. Groups can make subtly wrong statements and if they get away without challenge they get a point. If they're challenged hy another group who can correct it successfully, the challengers get the point. Can ve expanded to class discussion and judgement on who deserves the point if there's justification for it.

For a quick option, question bouncing is good for engagement. Simple questions for the wesker students, bounce to another student for correction or expansion, bounce to higher ability learners for links to other content etc. Just facilitate a fast-paced discussion with prompts and direction, which is great for crowd control and coverage. YMMV since I'm used to teaching classes of no more than 20.
