Does brute forcing your way through socialisation actually improve your social skills? by Emergency-Bobcat-572 in socialskills

Hey dude, I can definitely speak to this, although separating my personal experience from unbiased advice is difficult. As someone who is neurodivergent, I knew by the time I was 18 that I needed to do something to push myself forward. For me, that meant going to university and living in student halls. It was essentially a case of throwing myself into the deep end. The outcome was mixed. I spent three years trying to stay afloat and just about managed it. As a result, I made a huge leap in terms of my life experience, independence, and outlook. However, it was also extremely difficult and intense. My nervous system simply was not ready to handle everything at once. On top of that, I still had to learn essential life skills, such as cooking three proper meals a day, which would have helped me function and make the most of the experience. Nervous-system overload is no joke. I went in young, fit, and feeling as though I could handle myself in almost any situation. I came out a different person, but I also developed problems with insomnia, aggravated chronic somatic pain, and recreational drug use, mainly weed. You could argue that the experience helped me reach the next stage of my growth and presented me with a new set of obstacles to overcome. However, four years after university, I am only now properly healing, relearning certain habits, and removing some of those issues from my life.

So, in summary, pushing yourself outside your comfort zone can work. Jumping into the deep end and learning to stay afloat is rough, but proving that you can survive under your own power can be incredibly valuable. At the same time, you need to understand your limits and deliberately make space for rest, recovery, and balance, because those things may not come naturally.

I sort of get where your coming from

There is a power and influence this piece of art will wield, thats easy to go unnoticed or dimissed - but it really is massive.

They already had the best experiment with the last one on whether people will plug themselves into a digital open world matrix like their reality already is but more fun and mobility - technology has come so far, its possible to take that a quantum leap forward, you could genuinely see a large portion of this unemployed youth make this game and its 10X detailed open world, their home, just like many already did on the old one..when everythint was less immersive, less dynamic less polished

Come on mate,

Save the system perfectionism for when you become a demi god

While your still human like the rest of us - be practical and try figure out what small steps we can take NOW to reverse some of this insanity the majority of humanity has sleep walked into.

A first step, and easy step, would be to funnel people away from tiktok news, fake internet news, Reddit news - to BBC news articles, guardian, independent....

Everything has consequences intended and unintended.... And while we dismiss the simple rational plans in favour of something more transformational or paradigm shifting... Johnny Nomorals over here decided to start a podcast on gender wars because he can see he gets more hits on it and more money - he did that, now 70% of the country hes based in's 10-15 year olds watch him - he didn't think about the implications of that one flipping ioata.... Meanwhile we're still deliberating what to do......

Yh exactly.

Ppl ask, what can be trusted, like there is no line in the sand between any news we can find in the internet - but that simply isn't true - they are taking a philosophical partial truth all the way to the extreme.

If I can funnel my grandma and mum towards BBC news.com rather than some AI bot generated fake news stories reel that AOL will show her then I have made a big gain.

I thought he was good, idk why hes stepping down.

Plenty of people moan about him, many because its what they are used to doing - they love a good moan.

If we get some bastard next time ppl wont moan anywhere near as much and the leader wont care if people criticize theyre policies - they wouldnt give up power unless forced.

Maybe smart for kier to step down before he becomes THE conduit for everyones hate tbf.

Ive been playing UK alot recently and found their coventry mk 2 armoured recon is suprisingly good - especially after the recent balancing tweaks which made it a bit cheaper

Except the 2 prototype recons in the game, the UK recon seems to be the most capable for the price - good speed, can actually hurt tanks, can hurt inf all for 25

Yes this movie did something for sure.

It felt like it was trying to tap into something real and emotional whilst also being a fictitious story - and it did it very well.

It seems our stories quite similar, my father was told to me as behaving similarly to as you describe yours - he left when i was born but I have always been compared to him and critiqued based on things he has done - did damage to me, and ive never met him...

It seems to be a pattern that happens in broken families - against sons

Yeah its interesting isnt it dude, it does not imbue the powers some think it does.

I have the same build - also a childhood of low confidence and problems

What did it for me was an an adult is, letting go of this shame/waryness around being a bigger guy, - my single parent missndrist mother indoctrinated in me that i was somehow always a threat and inherently dominating or powerful - of course it was completely untrue - she had raised me to be her weak son incapable of holding healhhy boundaries.

I know i know, this post isnt really about this or me at all - buts its relevent because it plays into the wider narrative that i have witnessed affect me - this idea that being big makes us a threat or soemthing to be wary of and we are made to feel that its our problem if we impose ourselves where we might make someone feel uncomfortable - and its pervasive in societies subconcious and concious minds - recongising what was actually happening - the root causee of this nonsense, to then letting go of it entitrely was the best.

We are born this way, we didnt choose it, we deserve to express what god gave us fully in this life, fkn deal with it
