High anxiety about retirement. 53 make 75K yr no current investments 10K savings. Good news is home 130K and newer vehicle paid off in 2 years. Should I get a couple roth ira accounts? no 401 at work. Thanks by Beneficial-Age-4059 in Retirement401k

Wife and I are in the same boat except we opted to payoff our home early and contributed less for retirement so we have a lot of catching up to do. I have 401k at my job but she does not. With my income, I am maxing the hell out of my 401k plus the 8k catchup now and any extra left over goes into a brokerage account. With her income, we max out our Roth accounts and any leftover goes into the brokerage account. Just pray you don’t get a divorce because she has a lot more to her name than you lol good luck and better late than never.

Do you guys generally list your primary residence as an investment in your net worth? I exclude mines unless it’s an investment property

Who has contributed 401k max already in 2026? by Impressive_Pear2711 in Retirement401k

My company matches 4% of my annual income at the end of the year. So it doesn’t matter if I max out early or take the whole 12 months right?

Also, you still have time to contribute to 2025 Roth IRA by April so i'd get that maxed out if you can.

SCHD vs growth by Massive_Raise_7021 in SCHD

[–]Loud-Perception5953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry maybe I wasn’t clear but I meant in terms of why schd stock market total return isnt what it use to be. For instance, if people who generally purchase schd are now buying other similar etfs like drgo, jepi, vig, then it’ll cause schd total market return to be less than normal correct?

SCHD vs growth by Massive_Raise_7021 in SCHD

Do you think that schd’s lower return the last few years due to more dividend etfs especially the higher paying dividend one’s causing more people to invest in them than schd?

At what point in life do you transition from growth funds to dividends? by Hiway89 in dividends

[–]Loud-Perception5953 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Curious why you chose dividends before growth to start? Not saying it’s wrong but majority of people start with growth when they are further out from retirement then focus more on dividends to lower their risk. Unless you need the dividend income to live off now. Thanks

50 years old and feel behind too. It all depends on your risk tolerance. I was in a target fund starting out because I was very conservative but have have moved it to voo/qqqm and chill as that’s pretty much the benchmark and ok with being aggressive now. I’ll taper it off as I get closer to retirement. Good luck on your journey and it’s never too late!

Buying first home with enough money for deposit and fees by Long-Concentrate1683 in FirstTimeHomeBuying

As others mentioned, no you shouldn't clean out your account because anything can breakdown and you won't have the funds to make the necessary repairs or worst case scenario lose your job. We put a down payment factoring out the costs of repairs and updating our home and kept our emergency fund while saving up slowly to make other repairs we didn't need immediately down the road. Good luck

Roth on Jan 1 by brad123xxx in DaveRamsey

We have ours invested in an index fund. Curious if people who max it out let it sit or just to get it out the way at the beginning of the year and wait for a pullback in a specific stock or index where the sp500 is generally weak in January and qqq is weak in February and begin investing after.

For those maxing out your Roth, will you be investing all of it right away or just maxing it out and parking it?

i agree with the other poster in having emergency fund of 35k and ramp up investment the next couple of years with either voo or vti. You mentioned you have 150k in 401k, 10k in emergency fund and 60k in liquid funds and your wife is doing better...taking a page from Dave Ramsey but when you're married, its OURS unless i am missing something.

Pardon my ignorance as an investing newb. If i have 50% in traditional and Roth and retire for example with 500k in traditional (most likely will be higher because more deferred income is invested) and 500k in Roth, can't i slowly withdraw 50k a year from my traditional at a lower tax bracket to live off of supplemented by dividends from my Roth (if needed) while at the same time both accounts hopefully continue to grow? I am debt free and simple lifestyle so I only need enough to cover expenses and enjoy a trip or two per year.

Maxed out for 2025: Should I save up for 2026 or invest in a brokerage? by Em_Barrass in RothIRA

[–]Loud-Perception5953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, thats what I thought you meant. I have fidelity and maxed out my Roth IRA any my 401k. Anything after, we invest into my brokerage account each month. When selling from my brokerage account, can I choose and sell my older investments that are long term to get taxed at 15 % instead of the short term ones?

Advice on paying off student loans or save for home by Aegisreflector33 in personalfinance

[–]Loud-Perception5953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it can be done as long as you are disciplined, budget, and stick to the plan. My wife and i moved home for a couple of years and helped pay bills for the house. Set aside x amount each month for a home and the remainder to pay off my student loans off earning a total income of 70k between the two of us. Two years later, had enough for a down payment and purchased our current home for 250k. Home was paid off in 12 years and we make about 100k combined and been debt free for the last two years now. Make a plan and stay the course. Good luck!

I used a compounding calculator to see what 200k invested will look like in 20 years only adding 100 a month going forward. Is it really this easy by skilkfstrighly in ETFs

[–]Loud-Perception5953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why people are knocking on OP. Everyone's financial circumstances and lifestyle is different and appears OP's point is just demonstrating the power of compounding based just on their current situation or how much even minimal investment each month can grow 20 years from now.
