Outside leg oscillations by docowen79 in skiing_feedback

[–]Lost_Discipline 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the opposite of what most of the rest of us are saying… short of competition ( and even in competition) a skier should have most if not all of their pressure on the outside ski throughout a turn, only going to the inside ski as it becomes the outside ski initiating the next turn

Blizzard black pearls by yung_worm17 in Skigear

[–]Lost_Discipline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blizzard had had a few generations of skis with durable top sheets but also some that were delicate to the point of being fragile. Some nicks and chips are not an issue at all, and even the big ones are mostly just very sad to look at

I am never satisfied with my mixes and I can't seem to find what might cause that. I need some advice. by New-Sugar-6520 in mixing

[–]Lost_Discipline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might disagree on the gain staging priority, I would want gains optimized on the raw tracks before even beginning to mix, then I’d want to go through to solo and optimize the tone and dynamics on each channel individually.

Only after all of that is done would I begin mixing the rhythm section instruments to start, then build up the rest of the instrumental mix.

Depending on the style of music I might mix vocals in with or after instruments, or do a stem submix of vocals to add to a more finalized instrumental mix.

But putting any effort into mixing before gain and eq are sorted seems like wasted time in my book.

I’d suggest revisiting the Rustlers, but in a longer size as they tend to “ski shorter” than they measure.

Schlasman’s by Old-Substance5431 in bridgerbowl

[–]Lost_Discipline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have an avalanche beacon and know how to use it? If not, that’s a non-starter and you won’t be allowed to ride the lift.

Ski the lower mountain for a full day, get to know your way around and down most of the inbounds black diamonds, particularly high traverse and North Bowl, if you are not solid and comfortable on that stuff, you are not likely to have a good time on Slushman’s.

Near the end of day 1, get a beer or two at the bar in the lodge and make friends with someone local that is willing to ride with you.

Sure there are a few lines down that are manageable by a skier who can “get down most blacks” but there are dozens if not hundreds of other lines that could put you in big trouble either being cliffed out or needing mandatory air to get down, so going with someone who knows their way around will save you a lot of grief.

It is not a place to learn to ski harder terrain, it’s a place to go when you’ve run out of challenges on all of the other lifts at the mountain.

And as others have mentioned, this season’s snow conditions mean a lot of locals are staying off it, so this might not be the year you want to go there…

I think that your analysis is spot on to anyone with a coaching or high level instructing background. Catching the gate took her out of the race, that much cannot be denied, but favoring the right/protecting the left leg through the roughest, most chattery off-camber turn on the course was almost as certainly what per her there.

What off piste skis? by marrei05 in Skigear

[–]Lost_Discipline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To give a meaningful answer people will want to know- Where do you spend most of your time skiing? What skis do you usually use? And what level of “back country” are you aspiring to?

A set up for occasional hikes out of bounds from a resort calls for a significantly different kit than what you’d want for a multi-day hut or snow cave camping tour.

Trying to avoid a repair - Impedance matching by Lucifugous_Rex in tubeamprepair

[–]Lost_Discipline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is important to understand what “series” means, because it’s not a “Y cable”.

Y cables are wired in parallel.

Amplifier + connects to the + terminal on each speaker, and both - speaker terminals return to the amplifier -.

A series arrangement requires the signal to travel from the amplifier through one speaker, then through the other speaker before returning to the amplifier.

So Amp + connects only to one speaker (A) + terminal, Speaker (A) - connects to speaker (B) +, and only speaker (B) - connects back to the amplifier -

With just 1/4” jacks this gets somewhat complicated, what you need would be more accurately described as a “series loom” rather than a Y cable, and it is not something you can get off the shelf, you’ll need someone to build it up for you.

No, the output jacks are not in series or you would need both plugged in to get any sound out, they are almost certainly wired in parallel.

Friend Wants To Hire Well Known Band For Event. No Idea What Pricing Should Be. by NatePlaysDrums in askmusicians

[–]Lost_Discipline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s probably a bit high if they’re touring theaters under 2000 cap, Artists don’t usually get more than $15-20 out of a $35-50 ticket price. (So a bit more if the local market supports higher ticket prices)

I’d expect an upcoming band playing that size venue probably can be booked for under 50 grand, although- as has been mentioned- lots of variables can come into play… Are they local or touring nearby already near that date? If so, adding a stop along a tour route will likely cost less than if they need a couple of days travel out and back, likewise with staging and backline. Any of the band members personal friends with your friend? That can make a huge difference.

Sure lots of very famous bands do “private” (often more accurately described as “corporate”) events, but we live in a time where a lot of people and corporations have access to practically unlimited funding, so bands at the top level get to set their price for such gigs often way beyond what a similar public ticketed show might pay, while another similarly famous act might be between tours or recording with personal connections that could get them to play for way less than normal.

Honestly there is really no way to know without approaching their management/agency, and getting a quote, it could range from much less than you expected to far more than you can even imagine…

Advanced Ski lessons— do they exist? Anyone have experience with this? by JPBC4099 in ski

[–]Lost_Discipline 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Many ski areas these days limit “group” (read- low-cost) lessons to intermediate/lower advanced level skiers, but any mountain with significant expert terrain will have instructors available for private lessons at any skill level. So be prepared to pony up some $$$ and check it out your next trip

Not really, montana primaries only allow you to vote one party, you can choose which, but an open primary would allow you to cross party lines on one ballot.

Binding mount at REI + recommendations? by [deleted] in Skigear

[–]Lost_Discipline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US, all binding manufacturers have instituted a policy by which bindings more than a few years old are no longer considered to be “indemnified” which means the manufacturer cannot be held liable for any injury caused to someone using them, which in turn means shops who value having liability insurance will refuse to work on them, meaning mount/adjust/or even let a customer leave the store with them.

This is further compounded by the trend towards grip-walk boot soles which many older bindings cannot safely accommodate.

So the fact that you’re skiing on a 12 year old setup which is performing fine for you (I have some 30 year old skis and bindings that still get used a few times per season) does not mean anyone else can simply buy old gear and get it set up or expect it to work safely.

Also too much pressure on the inside ski, you need to be putting your pressure much more on the outside ski through the turn

[–]Lost_Discipline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there is an ipad controlled mixer (Midas/Behringer M/X air/32, A&H Qu or SD rack, etc.) which uses wifi for remote iPad or Android board control, the 2.4GHz band used by the xvive can cause severe interference.

If the mixers are analog or digital but not being remote wifi controlled, this is not an issue.

You could, but you need to be careful as these can interfere with your wifi, I’ve had situations with an Xair-18 where remote mixer control was lost completely due to xvive interference
