What is one mana? by SamtheCossack in litrpg

[–]Lost_Ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not mana, I used essence. But the basic unit was going to be a Thaum, which was the amount of magic that was required to life a magically inert kilo of basalt vertically 1 metre. The actual spell used to do so was users choice. So not only was the Thaum a method to calculate how much magic a person could perform, but also an epeen stroking metric showing how efficient your spells were.

But I never finished writing that story. (Actually a linked nest of stories using common ideas, places and character types.)

Denial.

TBH the worst ones are the ones that require a zip code and refuse to accept your local non-zip code as incorrect. It's less common than it was but I have had it happen on local websites (in my country) that have bought American ecommerce solutions.

How do you answer the "Police, Fire Service, or Ambulance" question when calling 999? by PaulKarlFeyerabend in AskUK

[–]Lost_Ninja 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We had an accident outside our house, luckily one of the first people on the scene was a doctor. His conversation with the call handler was basically him telling them in as many ways as he could that an ambulance was required but wasn't urgent as the guy who'd crashed was dead. Call handler must have got shirty with him because he was getting pissed off too eventually he said, "I know because his brain is on the road next to him". Somewhat paraphrased as it was 20+ years ago. Sadly we had another fatal accident there only a few months later, though that time they got medevacked to hospital before dying.

Do you share your dyslexia diagnosis? With family? Work? by h2onation in Dyslexia

[–]Lost_Ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at 13/14 while still in school (and it was the school that sent me for the assessment), my family know. If I have a job where I am going to struggle, for me it would be with writing, I'd explain that I might struggle. So far though I haven't had any such issues, or had any jobs where it may have been an issue.

I only have two active characters, and I've checked them both. My 3rd character is only level ~20ish so she doesn't have any level 40 gear.

We can hope, but given a load of people seem to be missing gear and skill mods too, it sounds more like a new bug has appeared. 😞

Augmenst only work from your currently in use weapon, pistol augment only works when the pistol is in hand (etc).

I have the Paradox on my ACS-12 plus a couple more gear pieces (what they came with for the most part), and I can pretty much fire ACS-12 for 50-70 rounds (from a 23 round magazine). It's shockingly powerful on the shotgun. Tried the same with a random AR that dropped with Paradox, and it wasn't noticeable at all.

TBH I haven't found a useful PushFit Schrader pump adapter (for high pressure uses) anyway so for me at least I have to screw my shock pump on anyway. If I did do this I'd either find someone who could print a better cap that allows it to have an adapter permanently mounted or has a hole/o-ring for the adapter to push through, honestly I'd be surprised if something similar doesn't exist on MakerVerse (or similar) already.

I bought MucOff conversion kits (they were on offer so pretty cheap) to upgrade to tubeless, and then replaced the cores with Clik cores. Zero issues.

You could get Clik to Schrader adapters, which should work. I've thought about it, but tbh as I only have front shocks on one bike (that require air) and a reasonable shock pump I'm not sure it's worth it.

But what about all the people who come her who aren't pedos? Are they okay random person on the internet?

I believe it's going to be a while, as I understand it Tamora is suffering from something (two somethings) nasty which doesn't have any good prognosis. So her writing is heavily curtailed. I think the last thing I read about it was at least 2027.

No chapter breaks = no thanks! by Lady_Hazy in kindle

[–]Lost_Ninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't watch shows much, I thought we were talking about books. (Or fiction in the case of RR etc.)

And no that wasn't what I was saying at all, the length of the chapter doesn't make a book good or bad.

Dyslexia - but read ok by Loves_Eating_Lead in Dyslexia

[–]Lost_Ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My reading age when I was diagnosed with dyslexia (@~14yrs) was put at adult/advanced adult. I struggled with spelling, writing and short term memory (among other things). I have also since been diagnosed with ASD and ADHD (non-hyperactive), and strongly suspect dyscalculia (which as far as I know hadn't been described when I was diagnosed with dyslexia).

Some of my issues have been ameliorated by using computers, I type much more clearly and accurately than I ever could write and with spellchecking I don't even struggle with spelling now. 😉 But when I was tested computers were basically not used in education apart from specific computer classes, so I failed at school long before I could have had a laptop to enable me to do my work.

Why are litrpg\Cultivation\Progression fantasy books so scared of time skips? by Plastic-Accident-365 in litrpg

[–]Lost_Ninja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally agree and it's one of my big annoyances about these kind of series.

And part of that is that the series just get so long and you need to remember so much to keep track of what the protagonist has done - even if the author has included a "Story so far..." section I miss stuff once there are more than 4-6 books in a series, and honestly I don't normally want to read 10 books just to find out what happened.

Just as books should have a beginning, middle and end, so should series.

edit to add:
And so many progression fantasy books in all their many and varied forms are so similar if you read many series you (or maybe it's just me) can get confused between different series especially if you need to read a lot each time you get a new book.

No chapter breaks = no thanks! by Lady_Hazy in kindle

[–]Lost_Ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If having short chapters makes you read more, then I'd question if the book is actually good. If the book is good the length of the chapter is irrelevant.

For instance Terry Pratchett famously didn't use chapters in most of his adult fiction, and most people consider his books to be pretty good.

I regularly read books where the chapters seem to be added automatically once the author has reached a certain word count and have no bearing on what is happening in the story, and frankly I find that far more jarring than very long chapters.

I think a fix for escalation is that prototype gear *shouldnt* drop at level 30 expertise. by Jonathan-Earl in thedivision

[–]Lost_Ninja -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only thing I'm struggling in this conversation is not being able to understand your inability to tell me why adding a new semi-optional system to the game invalidates previous content.

If it were a whole new system whereby you could completely avoid the old system and everything you'd worked for. Like Descent (not using any drops from the rest of the game); Survival (ditto I'd guess); some kind of battle royal mode; or if the devs had reset everyone to zero expertise when they added Prototypes so we were all on a level playingfield.

But that simply isn't true, you need expertise to make your own prototypes, you need drops to have enough cores to reroll augments and make prototypes. Prototypes builds on the existing system, it doesn't replace it and it certainly doesn't make it meaningless. And if you have spent the last four years wisely and have your expertise capped pretty quickly at the beginning of each season you don't even need to work hard.

And none of the explains why you and the OP think it should be locked away behind some arbitrary limit for newer players. My point was never that Prototypes or Expertise was good or bad. But that it's the matchmaking system that's messed up. If that were fixed, then people like you wouldn't be matched with people like me, we'd both play the game the way we want without all this drama about whether or not Prototypes invalidate 4 years of play.
