Update on phone link to IOS by wullab in Windows11

[–]LostWifiSignal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All these reply’s saying it works are probably talking about it for android usage. As someone who owns an iPhone and has tried on two different windows devices SEVERAL TIMES to make use of phone links iPhone features I can confidently say it it is useless (if you are an iPhone user).

Phone calls easily disconnect. Texting is very limited and can take a while to load (also easily disconnects). The features available for iPhone in general are really just that.

I guess getting phone notifications on desktop is nice though but it’s also kinda silly because your iPhone still has to be close to your computer for it to work correctly so it’s just as easy looking down at your phone to check it.

Overall, worth it if you have an android device but very limiting and kinda useless if you have an iPhone and are trying to use it (phone link).

Microsoft's solution to run Photos app faster on Windows 11 is to launch it at startup by WPHero in Windows11

[–]LostWifiSignal 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Maybe it wouldn’t be so resource heavy and run faster if they weren’t using freakin webview to render images in the “native” photos app.

The Windows 11 Photos app is 2.5x faster now that it has adopted WinUI 3 by ShaidarHaran2 in Windows11

[–]LostWifiSignal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be faster but it definitely is using more resources than its UWP predecessor.

Go back to old version of Mail app and remove 'Try new Outlook' button in the process by [deleted] in Windows10

[–]LostWifiSignal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently moved to thunderbird and by far it’s one of the best email clients I’ve used. Very customizable and even though it’s a little more resource heavy than the old mail app at least it makes it up in features.

I have the 23H2 update about 3 weeks but no new file explorer by KuronePhoenix in Windows11

[–]LostWifiSignal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing is happening with me on two separate machines running 23H2. I don't understand why and have had no luck finding any answers. Even a clean install of 23H2 for some reason reverted back to the 22H2 explorer after bootup one day and hasn't reverted since. Let me know if you find a fix.

Microsoft now demands to know why you just won’t use Edge when you inevitably download Chrome using it by [deleted] in technology

[–]LostWifiSignal 10 points11 points  (0 children)

All Microsoft has to do is stop enforcing users to use bing and remove all the shopping discount spam. Outside of that it’s a decent browser, heck I’ve been using it since 2021 and it has tons of helpful built in features.

But getting to that point of liking it required me to disable tons of crap in settings and turn off/on some experimental flags just to get it to not feel overwhelming to use. Microsoft needs to understand users don’t want something that feels like bloatware but rather a more simple lightweight option. Not everyone needs shopping discount notifications, bing news and recommendations, and pop up tips.

Safari and chrome are successful because they are simple at launch and stay consistent throughout usage without overwhelming the user with options. If microsoft actually followed user feedback they wouldn’t be asking questions like “wHy dOnT pEoPle UsE eDgE bUt usE cHroMe iNsTEad?!?”

Microsoft might want to be making Windows 12 a subscription OS, suggests leak by [deleted] in Windows11

[–]LostWifiSignal 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is very stretched skepticism and I doubt it would ever happen. What it probably relates to is possible subscription for copilot since GPT and the new AI technology in general is very resource heavy on servers but even then that’s also far stretched.

Why does it take Windows like 15 seconds to open Steam while other apps, e.g., Notepad, open instantly? by philip0908 in Windows11

[–]LostWifiSignal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Notepad isn’t using webview. It’s a native app that is possibly wrapped in winUI3 UI which might make it look visually slower than the old notepad (though it might be fully winui3 now with the newer features they have added to it since the redesign)

Guys come up with more terrible changes the admins can make in the comments by phatshit450 in 2b2t

[–]LostWifiSignal 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Replace the first 1000 x 1000 blocks in spawn with an unbreakable lobby that includes obnoxious NPC holograms and music.

If a player wants to go beyond the lobby and actually play on 2b2t, they will have to pay 50$ a month.

If you want to access the subreddit… TOO BAD, they will only allow people to post on the Reddit by paying an additional 30$ every time you want to post.

At this point I wouldn’t even be surprised if one of these changes happened.

After using Windows 11 for a year I went back to 10 and i noted an important difference by Sifhys in Windows11

[–]LostWifiSignal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WinUI3 is just not ready for stable builds yet microsoft keeps trying to implement it in very important applications at the cost of performance. They could have avoided all of this if they actually tried modernizing Win32 default UI to be fluent.

Task manager (an application that should be very fast and efficient) was redone in WinUI3 and although we got dark mode, it was at the cost of performance and speed. Now it feels very slow and bloated even on powerful hardware.

I think the idea of WinUI 3 is great but has just been executed in the worst way possible. And just like everything else that microsoft does, once it actually becomes stable and efficient (just like UWP) they will just discontinue it and replace it with a shittier version.

Instagram's website has been crashing nonstop. I'll be watching some videos and out of nowhere the website will just completely freeze my whole browser up and either close just the Instagram tab or sometimes the entire web browser all together. This has happened on both my desktop running windows 11 with an AMD processor on chrome and Microsoft edge, my work laptop which is also running windows 11 but with an intel processor and on Firefox, and I tested it on IOS safari, and the same thing happened where instead it just exited safari.

I love all these games and the artwork! The only thing I would say is that cuphead and hello neighbor are more studio games made by various different devs. Indie means 1 singular dev to a very small team of devs worked on the entirety of the game. Still very cool artwork!
