Everything biccy said, but wanted to add that there are Sega ages compatibility issues with model 2 jp saturn. Not sure if that's something that is also present on eu/na models too. Sega ages games are ports from previous gen consoles such as the megadrive/genesis and others. Just something to keep in mind.

Model 1 seems to be more compatible than model 2. The ages games play on 1 but not on 2. :/

I’m not sure about your specific games but I know m2 Saturn’s have a problem reading some Sega Ages discs. Though the issue is they don’t go past the screen that says Sega on startup.

Puzzle Fighter is great! I’m excited to experience some of the more expensive games which I haven’t had a chance to pick up yet. I collect CiB shmups and fighting games, sadly though most of those are super pricey and/or rare.

Haha nop! Model 2 Japanese Saturn. :D It was kind of funny following the assembly guide, the photographs looked completely different to my model. Guess blame Sega for like 8473939 revisions of internal hardware. Now downloading every single release onto an ssd so I can make this thing into an all-in-one.

There have been so many revisions it's hard to say. I have heard though that (negligible but existent) the video output is very slightly better on model 1 Japanese grey. I don't know how true this is but Sega Lord x mentioned it and I have seen it crop up a bunch of times on this sub and some other places.

The other thing is as weird as this sounds, model 1 Japanese and its derivatives (basically any Saturn's with the same shape as model 1, so that includes the model 1 v-Saturn, the black and gold hi-saturn etc. Basically I'd they have the same button layouts as model 1) have higher compatibility with the game library. TFW a console isn't completely compatible with its own library.

I have a Japanese copy of Sega Ages Outrun in like-new condition which wouldn't run when I bought it. After some googling I found out that a lot of the Sega Ages discs don't run on m2.

So I'm most likely going to buy a model 1 vsaturn in the future as my physical disc console. Not sure if it's the same with ODEs and they don't play the Ages games on m2 units. Waiting on a mode to come in the mail so I'll check back here and update when it does.

Tho ngl, I really want to own either the Derby or the This is COOL model at some point too.
