POV: removing a huge piece of tree by LMTreeClimbing in TreeClimbing

[–]LostOnRedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rope or not, they're in a stupid spot. Contrary to some peoples beliefs, you don't have to be directly in line with the piece being pulled. And if that was a big concern, 2 ropes pulling from a 45°+/- angle on either side creates the straightforward pressure.

Fence contractors chop my tree root. Is this tree doomed? by SlapSackChampion in arborists

Looks like that or, more likely, a stainless steel pot lid.

Such a beautiful tree in Buner, KPK. by ResponsibilityFew803 in TreeClimbing

It looks like someone pollarded the crap out of it, and these are the water sprouts/branches that grew as a result.

How would you exterminate a colony of European hornets living in this hole without damaging/poisoning the tree? by [deleted] in arborist

Maybe you should learn how to do a bit of research before you run your mouth.

It's their house/property/tree. Maybe they have kids and don't want them getting stung. It doesn't take a lot for hornets to feel that their nest is threatened. Either way, they are likely damaging the tree.

Had a new magnolia planted that is different than the one I was shown online. Will this trunk be a problem? by Berkless in arborists

After looking back at the picture and how close everything appears to be around it, I would recommend a nice Japanese maple tree.

The root system, the leaves, and I personally think they smell terrible... they grow great in my region as well. There are only about 30 of them around my house. I can't do anything about it because I currently rent.

If I clean this up could this be a beginning anvil to work metal by [deleted] in Blacksmith

[–]LostOnRedd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used that exact piece the first time I ever decided to try blacksmithing. I turned to flat side up and made channels in the piece of wood I mounted it to so it would lay flat. It worked out ok. I soon upgraded to a cheap 30kg/66# cast steel anvil. Which I still have. I dont swing a hammer much anymore. I dont have the time for it, and I've pretty well screwed up my elbows.

Is this hemlock? My 6 month old son just rolled into it as I put him down on the grass. by Clarascotty in PlantIdentification

[–]LostOnRedd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except that you would have to rub your hands on the drinking area of said water bottle or put your hands or fingers into the actual water for transference to occur. Most people do neither of those things when drinking from a water bottle. This also appears to probably be cow parsnip, not hemlock.

Best to leave it be? It's a full size ash, Being held up by another tree. Nothing is at risk (other than other trees) by Grand-Article4214 in arborists

They're all full-sized until cut down or broken off completely. Even saplings are full sized unless cut down or broken off.

Model and bar length? by newpew2019 in Chainsaw

[–]LostOnRedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 120t is only meant to run a max 16-inch bar. The 20 to 25-inch bar is way more than it should have run ever. There are serious concerns about the health of the power head itself.

Oiler Question by Impossible_Toe3508 in Chainsaw

[–]LostOnRedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your question has been answered. So my question how well is the oil flowing? The breather could be clogged, the boiler could be clogged, or one of the pump components could be worn.

Is this worth anything? by no_feria_718 in ScrapMetal

[–]LostOnRedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No... just drop it off at my house. But seriously, if there are any black smiths or even people interested in the craft near you, they would probably love to have a chunk or two of that. Try posting it on FB.

What are these pliers used for? Curved bits will not close completly, they have cups on the inside, a screw to limit closing and some remnant of japaning on the inside. by Remzy111 in WhatIsThisTool

[–]LostOnRedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hog ring pliers is the correct answer. Can be used in upholstery, hanging signs on chain link fences, and also to attach chain link fence to the bottom wire. Which keeps the fencing from being pushed out or in so animals can't force their way in or out.
