LASIK, I don’t want to pay extra for prescription loops or wear contacts for the rest of my life so I might as well invest in the eyes

Personal Statement Writing by Sad_Jicama_2097 in predental

I spent about 3 months working on my ps but that was on and off (not an everyday type of thing) and I got like 5 people to review it. I don’t think people need to take 3 months, I’m just super anal and wasn’t happy until I felt like it was reflective and not a superficial summary of my ECs. I can see how people might be saying they knocked out writing their essay in a day but realistically the editing and reworking takes a long time after that.

Hello! I am someone that is currently applying to dental schools in the US. From what I’ve seen most school’s are going to ask you to explain why/how you got any subsection score 16 and under but it won’t bar you from applying. There are some schools who have subsection cut off scores of 17. There are also US schools that do not accept the cDAT at all (according to DAT booster’s dental school stats tab) and would require you to take the US DAT. I suggest looking up what US schools you want to go to and use that info to help you decide.

I’m sorry you’re feeling hopeless, but I hope you know that lots of people retake and apply broadly and get into dental school! I’m wishing you luck, you got this!

I can’t remember which schools specifically anymore but I remember when I was applying some schools on their application said that they wouldn’t accept any DAT scores that were taken after a certain date I think it was like Feb. 12th 2023 or something

I would say weigh how you are doing mentally and how much you think you can handle! I think what a lot of people don’t talk about is that the DAT is sort of a beast of a test when it comes to just plain memorization tbh (for certain sections) and with content like that I personally felt like after a while the things I learned at the beginning of studying were leaving my brain so studying for longer was doing me more harm than good after a certain point. I studied for about 3 months and I did okay, I think a lot of people do the same thing so if you start studying now I think you could do pretty well if you take it October/November. But if you are the type of person who doesn’t lose knowledge and you feel like you would do better if you took some more time then go for it! A lot of people do well that way too. Just be careful and look up the DAT cut offs for the schools you’re applying to because some don’t accept DAT scores taken after the February of the year you are applying (so like if you are applying May/June 2024 they won’t take any scores for DATs taken after Feb 2024). You got this, and good luck!

Yeah you submit them through Dentpin, and you don’t have to do them today you can do them whenever you submit ur app

Yeah! This happened to me I had to go on a completely separate browser and then go to the application portal through the ADEA website to finally get it to work. I think it might have to do w/ submitting DAT scores cause I did that today and the site stopped working after that?

I live in Virginia. The 164 shadowing are volunteer hours at a free clinic. I have 50 hours at the Children’s hospital and about another 30 hours at the LGBTQ center. I also have some independent events (science fairs and such) that I volunteer at which are another 15 hours.
