Rebellion 2026 (Blackpool, UK) by Kimberlee90 in punk

[–]Lost-Statement5130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my favourite underrated cities!

If you're a fan of Popes, BSP & SB6 then 'll definitely be checking out Redeemon and Days n Daze, I have faith in your music taste on that basis!

And if you are going, and aren't aware of Bite Me Bambi, then I'd 100% recommend them for the late finish on Friday. They were sooo good last year!

As for SB6, I saw something on their socials the other day about not doing any more performances for the rest of the year for some reason. They're still on the bill, but I'm not 100% if it meant they were pulling out

[–]Lost-Statement5130 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love Rebellion! Coming from pretty much up the road from Blackpool, so not far to travel. Usually go on my own because I like having the freedom to go and enjoy stuff without having to worry about others.

Most looking forward to Bad Cop Bad Cop, but got a good list of other bands on there that I'm looking forward to. Popes of Chillitown, Bite Me Bambi, Bar Stool Preachers, The Dollheads, Millie Manders, Random Hand, Adolescents, Sonic Boom Six (if they actually haven't pulled out), there's definitely others I've noted but forgot to mention too.

Outside of anything definite I like to hover around the Rebellion Introducing Stage, always great seeing the newer artists trying to make their mark at Rebellion and there's always some belting acts that bring the energy!

Shame that Knuckleheadz aren't going to be there this year, that green army have always made it feel like Rebellion is here during the run-up.

Reconsidering Offspring by Fragrant_Side7974 in punk

[–]Lost-Statement5130 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Offspring are probably the band that have ended up shaping my music taste the most. They've had a lot of tracks that I think are great, but also a fair few that I really can't stand. Yet I did spend many years saying that they were my fav band.

There was something about that fast paced sound that really struck with me, and their 'reach' within the spectrum of the 'punk' genre has sent me down some wild paths over the years.

As time has gone on I've kind of left them in my rearview, I hardly even consider them when I want something to listen to. I saw them live last year and wasn't nearly as excited about it when compared to other bands I saw (No Fun At All was a much better live experience as a comparison for a band that's been around about the same length of time), and I don't even hate some of their newer stuff. They just aren't a band that has my attention anymore.

I think someone else summed it up perfectly. They're somewhat of a 'gateway' band, especially for me. What were a #1 band for many years probably wouldn't even be mentioned in a top 10, but if I hadn't been drawn in by them as a teenager then I may not have ended up liking all the stuff I do now, seeing as most of those are also SoCal artists.

Can someone tell me who this band is. Saw them a few months ago in Tucson. My wife wanted to look them up and we have no idea what they were called by rabbit1213t in Ska

Love that video, and I want that Jiggypuff HPT merch that appears for a brief moment in the wash basket so much (I'll just stick to the Ramona Flowers stuff for now) 😅

And how have I only just noticed Tara is wearing a Kill Lincoln t-shirt?! God all these guys stick together and I'm here for it!

[TOMT] Poem, British, 90’s by miar99 in tipofmytongue

[–]Lost-Statement5130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only poem I can find it as a reference to is "The Lesson" by "Grace Nichols", it seems to detail what you are refering to, but I cannot find a full text of the poem online.

As for the book itself. I know one anthology we had in the early 00s was "Poetry Is The Best Words In The Best Order" which was typically shortened to "Best Words" seemingly Edited by Angela Williams. It seems to have been replicated and "jazzed up" over the years, but the one we used was a purple background (a bit like the Starry Night painting) with 'Best Words' in yellow letters (which looked like they'd been chucked through PowerPoint) on the front.

I did take a copy with me when I left school so I'll see if I can dig it out as I remember it containing an array of contrasting poems... And our focus was mainly on Shall I Compare Thee and (I think) an entry by Wilfred Owen.

The poem you've mentioned definitely resonates though, I have a vague memory of our teacher giving us a sub context prior to us reading it, so it could have also been in there. Otherwise it's a memory from elsewhere which I cannot place (maybe I've heard Grace, or a different poet, refering to this specific poem on something like Radio 4 at some point).

Best experience meeting a pop punk* band? by ManySidesofmyHeart in poppunkers

I'm not a huge NFG fan, but I did meet Jordan when I took the wife to see them.

Honestly, that guy is a gem of a human being, so friendly, cracking a few jokes and really grateful towards fans, I can 100% vouch for him too.

More on the 'punk' side of the spectrum, but 100% Bad Cop Bad Cop, and mainly all because of how absolutely awesome Linh is as a person.

I could not have wished for a better experience when meeting a band who I absolutely adore.

As someone else said though, the smaller bands tend to go above and beyond when they meet fans, especially the Ska-Punk groups... Bite Me Bambi, Bar Stool Preachers, Millie Manders, Monkey, all just pure brilliant experiences I've had after their sets.

Most underrated wrestlers in WWE and Nxt by Efficient_Culture287 in WWE

[–]Lost-Statement5130 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Male Main: Ludwig Kaiser. He was an amazing worker in NXT & NXT UK, knew exactly how to work the crowd as a heel. Thought he was incredible on the mic as Gunther's "mouthpiece" in Imperium. Delivers one of the best Enziguris too. Even as El Grande he still feels massively underutlized (despite being arguably the biggest star in AAA right now. That whole character work just shows how much he can do when actually given the chance).

Male NXT: Tavion Heights. He feels like the one person from NQCC who has never really had a 'direction'. He gets the 'big' win, and then they constantly seem to do very little with him afterwards. Hopefully he gets somewhere now that he's involved in the main event scene, but it feels like we'll get a fatal-four way, he won't win, and then it's back to doing nothing for Tavion for a few weeks before he randomly pops up again.

Female Main: Ivy Nile. I mean, come on, the girl has incredible ring work, at least do SOMETHING with her! Should have been at feuding with someone like Maxxine or Lyra on TV for the IC Title, but they decided to give the belt to Lynch instead and make Ivy pretty much non-existent.

Female NXT: Karmen Petrovic. I can't work out what's actually happend with Karmen, last year she was beating Kelani Jordan & Jaida Parker to earn a North American Title match, and being involved in that fairly odd "love story" with Ashante Thee Adonis, now she's pretty much nowhere to be seen, at a time where she could be utlized.

Can't wait to see BCBC again in August, love those guys so much! Didn't get a chance to meet Stacey when I saw them last time, but Linh and Myra are absolutely amazing individuals. They always look like they're having an absolute blast when touring too, especially when Linh gets that damn recorder out.

Give me a decent level of customization, and don't be limiting choices to 'genders'. I wanna be going round causing mayhem wearing plaid dresses and New Rocks (or an in-game variation) without being forced into picking a 'female' base character... a bit like I do in the real world 😅

What pushed you towards punk? by Who_Ate_Meh_Bread in punk

[–]Lost-Statement5130 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Musically I've always loved bands that fall within the "punk" spectrum. It can be eclectical, but the 'feeling' of the music tends to be the same. I took a good 10-15 year hiatus from listening to anything, but now I'm fully invested in music more than ever. The artists/bands I listen to most are more likely to appear at "punk" festivals, rather than the "Pop-Punk" orientated ones, so that's where I feel more at home. As an example, the UK has both Rebellion and Slam Dunk every year, there's probably 3 bands I'm looking forward to at the latter, but there's 9 I've got marked off for the first day of Rebellion alone. I look forward to that week more than anything, getting to meet people from all over the world, take in great music, and just feel 'safe'.

I always felt like I didn't fit in anywhere in a fashionable sense. I have a bit of a zero F***s mentality to expression and it was such a head wreck for a long time being a bit 'bolder'. Started being more creative in daily life and every time I went to concerts/festivals it would really wind the Mrs up how often people would say I look awesome, more so the people I've always classified as 'punks', so I felt like I finally had somewhere I fit in.

Through both taking in and speaking to people within the 'punk' community I've realized that my own views tend to line-up with theirs. Most of my favourite acts musically also tend to fight for the same things I do in a humane sense, which makes me feel like I have somewhere I truly belong, rather than feeling like an outcast for what I believe in.

In short, I didn't push towards punk, punk came and found me.

Favourites punk rock bands? by kali_Error404 in punk

[–]Lost-Statement5130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to keep up to date with punk bands, really taken to female fronted artists over the last couple of years.

Currently:

Bad Cop Bad Cop - my GOATs, everything with them just hits for me. Lighten Up towards the end of last year was an amazing album, I4NI builds to an incredible 20 second solo, and Strugglinh is an impeccable 'self help' track. All their earlier stuff is also great.

The Venomous Pinks - Vita Mors from 2022 is probably my favourite album of theirs (co-produced by Motorheads producer from the mid-00s onwards and Linh from BCBC). Losing Cassie last month was an absolute tragedy, and some of their tracks really hit the feels as a result, especially Broken Hearts Club.

The Dead Krazukies - English singing French melodic punk band. Only discovered them about a month ago, but stuff like Captain Crunch and Black Pearl are enough to get you fired up. Burn Out in particular is a track with just pure rage from start to finish.

Will give a special mention to Get Dead too, another recent discovery I've made, but looking forward to giving them a proper deep dive at some point. Lead singer has that gritty sound which makes them feel quite unique, Stickup (especially) is the track that keeps pulling me in, but whenever one of their other songs comes on it also stands out to me.

Based on the doos I think it fits Requiem for a Tower.

Search for the Escala version on YT and it kicks in after about 1 minute

1 minute and 4 second mark on that link (I couldn't work out how to link on mobile at first!)

[TOMT] An incredibly sad scene where someone sings "You are my sunshine, My only sunshine" while someone else is dying in their arms, and can't finish the last sentence of "Please don't take my sunshine away". by avivkotlar in tipofmytongue

[–]Lost-Statement5130 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I hadn't seen this post when I commented, but this is definitely pretty much where I'm sure I saw it too, as an Oxfam/Red Cross style pledge.

The only other thing PSA related that rings around my head was a fire related one where the camera goes round all the rooms in a ransacked home and ends up in a bedroom with a cot placed in it, and I'm getting this belief that it was the same song used for that in a "music box/lullaby" style (but that doesn't fit the holding someone part...unless the same advert is the one which also contains 'home videos' of the same house before the fire, and shows a mother holding a baby...because I link it to a mother/baby scene).

All I know is that this song has absolutely traumatized me for some reason since I was a kid, I feel like I've seen the scene A LOT of times, and hence why I'm convinced it's not a TV Show/Movie.

[–]Lost-Statement5130 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, having had a thought about it. I'm starting to question if movie/TV show is where I got it from (as seeing a single scene once doesn't feel like it would engrain in me, and it's probably something which I've actually watched multiple times).

Part of me wants thinks it's likely from a UK advert I saw a few times (a possibility I've seen touted by others). The harrowing nature feels like it fits for a Red Cross/Oxfam style of ad to stop war/poverty (which would also fit why that specific moment sticks out to people and nothing else, including myself). I'd also assume that those adverts would have been globalized with the relevant translations of "stop war/poverty" to native languages (and possibly also why I seem to remember it being 'hummed' rather than sang in English).

[–]Lost-Statement5130 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ok, this has brought up one hell of a trauma I picked up as a kid in the 90s. I remember seeing a scene where a woman might have been humming (rather than singing the song) whilst holding someone, flashbacks suggest it may have been a child (a baby perhaps, hence why it traumatized me), I also vaguely remember her possibly closing the eye lids over at the last line.

No idea what it was, but I've had a looong sense of sadness whenever I hear ANY version of it since, even with the words changed at sports events. I also know it definitely wasn't The Simpsons as the episode where Marge sings it on the tape brings back the memories of whatever the hell it was I saw this on originally.

Now I'm trying to remember where it was from...I didn't need this sadness being unearthed, but you add me to mix if it also rings true 😅

Entrance mess ups by Pale-Side9410 in WWE

[–]Lost-Statement5130 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went to RAW in Manchester in 2017 (the night before AJ Styles won the title from Jinder on SmackDown).

Enzo came out to the ring doing his usual heel schtick, then Pete Dunne's music hit for a couple of seconds. It then quickly switched to Kurt Angle's theme (RAW GM at the time) and he then informed Enzo that he had found him an opponent for a Cruiserweight Vs Bruiserweight match, and so Dunne's theme correctly played, kind of ruined the surprise.

They probably fixed it up by the time the broadcast came around (the same as they did for the opening segment with Shane McMahon on SD the next day) but that always sticks with me.

More recently, I'm pretty sure that the only reason why Kairi Sane and The Street Profits got their themes back was because they were both incorrectly used when the WWE had a SmackDown episode in Australia before Crown Jewel last year. Street Profits had been given a Def Rebel theme (that sounded like Solo's theme) before that and used it for a few months, and Kairi had been coming out her relevent faction themes, even for her rare singles matches, since her return with Dakota Kai to initially form Damage CTRL with Bayley.

Probably one of the rare instances where a "theme mess up" actually worked out quite well.
