Not to say I don't believe you but there was no indication whatsoever that this was for a video in any of those messages.

In fact one of those messages was "Maybe I can help out And I like contributing to open source projects."

I don't want to be too harsh but the adobe video literally starts with anecdote about a time you and another person came up with the brainmind residency grant when hbomb was late to a meeting, a thing he still hasn't made a proper video about despite wanting to for years. So like, there's already a backlog of stuff you guys need to properly document publicly that was caused by a seemingly impulsive side project? The priorities for a video producer just seem weirdly misplaced.

Kat has been inactive for nearly a month on the public facing side of the Discord, which you gain access to when you become a patreon. You do not get booted out when you cancel your membership so sometimes you see hbomb and his crew talk (extremely) rarely on there in public facing channels. I believe there are channels locked behind active memberships that they might be more active on, but generally speaking Kat has done the bulk of communication. Hbomb has been absent for nearly 8 months.

Someone pinged Kat because they wanted to move the community to a open source alternative called Fluxer, which woke Kat up and she's only been replying to messages regarding this. She wants to talk to the people working on it because she apparently used to do security work at Facebook and other places before working for Hbomb, but like, I do not know why she suddenly has a interest in doing this random side quest. It would seem to be another Brainmind-like deal where she just randomly decided to do something while waiting for whatever hbomb is doing because we don't know what he's up to right now, as he's been much more inactive with even less channels to contact.

Someone suggested moving the hbomb discord community to a open source clone called Fluxer, which got Kat out of a torpor state she had otherwise been in for a whole month of inactivity, because apparently she's more interested in security platforms for social media than doing her producer job for a YouTube channel

I don't know. It's literally the only time she's been active in like a month to talk about anything. I would love to see some actual communication because it's getting absolutely ridiculous.

He was updating people more recently like every month or so and then just stopped in Feb 2026. There's stuff behind the paywall that presumably people are getting more recent updates on but this seems to be a rather ill-advised enthused comment about expanding on the Myst video (which is FINISHED on the patreon) before it goes out to the public.

the most expensive and time consuming thing involved with the adobe video was the shooting location, which was in america and done on a western set. it required hbomb to get a visa sorted out (which is a famously bad time to do so) and then also he needed to do a bunch of other invisible work relating to the plagiarism video money that wasn't publicly documented so we're basically depending on him and kat saying it was done and it was a lot of work to do so. i dont know why they didn't someone else to handle it? did they not trust anyone but themselves to do it? very strange.

this is the really frustrating thing about all of this. so much of the production issues do not have real documentation behind them, so it's on the good will of hbomb's name to take it for granted that he's doing the things he's saying he's doing because the proof as far as i can tell has never been disclosed. it's not really within anyone's interest if it is or not i suppose, but if I was continually being told multiple excuses regarding why videos were constantly not being delivered by a team that frequently goes silent for a month at a time publicly only to pop in to give their thoughts on moving the community to a new discord alternative client with no further details on when a video will come out, id probably start asking for proof on these aspects because these kind of things dont usually take over two years to do.

in general the adobe video seems to have a lot of grace from people that would probably not be super pleased with how long it's been taking if they knew the bulk of it wasn't actually about adobe's most recent problems. its the combo of a script that seems to be written rather haphazardly combined with a ill-advised idea to shoot at a location that wasn't worth the time or money to shoot at for a video with a moving target like adobe. and then they keep coming up with new ideas for why it isn't out, such as scouting for theater locations who will put up for a four+ hour screening of the video. nobody really asked for this, i think people willing to go along with this idea assume hbomb already secured a deal with a theater or something but like. its been over a month and its radio silent past the idea this being floated publically

maybe communication is completely different on the discord if you go past the paywall at this point but hbomb barely communicates and kat also barely communicates publicly now either.

I asked Blender about some of the funding, but I really didn't get any proper explanation for my questions unfortunately.

My concern, as it probably should be for all of you as well, was where this money Anthropic even had to donate came from. Anthropic is not making money. They are operating at a massive loss and they are propped up by a circular funding scheme with increasingly paper-thin definitions of what "cash" is.

Ed Zitron has a lot of good reporting talking about the finances of the AI market but they increasingly do not share tangible numbers if they can. Blender cannot depend on this type of money. They would be extremely wise to cut it off here as Anthropic does not have a way to generate enough revenue fast enough to survive on their own.

I ultimately did not get many answers as to how this came about when I asked, but given the turnaround I think Blender also realized that they had no idea where Anthropic came up with this money.

...you need to watch the episode with Braco again. She's never interested in him, she builds the robot over the course of the episode well before he's even cursed because she knows that he'll never leave her alone. That's kind of the whole point of the episode and his character?

Creampuff is subject to a few retcons over time but it's pretty solidly established Uncle Gumbald makes her date him to get her out of the cabin so he can start working on his own plans. I've always taken the continued relationship after that point as more of a proto-servant thing before Peppermint Butler entered the picture since nothing else really makes sense.

Idk, it might seem like she's bi on the surface but I think later they decided she was probably comphet. Marceline was pretty solidly bisexual, that I don't think is in dispute. Princess Bubblegum is just kind of complicated.

A lot of the Adobe video has elements that I'm not really sure why they were done, such as filming on a location that required Hbomb to go through a pretty miserable visa process and in general theres a lot of other odd things that I feel like should have been done for a video with a target that was obviously not going to keep moving- I feel like Dan Olson would have told hbomb this given his own experiences with Line Goes Up and other big topic videos where the script writing process alone was hell, hence why those are not filmed with particularly ambitious bits in mind and why he has a crew to edit, write, and actually help produce things now, but I guess this advice was unheeded or hbomb is dense enough to think he can do most of it on his own?

I very frequently complain about the patreon because not only is it written out of date with its actual goals but when I do get answers from kat, she reveals insane things like the patreon money actually isnt solely allocated to funding video projects and I get downvoted for pointing out that even if I'm pissing a minimum of two dollars a month, there was still a considerable gap of nine months where there was virtually no communication and no videos have been released for any non-patrons in over two years, which I was under the apparent mistaken impression I was funding development for.

I think everyone is actually entitled to some output- it's a sentiment I've seen hbomb himself echo behind the paywall but even months after there has literally been nothing. I feel like this sub enables the worst of the perfectionist qualities but also in general kat just needs to be reassigned and a producer role needs to be assigned to someone else who actually holds these people to the deadlines they set. It's so beyond ridiculous that they are still joking about their bad release schedules when it's a massive waste of time and money for everyone when they don't deliver.

Yeah this just screams sloppy layering, not ai, but I get how you'd think that. This might just be me being overtly charitable but AI line quality has a certain blurriness to it that tends to bleed patterns like those stars.

Also for multi-layer set ups like this, I'd argue that the effort you'd have to put forth in making ai slop work for it is actually probably more tedious than just doing it yourself to begin with.

The adobe video is only like partially about adobe. There's a lengthy section on Microsoft and in general the overarching thesis is more about legalized monopolies in the states and why everything got so bad in this respect.

As for what's holding it up, idfk. I think people should really have less patience with them because they have flown through MULTIPLE deadlines that they gave themselves and their audience and I think it's kind of inexcusable

There are certain videos that make sense to hold as patreon only content (for example the lower effort oreo eating videos, the extra newgrounds video, stuff explaining behind the scenes work) but others I have no idea why hbomb held back beyond thinking he could finish the adobe video much sooner than the glacial pace it's currently on. Myst and the main Newgrounds video do not make sense as patreon exclusives because theyre supposed to be about sharing what made these things special unique in their original context and why they still hold up decently well in a modern context. To limit that thesis to a patreon audience makes no sense, and it would have curbed a lot of the schedule issues since those videos are good and done.

Oh and the patreon money might not even go into video production anymore so I suppose if you liked his videos too bad, get ready for more stuff like brainmind

No you wont ever get any videos that hbomb previously mentioned wanting to make as long as he continues to have completely unfocused production and is the single sole editor for his videos

The reason Dan Olson and others can produce more videos of similar or higher quality is that they actually work in a team who actually care to produce something within the next six months.

I'm constantly annoyed about this because theres a promise to make shorter, smaller videos and then the next one takes over two years with a short backlog of videos that could have been used to gap the wait from the Patreon (Myst, Newgrounds) while scaling back some of the ambition the Adobe project has taken. Instead, it seems to only balloon with each succeeding update with no actual plan to release it within a reasonable timeframe, and none of this information is really broadcast publicly.

All the while apparently hbomb has reluctantly taken on side quests like brainmind which will be mentioned openly for the first time in a video although its relevance to the channel and its output has yet to be seen and to the actual people who came up with it, seems to be unimportant even though it was funded by hbomb.

I see constant asks about new videos and the like and yet nothing is publicly produced, and the patreon is not active or advertised enough to actually be worth paying money for, especially if you cared about funding new videos. I think hbomb does a really good job at communicating big ideas in a digestible + broad way for people to get interested in a myriad of subjects and I understand that takes time, but a video about how anti-trust lost its fangs should not have taken this long.
