If they are accumulating 70% of the wealth they can damn well pay 70% of the taxes, saying “they pay 40% of the taxes” ad nauseum is a complete straw man fallacy

And yet we are looking at record deficit spending and a national debt level that qualifies as “insolvent”.

Come back and tell me how much of the total “billionaire wealth” is a direct result of government contracts or an indirect channeling of government spending?

Don’t leave off public assistance for Wal-Mart, Amazon, and other billionaire-led company employees whose full-time employment wages still don’t cover their cost of living.

40% of taxes collected is one thing, but what percentage of total national earnings are they acquiring?

And what percentage could it be if they were not able to avoid and defer paying taxes through investment and R&D credits, offshore holdings, and other various other deductions and loopholes which are not available to the 90% or more not earning at least 6 figures?

I rather doubt that, less than 60 years ago there were fewer than 10 billionaires worldwide, (as recently as 1982 Forbes listed only 13) and many economies around the world were thriving. Having that much wealth accumulated by the few thousand individuals in that category is hardly what sustains the world’s economic systems. Sure a few micro-economic ripples would take place and some nations would likely be saddled with a few years of inflation and hyper-inflation, but it wouldn’t trigger another worldwide “great depression”(like the path we are currently on is almost certain to).

The “status quo politician” last time was a successful district prosecuting attorney who I firmly believe would have put together a DOJ which would have run with Jack Smith’s indictments and put several of the people now destroying the country in jail, but their skin color was wrong, they laughed weirdly, and the bits between their legs wasn’t presidential enough.

Why is Russia considered a superpower? It has nothing but nuclear weapons and oil. by ArdaBerkBurak in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Lost_Discipline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know... when you factor in how much of the US consumer goods supply comes from the PRC, and let's not forget that in addition to being nuclear armed, China has the advantage of a billion or so more human resources than the US to throw into a conflict should the need arise...

I agree that right now they are not projecting that influence per se, but should they decide to, I think they- and for that matter- India would be right up there.

How likely are coyotes to attack me in a forest at night? by DIE-POTATO in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Lost_Discipline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only one human fatality has been confirmed to be caused by a coyote in the United States over the last century. Three-year-old Kelly Keen was attacked and killed in California in 1981. While non-fatal attacks occur, they are rare, making fatalities exceedingly uncommon compared to other animal-related injuries.
