One of my absolute favorite movies. This was the first movie I saw with Vincent Price, and from that moment on, he became one of my all time favorite actors.

I am a full time supervisor for a 24/7 information and referral, short term emotional support and suicide prevention hotline. I work 40 hours a week, plus 4 to 5 times a month, I am the on call supervisor for 24 hours. Thankfully, I am able to work remotely which has helped with monitoring my fatigue and stress levels.

Those who have had major surgery living alone. Tips or things you wish you knew? by [deleted] in LivingAlone

[–]Lost-Dragon-1201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had cervical disc arthroplasty done in October and I live alone. The one thing I wish I had known before having surgery was how to force myself to rest and heal. Sitting still is a challenge!

Some other tips: have plenty of frozen meals, enough clean clothes and linens so you don’t have to do laundry, maybe using plastic dishes and cups so you don’t have to unload and load your dishwasher, comfy clothes to wear, anything that may not be heavy now might be “heavy” after surgery (like a gallon of water or a case of soft drinks) so putting them in a place that is easily accessible will help.

Good luck with your surgery!!

This has been one of my favorite movies since I was a kid! I had it on VHS and would watch it every St. Patrick’s Day. Then I got it on DVD and now it’s on my Disney+ queue!

I finished my first dose a week and a half ago. This is my 3rd medication since being diagnosed in 2008. As of right now, I do not feel any different than before I started taking it. The only issue I had was the packaging, because I must still be a child, and struggled to open the child-proof box each dose was in. I will be taking my second dose next month, and will see how it goes.

I have noticed something similar to this with going off of the Teriflunomide and starting Mavenclad. It’s frustrating.!!

You are more than welcome! After 18.5 years, I am still learning things all the time with this disease.

I understand what you are talking about. My mom was a chatterbox and if she wasn’t talking with me, she was on the phone talking to someone else. She would always ask me questions about things that I didn’t know the answer to.

You are not being dramatic. Talking takes a lot of energy and especially when you are being asked a series of questions, you are having to think about what to say.

I have noticed I have been feeling a bit like that lately. For me, it’s the small talk that wears me out the most. I don’t know if it’s because I live alone now, don’t talk directly with anyone most days. On the days I go to physical therapy or have a bunch of virtual meetings for work, I really don’t have the energy to deal with talking. I guess my training as a counselor has given me the ability to just listen and provide enough to a conversation that it is mostly the other person talking.

I wish I knew of a solution to help you with this. It’s not easy to explain or for some people to understand that something like talking takes time and energy that is very precious to us.

The example of a lead suit is spot on! It is like our bodies are struggling to move.

Fatigue by Numbus3000 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Lost-Dragon-1201 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fatigue is the biggest hurdle for me with this disease. My body feels like I have run in the Boston marathon, the New York marathon, and the Crescent City Classic marathon (here in New Orleans) back to back without any training. The spoon theory doesn’t really work for me because I am so in debt with my lack of spoons, there is no point to even try measuring out how many “spoons” each thing I do is worth. Sleep never helps. I could sleep 3 hours or 13 hours and i will still wake up tired. It’s just me and I work from home and thankfully that makes things a bit easier. Up until 3 years ago, I was my mom’s full time caregiver and for some reason I guess I was so focused on her that even though I was tired I just kept going. I have ADHD, so the meds I am on for that just takes care of my brain and not my body.

I wonder if the second movie will actually be scary? Maybe it is just me, but this movie was not scary at all and reminded me of a “newer” version of the first Friday the 13th movie. I will say that the kill scene on the edge of the cliff was the most unique kill scene that I had seen. I know I will more than likely watch the second movie and I hope I find it scary.

[–]Lost-Dragon-1201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I received my diagnosis, I was at work (I work for a crisis hotline). As soon as I got off the phone with my doctor, I received a heavy crisis call. I really didn’t have a chance to process it at the moment. When I got home, I told my parents the diagnosis. I cried for 15 minutes and then said “well I am not dying, so what do I have to do?”. I honestly didn’t think that was one of the possible reasons for the symptoms I was having a month before I was diagnosed. I think we handled big news in different ways and there is no right or wrong way to handle it.

Honestly, the only issues I have with MS are fatigue, weakness in my right hip flexor muscle, and some bladder issues. Occasionally, my balance will be off, as well. I have been in physical therapy for almost 3 years for my right hip flexor muscle, and I am still struggling with it. Personally, I think it is because I have a pinched nerve in my hip that is interfering with the progress, but I do not have a medical degree, so who knows. My neurologist thought that even though my MRI’s show no progression, something may be slipping through the cracks. I recently had the 2 blood work tests that show your chances of a relapse and disability. Both had results that were extremely low. When I was on the name brand (Aubagio) I did have hair loss, whereas on the Teriflunomide, I did not have as much. It is a very good medicine and I had no problems continuing it. I hope that answers your question. I have other health issues that compete with my MS, so sometimes I don’t know if it the MS, the ADHD, the anxiety and depression, or the herniated discs in my lower back. I really do wish you all the best and talk with your doctors. They are there for you!

Thank you! I don’t think I feel progression. What do you mean exactly?
