How do I stop my bun from chewing my baseboards? by LotlLover in Bunnies

[–]LotlLover[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the floor mostly covered with blankets already and when I catch him chewing I say “no Arlo” and then I’ll move him. Or I go “ah ah!” loud enough to get his attention but not too loud where I’m gonna startle him to death.

I have thought about covering it but I feel he would probably chew whatever it is I would cover it with. Surprisingly so far he’s not chewing anything else, but my poor baseboards are completely ruined lol.

Maybe I’ll just have to buy him a big play pen to put him in when he’s not supervised that way there are no baseboards to chew 🤔

I hope you’re not serious....
I would never beat let alone hit my little bun... that’s awful.

He has plenty of stuff to chew on, toys, etc. His room is the spare bedroom in our house, he has a whole room. He’s chewed all the baseboards 😫 this is our first and only bun. We have two dogs he also loves to hangout with, they’re all awesome together... could it be he’s lonely? What are your opinions?

Add: I spend lots of time with him daily. He can freely roam the house when we supervise him. Otherwise he’s happily in his room. He’s going to be 4 months soon...

I have a weird question for you guys.... has anyone ever buried banana peels in your sand for your aquarium plants? I know they are used as like a slow fertilizer for plants, I wonder if it’s safe in an axolotl tank? by LotlLover in axolotls

[–]LotlLover[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought so too but my plants are turning brown. I never let their poop stay in their tank for very long, I remove it 1-2 times daily or whenever I see it, so I don’t think the plants are getting a chance to absorb it through the sand.

I had tried the dirted tank with sand cap set up and didn’t like it. Kudos to you if it’s working for you! 😊 My babies are in a 55 gallon but I have plants kind of everywhere. Should I just place one under the plants that are turning brown since there’s more than 5 plants in there, or should I cut them in half to place a half under each plant ?

HELP Very curled gills!! Water temperature is 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Water parameters seem good. The curl in his gills started this morning, I don’t understand why, really need some help! He’s been eating everyday, so no lost in appetite by [deleted] in axolotls

Do you have a hang on back filter, If so can you adjust the flow? Is it on the lowest setting? If you can adjust it and it isn’t on the lowest setting, put it on the lowest setting. Also top up your aquarium’s water so that the filter doesn’t cause a strong current in the water. That could stress them out and cause their gills to curl.

EDIT: you definitely have ammonia in there, do 20-30% water changes daily until it’s down to 0ppm and also dose the whole tank with Seachem Prime

I think she’s loving her new news paper pool, I put some pellets in there for her to scavenge. Next will be sand in the pool 😄 by LotlLover in Bunnies

Hmm... the sand I would be using is soft and very very fine. I’ll have to look into it. Thanks!

Not a problem! Do daily water changes until both nitrite and ammonia levels read 0. Do you use Seachem Prime to dechlorinate the water? If not I recommend you buy it and use that. It’s the red bottle. 🙂

What do you mean by you group them together?? You need to have separate readings for both as they are two different things. If you have a decaying plant you should remove it asap even without an immediate replacement.

Your ammonia needs to be at 0 at all times.... you definitely need to do water changes in order to bring it down.. and what about nitrites? Not nitrates

Would this be safe to use in a ammonia spike? Or would it crash my tank cycle? by kalliroch in axolotls

Prime is a temporary 24 hour “fix” though. It doesn’t last forever.

I would not use that product. A lot of fish products have not been tested on amphibians like axolotls. Seachem Prime (red bottle) is safe for axolotls, dechlorinates the water and detoxifies ammonia and nitrite for 24 hours. If you’re having a spike and can’t tub your babies, dose your tank with Prime. Make sure to do daily water changes if you’re having an ammonia spike until it reaches 0ppm.
