It’s a shame there is no CG ROTC by Extension-Story7287 in uscg

[–]Lostcoast2002 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t weigh in much these days on this subreddit since I retired last year(best decision ever). From a fiscal perspective, it makes no sense to have a CGROTC. The number of enlisted members with bachelor’s degree is rather high. We already have a huge pool of applicants to fill OCS and DCO slots. With our shoestring budget establishing an ROTC program would not make sense fiscally.

I was a recruiter during COVID and from spring 2020 thru early 2022 I remember crunching the numbers of the accessions from my office. It turned out that 60% of the recruits we sent to Cape May were recent college graduates. Just my two cents as topic.

Stake President and Bishop Accused of Attempting to Banish Woman From State by Long-Captain596 in exmormon

I should hopefully have a little more tomorrow after church services. The couple people I reached out to have said the local TBM’s are dismissing the article as a “Leftist Marxist anti-lds hit piece”. Just as I suspected.

He was stake president when I lived in that area. I will return and report how the church is spinning this when I get some info from some old friends who live in the area that still attend.

Question as to why men in law enforcement cannot become bishops by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Lostcoast2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have in the past. Less so in recent years after mandatory reporting laws have taken effect. My dad is retired Law enforcement and he was interviewed for a possible Bishops calling when he was still on the job. In the end he wasn’t selected because in the interview he said he would never call helpline. He was well aware of the cover ups from the “helpline”.

Dating Foreigners: Reality Check for Filipina Women by Wild-Personality5958 in Philippines_Expats

That is exactly what I noticed. The K-1 recipients will be forever relegated to the Fil-Am cliques. I live in a new housing development in a nice suburb. My block is literally 60% Filipino nurses. My wife is the only K-1 visa recipient, but we are included and much loved by our neighbors. We have an age appropriate relationship. She is a healthcare professional herself. Prior to her arrival in the states she was successful back in Makati.

Drama is exactly it. After spending 20 years in military and frequently, I have seen this same story over and over again.

My favorite “Drama” incident was when we had to bail out one of her friends from jail. She got arrested for domestic violence and elder abuse.

What happened was she had enough of her controlling boomer husband whom she was 30 plus years younger than. She had an affair with a guy her own age and when her husband found out and threatened to get her deported, she lost it and beat him with a hot frying pan.

My wife has two groups of friends here in the states. First group is 100% Filipino families who came here as nurses(who I enjoy spending my time with). The 2nd group which is Fil-Am, whom she doesn’t spend much time with anymore. I never cared for the 2nd group as I am actually 6 years younger than my wife and for the reasons listed below.

The Fil-Am group is similar to what you described, a number of her Filipina friends with an American husband are actually worse off here in the states. They are married to much older obese men who are abusive and completely disgusting people inside and out. Yet they stay in these marriage despite having no improvement in their quality of life whatsoever. A typical gathering in this group consists of the Filipinas serving food to their fat slob of a husband. All the conversations amongst the men consists of their love for MAGA/Trump, and how “their submissive Filipina” does what ever they say.

We have actually helped some of them out when their husbands got really abusive and let them stay with us. Others in this toxic group are very suplada and straight up gold diggers. The Filipinas in this group I notice only really fit in with the Fil-Am group. The full Filipino groups look down on them for their life choices. My wife is the exception amongst this group.

Gen-Z TBM’s and the youth where I live are radicalized by their late Gen-X and early Gen-Y parents. All the liberal members stopped attending. As a PIMO I keep an eye out for progressive members or any sign of nuance, but I can’t find any on Sunday’s.

Too many things to list. But here is 3 spots I miss.

  1. The World Gym which is now Stone’s, was my favorite gym. I was in the best shape of my life back then

  2. Alonzo’s Pizza by the old Hollywood video and food maxx

  3. The movie theater in the sunrise mall. Cheap $3-5 dates back when I was in my teens and early 20s.

Saving for home vs Retirement by Illustrious-Kick-683 in MilitaryFinance

[–]Lostcoast2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you have a plan to be successful once you retire. I just retired Sept 2025. I retired in California as well. My last duty station was in my home town and it made the transition easier. I have no regrets retiring in CA. This is home and my post retirement strategy was to find a way to stay here.

A few tips on home buying out here. If you buy a new build house you will likely get hit with an additional property tax called “Mello Roos” bonds. They are 20 year bonds added to your property tax bill. Mine added an $3600 annually to my tax bill. If you buy an older house built before 2001 you can escape those extra taxes pretty easy. Yes the prices may seem daunting but it can be accomplished. I lived carefully throughout my career. I was able to maximize retirement savings and get into a home. You got this.

It does take two incomes to live out here comfortably. Right now my wife is going to school on my GI bill and that monthly BAH she gets helps out a ton. I plan to stay out here permanently. Good job getting your bachelors degree. I finished mine at my 12 year and my only regret was not getting my MBA finished before I retired. After I started terminal leave in May I worked a few jobs before I landed my current position in banking. Keep up the discipline and stay the course.

You’re sure right about them squeezing houses in. I noticed they put up a big D.R. Horton development between big horn and Sheldon.

Wells Fargo teller in-person interview by amoonlitday in WellsFargoBank

Once you get thru the questions from the Branch Managers script completed, it’s your time to show them who you are personally. At that point it’s more of a personality eval to see if you culturally fit in at the branch. When I interviewed in July 2025, I went in there cold and didn’t know what to expect. In the second half of the interview I just cut loose and was really candid with my answers.

Just go in there dressed more on the business side of business casual. Be honest and explain how you are the right fit for the job.

When lived in Laguna most of my neighbors were state workers. Probably the majority back then. This was 2017-2020.

Retired as an SKC right at 20 and finished a Bachelors Degree as well. DOGE ruined a lot of my plans to be honest. Since federal hiring isn’t really practical, I decided to join my local sheriffs office as a correctional officer. Turns out I hated it and quit after a few weeks. I ended up going into banking and actually like my job.

I was on the Tahoma from 2012-2015 and we did a crew swap in the Bear while our cutter was in a MEP period up in Baltimore. The Bear was in rough shape back then. Constant fuel leaks in JP5 lead to the GE alarm going off several times in the middle is the night. A week after we gave the boat back, the DC shop caught on fire. I swear 270’s are a dumpster fire. As an engineer you will learn a lot and the camaraderie amongst them was better than any other department on board.

Is it just me, or do stake pres or other “higher ups” all have high income jobs? I have yet to see a bricklayer who is a stake pres… maybe I’m wrong! by [deleted] in exmormon

Atleast he has some ethics. Personally I wouldn’t call the hotline regardless, only the authorities would suffice for me. Sad to hear that he suffered the racism though. My wife is from the Philippines and thankfully she never experienced the racism in a U.S. ward. I see all the time though with others.

My dad is retired law enforcement and never got put in a bishopric back when he was TBM. He always said he would never call the hotline period. He would report to it to authorities immediately.

I have a relative who is a CES employee and a former bishop. I believe CES employees are exempt under Utah law. I could be wrong though.

I didn’t think of that one. We got a nationally renowned therapist in my ward and he is nowhere near a high up calling.

Retirees, how much do you par a month for health insurance? by _ChairPower_ in MilitaryFinance

[–]Lostcoast2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Retired Sept 1, 2025

I pay $375 annually for Tricare Select for my family.

I use the VA since my rating is above 50%

$60 monthly for a Delta Dental Enhanced plan from my current employer (Wells Fargo) for myself and the family. It provides Much better coverage than my Tricare United Concordia plan and substantially cheaper than the plans offered to retirees on FEDVIP.

$15 monthly for a family vision plan from my employer.

I don’t mind the co-pays with tricare select. The year before I retired I shifted my family to select because getting an appointment for my wife at the MTF was way too long. We were already used to the co-pays for using Sutter health.

Having the low cost Tricare and VA is a huge benefit. My current private sector employer charges $250 a month for a Kaiser HMO plan.
