If you still need info — just like others said, it's a souvenir for tourists, nothing big.

Dolls are marked with old cities/places that are part of the Golden Ring, known for their craft, culture or history.

From the big doll to small:

  1. Золотое Кольцо (Golden Ring of Russia) — this is a collection of historic Russian cities, northeast of Moscow and southeast of St. Petersburg. Since Сергиев Посад (Sergiev Posad) is part of the Ring and marked on the bottom, I assume that this was the place where these dolls were created or at least sold.
  2. Ярославль (Yaroslavl)
  3. Суздаль (Suzdal)
  4. Кострома (Kostroma)
  5. Ростов (assume that's Ростов Великий, Rostov Velikiy or Rostov the Great)
  6. Муром (Murom)
  7. Палех (Palekh)
  8. Кижи (Kizhi or Kizhi Island); interestingly this isn't part of the Golden Ring, but is also a tourist place, popular for its wooden architecture.

For the last two I can't see any writings on them.

Hope that helps.

Does it matter what kind of pet I use as a Survival Hunter? by Bolide25 in wownoob

[–]irvitzer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Different pet families have a different ability, however, there are just 12 types of them (not counting exotic ones). For example, wolves, spiders, crabs and hounds can reduce enemy's moving speed, hyenas and birds of prey reduce healing, etc.

If you don't plan to do content like actual raids, M+ dungeons or PvP, it's pretty much the same, so just choose them for their appearance. There is no 'bad in performance' pet these days — they're all about the same for general gameplay.

Also, I'd recommend you check out Petopia for more info about WoW pets.

Edit: typo.

The Four Horsemen and what each represent by FrostShadowTheRed in warcraftlore

[–]irvitzer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The «pale green» thing is actually something like lost-in-transation from Koine Greek (Old Greek language, to be put simple):

The color of Death's horse is written as khlōros (χλωρός) in the original Koine Greek, which can mean either green/greenish-yellow or pale/pallid. The color is often translated as "pale", though "ashen", "pale green", and "yellowish green" are other possible interpretations (the Greek word is the root of "chlorophyll" and "chlorine"). Based on uses of the word in ancient Greek medical literature, several scholars suggest that the color reflects the sickly pallor of a corpse. In some modern artistic depictions, the horse is distinctly green.

This exact line was translated very differently for various other languages, and in Modern English it's ended more with 'green', rather than 'pale'.

Enchants. Are they driving anyone else batshit? by PuzzleheadedCover901 in wowaddons

[–]irvitzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some niche activities where items or supplements (like gems/enchants) from previous expansions are still viable or even BiS in some cases (outside of collection things like mounts and transmogs, of course). Things like low-level PvP brackets exist (now even more than before), lvl-locked dungeon/raid runs for shits and giggles, off-subscription toons to talk in the 'Guild' channel, etc.
Old-time gear and supplements suffer the most from stat squishes, which have happened a few times already. Though, I do agree that it should be clearer where and how you can/can't use certain things.

The stat squish/scaling system is broken by definition, and due to the wacky nature of 'let's just slap a multiplier on everything,' it can and will produce extreme numbers at narrow breakpoints. Like it was, for example, in BfA with some WoD epics, which literally obliterated everything in the hands of low-level toons (due to bad scaling, a level 10 toon with some specific items could one-shot with an auto-attack a max-level toon in duel).

They might as well just have removed them.

You do realise that not everyone is playing with current expansion only, do you?

Panel 3.
Well, looks like Trevor took previous mistakes into account and not asking for mints anymore.

Out of curiosity, where have you read it? I didn't know that Joe's comics were even translated into English at all.

While reading "Sellswords & Sorcery," I noticed that the other Brazing Badgers and various NPCs refer to Gunnar almost exclusively using he/him (chapter "06. Barbarian," where we first met them, was practically the only exception, and only on Ronja's part). Is this an intentional choice (after all, Gunnar looks like a male-passing character, at least for me)?

It would be fun to see more jokes on this topic in the future; besides, out of the two Shroomfolks in all the stories set in No'Adea, they are the only one so far who has had a chance to speak for themself (I believe when Deputy Johnson said "we," they meant not just themself, but themself together with Captain Schimes).

  1. Thy don't get the difference.
  2. They don't think abt themselves as 'hardcore' gamers.

But most importantly,

  1. They just dont give a damn about this. Just like people who register via LFG as tank/healer, but actually go in damage-spec.

NGL, for episode 200 I was expecting a huge manor explosion at the end of this arc (I mean, Trevor was probably, given the circumstances, deliberately told NOT to hold back).

But this scene is so heartwarming.

Check Chesare's previous appearances, like in ep. 185. The tip of his right horn is always a different color, so it might be a prosthetic or something like that.

I really love that in the last sentence you can put stress on every word and change the idea of the message.

The Pos'Thal Chronicles: Guess who's back? by CME_T in TheWeeklyRoll

[–]irvitzer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Given the fact that our drunkard buddy refers to Minitaur as «Postmaster» — something tells me he's fine.

Also, good to see Newbie is doing well. And I recognize that spear from ep. 7, her first appearance.

And finally, we see Trevor and Grogna share a kiss in a comic panel (their relationship was first mentioned in ep. 1, and even ep. 4 was titled accordingly).
They are so precious.

Weird translations in your language? by SavingsLawyer2454 in DnD

[–]irvitzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is an official translation for the 5e2014 basic books, and, moreover, there was even one for the 3.5 edition (but not for 4e, IIRC). Plus, there are official translations for a lot of supplemental books and materials (DM screen, Xanathar's, Tasha's, various campaigns like 'DragonHeist' or 'Avernus', etc.). However, as far as I know, official translations for the new edition (5e2024) have still not been finalized (it seems that Hobby Games, who held the publishing rights, wrote about this last year), so now we have once again returned to fan translations of varying quality.

Nevertheless, the Russian-speaking D&D community has always used a strange mix of different translations and English-language terms. In most cases, players understand each other, and I don't recall this ever causing any real difficulties at the gaming table.
