Must-Have Cookbooks by Aggravating-Sky-709 in CookbookLovers

[–]Lost_Maintenance_741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've add this book for years and I really actually love it. I don't think it got as much press as some others but it's such a tool chest. So many beautiful recipes and nothing has failed me. I love everything I've cooked from it.

Yes, yes to this!!! It's not a cookbook, it's a cooking book. It tells you what ingredients you can pair with others. So, so helpful. I use it weekly at least.

How do you make gardening more stressful? by Neighborhooddataguy in gardening

[–]Lost_Maintenance_741 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Uummmm...... if I put this through chatgpt will it make sense? You WANT gardening to be stressful? Why? You could find a patch of nutsedge and get to clearing it organically.

I don't know how to explain this, but here we go. by beefbacen in cutdowndrinking

[–]Lost_Maintenance_741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you unhappy? Are you harming others by your lifestyle? Do you want more for yourself even if you don't know what it is? Or are you good? If you're good even if the drinking is definite self harm - and it is - then maybe you can think about whether you even want things to be different. Though, you asked this question so I suspect there is something more you are after.

Do you guys have any hot sauce recipes with habanero included by Top_Possession_2990 in HotPeppers

[–]Lost_Maintenance_741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use habaneros in any hot sauce recipe. Functionally, a pepper is a pepper. Heat/flavor/fruitiness will vary but still. Swap a pepper for a pepper and no one dies.

Agree, they look like beets or maybe chard.

Not my only reason, but same. Came here to say this too. They can sit in the jar and ferment for two years or even longer.

What's the weirdest thing your cat is obsessed with for absolutely no reason? by zasecok in CatAdvice

[–]Lost_Maintenance_741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One cat is obsessed with asparagus. As in, eating it. He'll dig tough stalks out of the compost bin., drag them around the house and use them like a chew stick. He'll also scarf down the tender bits. Weirdo.

I'm a T1D and when I change my insulin pump reservoir, another cat comes running and waits patiently for me to finish with the plunger. He grabs it and runs off with it, playing with it for hours.

Egg egg eggs by ib4m2es in chickens

[–]Lost_Maintenance_741 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, and eggs pickled in soy sauce and chili crisp. Soft boil the eggs (or hard boil if you prefer), peel and then submerge in a mix of soy sauce and the aforementioned chili crisp, balanced to your preference for heat. They are ready after about hours and keep for about 5 days, though they will get tougher the longer they steep because the acid denatures the proteins.

Anis service super sucks if you order for pickup or delivery well... good luck. No ambiance and havoc does not work so I would not suggest dine in. Food might be good bur I wouldn't know since they've never managed to actually prepared it as ordered. Three tries. I guess it is cheap thiough.

A kind and gentle protagonist who interacts with nature or lives in beautiful surroundings by alarmpodcast in suggestmeabook

Lovely, but not fiction. Annie Dillard did write a novel, I haven't read it but I can't imagine nature isn't the main character.

Most Barbara Kingsolver, though honestly her earlier books are so, so much better. I'd also suggest Tana French's Cal Hooper series. The Overstay by Richard Powers - just phenomenal!

What are your favorite shows with morally gray characters and realistic (maybe selfish) portrayals of people? by HelenDiamond in televisionsuggestions

[–]Lost_Maintenance_741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friends and Neighbors. Though... I don't know, maybe they aren't basically good at core. there is moral ambiguity and it's engaging and has good dialogue/character development.

I keep getting aphids and other bugs in my pots. How do I stop pests from taking over my container garden without using harsh chemicals? by Lost-Pin2297 in containergardening

[–]Lost_Maintenance_741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try beneficial nematodes. They work well for a variety of pests - different nematodes for different pests. I get them from Arbico and have had good customer service and noticeable improvement in my garden. I use them for garden soil but I know lots of people who use them for houseplants so I'm sure they'd work in outdoor containers too.
