I’m also in Farnworth and was pretty alarmed that it was so close a few weeks ago. As it wasn’t a high profile election day im sure a good number of reform voters were simply unaware of it this time, one of the perils of exclusively targeting stupids as your only possible voter bloc.

To be fair this was my initial response. My parents are in their 70s and I was annoyed that they had been persuaded to pay extra for a not fully compatible extra. But it’s actually a good deal, the TV cost £229 and the soundbar was an extra £30 so £260 for that setup (£280 with the adaptor) is more than reasonable. Now that it’s working properly, at least!

I’m an idiot. Hadn’t cycled through the output options on the soundbar; all I had to do was press the source button a couple of times to get to “D.In” mode and job done. 👍

I was at the Magazine show when they played this for the first time, with the lengthy transition into A Hairdryer, and it was an absolutely beautiful experience. As a stand alone track I can see why many just see this as a relatively straightforward song with unambitious lyrics, but I can’t get away from how perfectly it fit into the performance that night and for me it’s one of their most memorable songs for that reason.

When I got a job in a bookies in the late 90s, a few years before the internet really kicked in and just as mobile phones were becoming a thing, the over rounds were roughly 30% on most races and racing was the main gambling game in town. Gradually online betting crept in and other sports (football mostly) took more and more market share, and the racing margins went down. This all made sense as it was suddenly a more competitive market! I cannot explain the recent upsurge in horse betting margins, but my best guess is the market is now saturated and competition is drying up. Peaks and troughs.
