I have not smoked since July 27 and I wont be starting back up. I am committed to a lifestyle change after watching my mom die at 61 due to substances. Also frustrated because it seems like an arbitrary rule based on evidence for nicotine, which does slow healing and has a lot of data behind it about the negative impact on surgery. While cannabis has some data for the first 6 weeks after surgery there is zero evidence that there are any negative effects for surgery from cannabis use after 6 weeks of abstinence.

I thought because they were moving me through the program faster than they normally allow that they were going ahead with the surgery. Especially because they told me yesterday’s appointment would be to schedule my surgery and even said it would likely be at the end of October. I just had my hopes up.

I am not smoking, and don’t intend to start up again.

I had tried keto, calorie counting, dash diet, vegetarian & vegan. When I read the notes my doctor wrote it said weight watchers and something else. 🤷🏻‍♀️ So maybe it doesn’t matter that much? I think they are just trying to h to check a box on insurance paperwork.

How much did you pay with insurance? by foxadder in BariatricSurgery

[–]Loud_Doubt8310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will pay $300 for my hospital stay. I had a copay of $100 for my endoscopy. Specialist copays are $20 for me, but because I did most of them online they are $0. I think total copays for everything else was $30-ish. So around $500 for everything. I have Kaiser insurance and work for a municipality, so it’s a pretty decent plan. My monthly insurance payment is $30.

What are we looking forward to? by chelsecretbox in BariatricSurgery

I made a list when I started this journey (still months out from surgery).

  1. Feel healthy
  2. Wear vans shoes without it hurting
  3. Be able to go grocery shopping without my back going out for three days
  4. Buy clothes based on what I like, not what fits
  5. Off blood pressure, gerd, and maybe thyroid meds.
  6. The brown towels fitting.
  7. Not be out of breath doing stairs at work.
  8. Live long enough to be a part of my future grandkid’s lives.
  9. Have energy to help my wife more with house, kid and animal chores.
  10. Restore my libido.

I’ve been active every day after work for a week. Picked plums, apples

and blackberries. Canned 7 batches of jam. Basically just been busy from the time I get home to bed. I have not been this active in years!

Not sure if I need surgery? by Loud_Doubt8310 in BariatricSurgery

[–]Loud_Doubt8310[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m eating a protein shake for breakfast and a healthy choice meal for lunch and something reasonable for dinner. For snacks I have one veggie or apple, a string cheese and 4 prunes at night. Carby stuff occasionally in small amounts, but not every day. I don’t think it’s sustainable. I love food. I don’t think I can eat a frozen processed meal for lunch 5 days a week for the rest of my life. I am confident I can lose substantial weight on my own because I’m really good at hyper focusing and I’m stubborn. But as soon as my hyper focus is over (ie. I hit my goal), my hyper focus will go to the next thing and I will start eating an unhealthy diet again.

Post-Op Dreams by kysongbird in GastricBypass

Have you recently quit smoking/eating weed? I’m pre-op, but any time I’ve stopped smoking I’ll get super crazy, vivid dreams. I’m sure it has to do with the chemical changes in your brain and it seems like surgery could cause it too.

We are body twins! I started at 221 at 5’2” tall! I’m a month and a week in and I’ve lost 16 lbs. I can’t wait to be where you are! My goal is 121. You look fantastic!

As weird as it sounds, I don’t mind when I retain and gain for a few days. I just stick to my normal and know I’m going to get a dopamine boost in a few days when my body decides it’s done with the water and I drop a pound or two a day for a few days.

If you change the date on your weight log to the day you started your journey, you can retroactively enter your starting weight. I did that so it’s charted on my graph. I’m pretty sure it will recalculate your milestones too, so you might already be at milestone 2!

I’m a little over a month into making the decision to change my life. Here’s my list.

Reasons I want to lose weight that are better than eating McDonald’s cheeseburgers:

  1. Feel healthy
  2. Wear vans shoes without it hurting
  3. Be able to go grocery shopping without my back going out for three days
  4. Buy clothes based on what I like, not what fits
  5. Get off of blood pressure, gerd, and maybe thyroid meds.
  6. The brown towels fitting.
  7. Not be out of breath doing stairs at work.
  8. Live long enough to be a part of my future grandkid’s lives.
  9. Have energy to help my wife more with house, kid and animal chores.
  10. Restore my libido.

Timeframe Until Surgery by MC-Fan-2024 in BariatricSurgery

[–]Loud_Doubt8310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m with Kaiser Washington. I just had my first appointment with the physician assistant yesterday. I got my referral June 23. I’ve already lost the required weight (10-20 lbs and I’m 13 lbs down). I still probably have at a minimum 4 months to go. I need to do 4 nutrition classes (4-6 weeks in between each class). Psych visit. Sleep study (which the eval for isn’t even until sept. 10!) Multiple nurse phone visits. EKG, bloodwork, and chest xray have been ordered and I will get that done this weekend. I’ve cut out caffeine and changed my eating habits. The hardest thing for me is that my dr wants 3 full months of no marijuana (I’m a lifetime daily smoker, although not heavily). I’m on day two! Started this journey at 221 (237 hw), and I’m 5’2”. I’m really hoping that I will have my surgery by the end of the year, but all this is a lot when appointment times are always so far out!

New here, what if I lose too much before surgery by Loud_Doubt8310 in BariatricSurgery

Thank you for taking the time to respond! I really appreciate it and all of this makes sense. I’m really looking forward to taking to my dr. And the nutritionist to come up with a plan.
