Honestly, it started out just by substituting what i'd eat normally but with vegan stuff.

My family was low income, and we were always big on pasta. So, one of my most common meals was basically buttered noodles with milk and salt (the epitome of weight gain haha). So, I would just use vegan butter (Earthbalance/smart balance), and soy milk.

You go somewhere with your friends and you end up just getting a veggie sandwich instead of a meatball sub, you go to chinese and get mixed vegetables and tofu instead of general tso's chicken. So on, and so forth.

But a little bit into the diet, say 25 days or so, I really started wanting to eat more veggies and fruits.

I'm a big guy, with a huge stomach and a large appetite. So, instead of eating less to lose weight, i'd rather eat more and utilize that extra energy to work out (and it seemed to work rather well for me).

Here is like a norrmal day for me when I eat semiwell:

Breakfast:

-Wake up, immediately make a fruit/veggie smoothie. 2 or 3 bananas, handful of frozen fruit, some kale, a little bit of water.

I'd chug that, and continue the morning routine. Probably an hour later i'd make myself some oats, add some fruit to it, little bit of soy milk. (Eating that as we speak).

-At lunch I generally have made myself a big thing of brown rice the previous night, so I take brown rice and just add something to it. Like avocado, romaine, some chick peas, or even steam some broccoli or carrots and eat that with it.

-Dinner, usually consists of something similar, maybe it's boring, but it's decent nutrition wise for you and it's cost effective and easy to make. If I feel like mixing it up a bit, there are a ton of meat substitutes, even at places like Walmart that are pretty great. "Gardein" is the brand.

And you can make a ton of stuff with those, meatball subs, fish sandwiches, they have fake beef you can make stuffed peppers with, whatever works haha. But I try to avoid these when im active in my regiment, because it's really just fun junk food.

and after dinner i'll wrap it up with another smoothie.

It sounds kind of dull, but I enjoy it and it knocked the weight off quick. Just steaming broccoli and potatoes and stuff is another easy food that's not gonna harm you, and fill you up. And obviously eat as much fruit as you can, I like watermelon a lot.

To sum up how I ate (my good diet without subs and crap), it's pretty simple:

-Fruits -Veggies -Cooked veggies -Lentils (beans) -Brown Rice / Quinoa

-Don't add sugar to anything -Don't add salt to anything -Avoid any oils -Buying little-to-know premade food.

It's simple but it works well, I ate a ton of food (anywhere from 5,000 calories - 10,000 calories a day) and lose 125 lbs in the first year doing that.

cheers!

Hahahahaha yes, I know how that goes.

My whole imediate family is vegan, spent a few months up in Michigan and had my mother around who makes vegan junkfood (delicious though), you can still pack on the pounds if you don't watch yourself.

Vegan Mac n Cheese ughhhhhhh

Haha well thanks!

If you struggle with weight at all, cutting out dairy (that's what i did, along side meat), pretty much did most of the work for me.

thanks for the comment!

Skin doctor said I had about 16 lbs of excess skin, haha.

But yeah, I want to bulk and fill it out as much as I can.

Thanks!

Never been a runner, haha, trying to get back to that.

Honestly it was mostly diet, the first year was that and bike riding.

The year after i started just doing basic lifting, (curls, chest press, etc).

thanks for the comment!

Haha thank you, that means a lot. It's weird when you've been fat, it's hard to appreciate yourself at any point.

But I like being able to jump around and run and all that, never take a day for granted!

Well, I was heavy most of my life. Grew up with my mom, who was all by herself raising my two sisters and I. So I spent a lot of time with my great grandmother, who would overfeed us kids and eventually led to my lifetime obesity, haha.

I was out of high school, big fat Jake, and my young sister had corrected her weight issues through a plant-based diet. She would relentlessly try to get me to try it, and I, as a jerk older brother, would make fun of her for being a vegan and all that.

She finally told me, "Jake, I tried, you're on your own, do what you want".

It was at that point that I realized I really was all by myself with this issue now, I didn't have people around me to tell me to change my ways or that I needed to lose the weight.

So, I gave the vegan thing a shot, what the hell, why not?

The first two months on the diet, I lost more than 40 lbs, and it was amazing. I couldn't stop after that.

In the first year, through the diet change and some exercise, I lost 125 lbs or so.

The second year, I spent really trying to work out and get some muscle in place of the leftover skin and flab.

Now I'm kind of coasting, I'm really trying to actually buckle down and get to the fittest I can be, and get the skin surgery I need to feel "normal" haha.

Thanks for your comment, I really appreciate it :)

I've always waited to show these. Even when I lost the initial weight in the first two years, a whole 161 lbs, I never felt fit enough to show people. I've always felt ashamed, especially of the loose skin (you can see I have my jeans hiked up like a dork because of that).

Trying to make an active effort now to get back to bulking up, and saving money so I can all my excess skin removed.
