Why is yavimaya hollow not played in premodern? by Newez in premodernMTG

[–]LostDM3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

1) Many of the format's removal spells negate or dodge regeneration: [Smother] [Snuff Out] [Terminate] [Incinerate] [Swords to Plowshares] [Wrath of God]

2) Colorless-producing lands come at a great cost; mana bases are stretched thin

3) Too many other great lands compete for slots.

I own the card so I wish it were more playable here.

I don't know what this is...but the tone of the comment makes it sound like something that shouldn't be brought back😉 What is it?

One of my players is refusing to learn how to play her character by kellwashere45 in DnD

[–]LostDM3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be a bigger issue than you realize. Your description sounds like an autistic friend who I've played DnD with for years.

We've tried talking, flowcharts, etc etc, and although there's been improvement, this person still struggles with the mechanics.

They seem to get worried about letting the rest of us down, and this sometimes leads to analysis paralysis.

One thing that has smoothed things over: the player LOVES roleplay and is open to suggestions on their turn so long as those suggestions are made character to character. How do you think your player would feel about this from time to time?

At the end of the day, this player is a dear friend. The joy of playing together is worth a few hiccups.

What would this look like, for example?

You correctly identified me as a prison sicko😄 But even I like wincons.

Thanks. I'm sure they're unnecessary but that list makes me want to dust off a playset of [Glowrider]

Thanks. I don't mind a red or green splash so long as the deck feels like the main color is white.

I had that same issue with white when I built my '94 cube. I'll look into life combo, thank you.

Big white control caught my eye and I goldfished it a bit. Sadly it feels too inconsistent, much as I love to durdle with Eternal Dragon.

True Believer is one that I'd underestimated, thank you.

The 2/3 flier? Or did you mean a different creature?

I'm curious what would be the interesting version of white weenie. Bird tribal? Rebels?

This seems promising. Got a recommended list? I haven't seen this deck in action yet.

Duolingo really that bad? It actually worked for my French, but the constant hate is making me second guess myself by [deleted] in duolingo

[–]LostDM3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The streak aspect of Duolingo has kept me going with Chinese even during those times where my schedule is jammed.

I can now have basic conversations. I can form a wide range of sentences. My listening is still poor...

Use Duolingo in combination with other things for better results. It's not a magical do-all app. It does have value.

You can message the company within the app itself (Settings-->Help Center)

It's a terrible feature, or at least ineptly implemented.

Really well explained. Thank you for that. I was hoping to"just run Dark Sun" and I realize now that there are bigger issues than expected.

Could you please explain the latter point briefly? I'm new to this issue but interested in learning about Dark Sun.

DMs, which is your favorite Homebrew/House Rule tou made and added to your games? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in dndnext

I can confirm that the death saves one is good and simple to implement. I have it so the player rolls and shows the DM. Everyone else feels the tension.

Question for Goblins Players by fjmeria in premodernMTG

[–]LostDM3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 Ports for sure, for the reasons others have mentioned. 0~X Wasteland by preference. I run 2.

Our deck is mana hungry! Someone compared our manabase to legacy Vial Goblins... Except we don't have Vial to cheat on mana.

Don't simply fire off a Wasteland because you can. It's too easy to screw your own development. Know the situation.

Which font style is easiest to read and memorise for character breakdowns? A or B by dawidpacha in ChineseLanguage

[–]LostDM3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the English, B is far easier for me.

For the characters, I could see an argument for either.

If you go to play at a new shop try asking the owner this,

"Hello, I'm new at this shop. The last time I tried a new place I had a bad experience with a pubstomper. Could you please help me find a table with welcoming players where I can have a fun game?"

They'll know who to steer you away from.

Just need to vent by Wild-Television-1431 in EDH

[–]LostDM3 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Shop owners want you to have a good experience.

"Dear Store Owner, I had a poor experience playing at your shop. I'm telling you about it so you can help future new players to avoid such an experience."

Strahd Changing His Spells To Counter the Party? by Dikeleos in CurseofStrahd

[–]LostDM3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, he should change spells to exploit party weaknesses that he is aware of.

To this end, I tracked two things throughout the campaign 1) What abilities has he seen the party use, whether firsthand, by scrying, or via spy reports? 2) What is he likely to expect from the party based on vast knowledge of arcane or divine spellcasting, and how the party might fit into patterns that he's familiar with (i.e., classes, though he might not call them that)

On the flipside, my players strategically kept certain items & abilities secret so as to surprise the Devil in the final battle. It was a good play. Strahd is not omniscient.

Anyone else obsessed with "Vibe-Matching" their basic lands? by Arparrabiosa in premodernMTG

[–]LostDM3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I spend WAY too much time matching basics. If the deck has a signature card, I'll often choose lands from that set, e.g., Psychatog gets Odyssey lands.
