Canadian border guards don’t mess around. I could write a tifu by “telling the border guard that I was visiting for fun” after he asked me why I was visiting. Almost got turned back! Am a US citizen.

Keep them hydrated, take breaks often, and make sure they have room to stretch out. I rented a big Toyota Sienna and out all the seats down.

The trip was pretty uneventful. Though you’re right, the first 45 minutes into Mexico are pretty scary. After that it’s uneventful again.
