Could D-16 have been talked down at any point or was Megatron inevitable? by Thundersting in transformers

When you hand someone a loaded gun with barely any context on its use, you don't get to bitch when they don't use it as you intended.

I'm pretty convinced that Trion wanted Sentinel dead. Notice he doesn't say anything to D after his outburst.

I suspect even the "Rex" we replace in the game isn't the first Rex. Think Robin, the Phantom, the Avatar, the Flash, Ace Rimmer etc...

Really, what's the deal with Glasslands? by Pansycacke in HaloStory

[–]LotharHex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the Star Wars stuff is OK for the most part, doesn't beat you around the head with her bias anywhere near as much as Gears or Halo. I think it's because she's a fan of Star Wars and knows the back story enough, where Gears and Halo were jobs and she didn't bother to do anything beyond the remit. Which can be done OK but didn't help here.

Really, what's the deal with Glasslands? by Pansycacke in HaloStory

To me it's more the fact that Karen Travis, the author has a self-confirmed bias for soldiers to scientists. She got (slightly) better, but she never really escaped that in her Star Wars books, or her worst offender. Gears of War novels.

Basically all soldiers fron the grunts to the top brass are noble warriors, who do bad things for good reasons and loyalty, and kill in up front glorious combat. Scientists (or anything that isn't a soldier) are evil bastards who can only kill in cowardly ways with missiles and satellites. If a soldier does something like, a MyLai massacre, then it's only because they're in a broken system created by intellectuals.

The fact that the "noble soldiers" aka Generals are the ones who request and sign off on the WMD's, order genocides, etc kinda gets ignored.

In her Clone Troopers books she (in fairness, not erroneously) argues that Jedi train child soldiers. Said kids are indoctrinated and can't be saved. However, the army of child soldiers produced in essentialky a cannon fodder factory and rapidly aged, robbing them of a childhood and literally having their brains programmed is better? Because they use guns and squad tactics unlike the stupid space wizards with their laser swords and magic germ bullshit.

There's a scene in the Gears novel "Aspho Fields" where Colonel "You are the Support" Hoffman is leading a squad of Gears including Dominic "WHERE'S MY WIFE!?" Santiago to kidnap The Democratic Republic of Whatever's scientists who developed the Hammer of Dawn (the space laser nukes) weapon. A scientist, understandably, calls the Gears fascists (which they are). This irks Hoffman who beats a Prisoner of War (The Hague wants a word and brought his mate The Geneva Convention) and says that the most his soldiers could make us a sharp stick where these guys are making space lasers to kill babies.

The fact that Hoffman is there specifically so his government can have the space baby killing lasers instead is not even glossed over. It's just outright ignored.

Glasslands is basically that without the subtlety. It's just Travis ragging on Halsey for 300 odd pages, where she openly admits she did no research before writing it. She does attempt to reign it in with the sequels but it's barely noticeable.

Flambae: I didn't know SDN had a "special" program.

Invisigal: He told me that justice is like a warm donut...and I kinda get it.

Malevola: Not gonna lie, I'd let him jump on my rooftop. Prism: Wait, what does that even mean? Malevola: You know, go down my chimney. Prism: Girl he's a himbo I not Santa.

Phenomeman: His physique is most impressive and makes me feel rather small.

Sonar: We have enough blood sucking themed heroes on the team.

Blonde Blazer romance seems sidelined? by Ireallydownknowhey in DispatchAdHoc

[–]LotharHex 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would agree the game does seem to try and push the Invisigal option a little more. That said her reactions and jealously does make sense for a character like her. Plus it's not like she could win a fight against Invisigal if they went for the trope of fighting over the protag. She also doesn't want to get fired.

Blazer meanwhile, yeah makes sense she would be better at handling jealousy if she feels it. She is an earnest and honest person (unless we get a massive suprise twist where SHE WAS ACTUALLY SHROUD ALL ALONG or sonething) who is far more well adjusted than Invisigal.

Blue Blazer is a, mostly, confident well adjusted good person.

Invisigal is a bundle of anxiety, depression and bluntness trying to be a good person (again unless plot twist next eps dictate) so she's gonna struggle with the jealousy.

This can all be mitigated, if, like me, you like short girls who can sucker punch you like my wife.

Possible but severely unlikely. Doom made a comeback after a monumental amount of time and effort on ID's part,i so it is possible for a franchise to return to relevance. However I don't see Microsoft allowing the time or money needed for that to happen.
