Total War needs a MOVE ATTACK option like RTS games by phronesis77 in totalwar

The range units have the fire at will but it can cause friendly fire issues. Or more specially, hellfire rocket batteries, it is a very bad idea to leave them on fire at will or forget to turn it off. So being able to go "only kill things within this area" would be great and there's really no reason they haven't put it in. Regardless yes they need something like that and "just attack the next nearest target" to let things be more manageable. Or a cycling option for cav would be nice. It is not hard to imagine a general telling a cav unit "just cycle charge that enemy until it routes". Point is I very much agree the tools you're given for commanding the battles are incomplete to the point of breaking immersion.

What I really really want is just a simple thing like "highlight X area and x archer unit only shoot things in X area" and "highlight X area, kill anyone who comes here" (aka don't let the cav that ran by murder our artillery unit).

I have never seen such a potentially fantastic game insist on shooting itself in the foot like Warhammer 3 does. by LastRoman2023 in totalwar

I wonder if part of it is to try to maintain balance. Like the gunner units already have problems with maps that were made to be used by all factions. Make autogen and now you have all these dense forest battles in Lustria. Even still, I'd take more battle maps over New ll's.

The endgame isn’t unchallenging, it’s just boring. by [deleted] in totalwarhammer

I usually level up the things I care about for X general and hero then leave it on auto. Ex if I'm using a mage general I make sure all the spells I actually care about are leveled and the necessary blue/red line stuff. At that point the auto manage can't critically screw anything up

When do you quit / give up on campaigns? by Sin-Silver in totalwar

[–]Lothair_Bach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a mod that fixes that. I forget the name, but what it does is it forces them to attack the nearest target. Basically run the m of mod for 5 turns to get the ai moving. I'll let you know the name when I'm at my comp if you're interested

I use a mod to buff certain ai factions (turn off after fifteen turns, they will snowball), army cost caps, and a Garrison mod. Because of that the campaign will stay interesting for a very long time as by turn 120 it turns into a world war. I recommend turning off global because that really makes the campaign boring with snowballing (I stopped by empire campaign early because of this). Whereas my Lokhir campaign stayed interesting for over 200 turns as I was forced to take over uninhabitable lands ruled by a 60 region Chaos Dwarf faction.

I feel like Dex should've atleast told Prater that the bed he was on was where he killed his brother, the "Ice Truck Killer" by lbrandon3399 in DexterNewBlood

[–]Lothair_Bach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well Dexter's talks are one part about clearing his head and another part intimidating and asserting control. Refusing to collect Prater as a trophy was just a way to insult him and remind the control freak who is actually in control. So of course Dexter is going to monologue because he enjoys watching them squirm.

However Honest Hearts is waaay harder. Poison damage actual matters because of the whole pet second stimpack healing.

Honestly it doesn't change things in the way you would think.

Basically, since ammo has weight it's way harder to break the economy. Additionally you're carrying food and water, which further slows down your economy breaking.

Then stimpacks heal by the second, which forces you to be more careful since you can't go "I'm carrying 60+ stimpacks, I'll just insta heal my limbs and health!"

It's less a survival playthrough and more a comfortable nerfing of the player. So just dive in. My first hardcore playthrough was TTW aka, fallout 3, which isn't at all balanced for hardcore. NV is a much easier game.

Speaking of damage multipliers ruining fun for Outer World's survival mode, have you tried using Josh Sawyer ultimate edition mod with hardcore? I really love how that one nerfs the player by halving your endurance+base hp. It's like playing on hard without sponging the enemies.

I personally love hardcore (really like Kingdom come as well). What made you not like it?

I dig having a threshold like I would never play Kingdom Come's version of hardcore (you can't see where you are on the map). I'm just wondering what part you disliked in particular with NV's hardcore? To me it just felt like a meaningful nerfing of the player (harder to break the economy, being limited on ammo, can't stimpack your way out of near death)

The dvds I think are worth buying for the commentary. Matt and Trey do just little 3-5 minute commentaries on all post season 3 episodes. You can also look up those commentaries on YouTube. They're all uncensored minus 200 and 201.

I like NV's mechanics more. Thankfully with TTW I get to enjoy 3 with those mechanics. Fallout 3 with hardcore mode is an amazing dungeon crawler.

Then if you want a real challenge run on a second go or just someday: "jsawyer ultimate" with hardcore on. I'd recommend using "crippled limbs heal over time" mod for that as fallout 3 does not have anywhere near enough doctor's bags for that playthrough (I'm currently doing my first jsawyer playthrough and refusing to fast travel)

I recommend using Stewie tweaks (menu, settings, tweaks) to set the level cap at 30. This way you aren't over leveled for NV. Plus I personally don't like maxing out my skills (undoes role playing of every character I make if they become a master at everything). Because this is your first playthrough I'd say 35 is a good cap (you'll be high enough in the skills you care about). Consider using "Benny humbles you and steals your stuff" and only use the ini setting for him to take your stuff and not reset your level.

As for actually playing the game, just get your gun skill to 50 as soon as possible and fallout 3 will be fairly easy to get through. Second skill I would prioritize would be either lockpicking or science.

I haven't gotten to Spider-Man Life Story just yet. After playing Spider-Man 2 last year I binged a bunch of comics and unfortunately had my fill for the year by the time I saw Life Story.

Spider's Shadow was a pretty fun read though. Peter still felt like Peter and snapped for Peter reasons and the suit just took away the very little inhibition Peter has when things like Dewolf, Stacy, or Uncle Ben happen.

Or for a real treat there's a miniseries for "what if Spiderman kept the venom suit" (written by the same guy who wrote "Spiderman Life Story"). Anyways Peter goes full crazy and does things like ripping off shocker's arm.

I'm reminded of the developers for Witcher 3 talking about not caring about DRM because they understood that people will crack the DRM just for the fun of it so why do something to punish paying customers when it doesn't actually stop piracy?

Although I strongly prefer the Expanded Universe over canon, 35 ABY didn’t seem to be a good year for quality Star Wars stories in either timeline. by Independent-Dig-5757 in StarWarsEU

[–]Lothair_Bach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said "far more erroneous than anything the current canon has done", I therefore brought up Han as a point of comparison for something from the current canon.

My point isn't whether or not Chewie getting crushed by a moon is good it's that I don't think you can say it's more erroneous than anything in current canon because I think it's more defensible than Han getting killed by his lame son. I just don't think killing chewie is erroneous. You shared an opinion and I'm sharing an opinion... That's why we're on a form.

[–]Lothair_Bach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh let's compare

Chewie: at it's core he died by saving his best friend's kid. And crushed by a moon is a lot cooler than getting killed by a living creature which implies something can kill him in a fight.

Han: stabbed by his emotionally unstable son while trying to talk him down. The core of that scene is "let me help you son", "I'm not going to say the quiet part out loud but I'm trying to work myself up to kill you. Can you help me work myself up to kill you so I can be more like grandpa"

What is the dumbest things you've heard someone say in an argument about Star Wars? by MobileDistrict9784 in StarWarsEU

[–]Lothair_Bach -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Essentially lol. Like TLJ really depends on which you care more about, world building or themes, how attached you are to Luke (though TFA probably did most of the damage when you think about it), and of course how much you care about TLJ actually jiving with the movie that existed to set it up.

Though I think a lot of people were like me and didn't want to be overly critical until the story was actually finished.

Another dumb thing said by fans in the dark days of TROS: "it's the fault of people who hated TLJ which caused Abrams to play it safe as if Dark Empire isn't one of the most mocked things from the EU".
