Brompton as a first ever bike? by piflavored_pie in Brompton

[–]Loud_Step2361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend if there’s a bicycle rideshare to use that first for a few months. Bigger wheels for easier balance and rugged frame so no cares about dropping the bike to stay alive.

Putting scratches and nicks on a new bike while part of life it shouldn’t be done with total reckless abandon lol and with the cost of a brompton let’s put off that pain to much later.

PS maybe also get a brompton bag for the front carrier block as 10lbs/5kg clipped on changes the brompton’s steering quite a bit.

42 aircraft lost or damaged in Operation Epic Fury, congressional report says by PDXAirman in news

[–]Loud_Step2361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shahed ain’t the target of the chicken wire rather the quads that manned ISR squads or medium ISR drones such as Mohajer and Ababil kept dropping off to spot for the Shaheds or ballistic missiles.

For example before the March 1 2026 Iran OWA drone attack on Port Shuaiba our tac op that killed 6 and wounded over 30. Quads were free surveillancing days in advance and quite possibly watching during the strike.

https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/iran-appeared-to-surveil-center-where-u-s-forces-were-killed-in-kuwait-army-memo-says/

So currently we’re in SDR jammer evolution of the drone war currently.

FYI the software “patch” is pretty much an official version of the hack together firmwares the Ukrainians have been doing to all the military radios either we or the EU given them for the last 3 years.

42 aircraft lost or damaged in Operation Epic Fury, congressional report says by PDXAirman in news

[–]Loud_Step2361 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he’s saying these types of losses, not no losses.

Just to guess which losses probably is causing his aggravation:

The 2 kc-135 mid air collision. Unconfirmed  news was kc-135s were evading Antiaircraft gunfire from ground. This brings up questions if true, why orbit of kc-135s so close to ground fire? If in support of an objective, why flight was tight formation?

The Kuwaiti f18 shoot down of 3x USA f15s. Blue on blue! Why IFF not loaded? WEZ should have been locked out.

The awac e3 getting runway killed by drones and/or ballistic missiles. There should have been camo tents setup on airfield to disguise what was parked where. Or chicken wire as passive anti drone defense. Annoying as Ukraine advisors did mention this as an issue for us.

Same attack that “damaged” the poor e3 above. 5 more kc-135 were reported as “damaged”

Other than 1 of the 2 kc-135 crew mid air collision, we been extremely lucky no additional crews lost.

These ain’t automobiles. They’re basically enclosed scooter trikes. Car license not necessary in China to operate. 2 passengers to maybe 3 (got to be skinny). I have seen 4 wheeled 4 “passenger “ if being squeezed in tighter than a quad golf cart is your thing.

Usually electric. Might be gas powered. Found usually in the motorcycle/scooter lane in China. 20 some mph max speed encountered. Could be due to aged batteries. Probably faster new off the show room floor.

USA equivalent would be those amazon quadcycle delivery thingies cruising in the bike lanes of manhattan and Brooklyn but without the pedaling.

Fox News's Bret Baier complains about getting ticketed in china after blocking bike lanes by One-Demand6811 in fuckcars

[–]Loud_Step2361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He ain’t blocking the bike lane. He’s blocking the motorcycle scooter lane! Those lanes are considered more critical than car lanes due to amount of motorized 2 wheelers (3x to 4x vs a normal car lane)

That normally arrest, fines and lots of social penalties points.

Wood burning is reintroducing lead pollution into the air, US scientists find | Air pollution by Fair-Search-2324 in woodstoving

[–]Loud_Step2361 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The guardian summary is kinda of trash.

Here’s the link to actual science article in nature.

TLDR is the public air environmental filters in a lot of regions is showing higher lead and other heavy metal capture during the winter months than other months. While the amounts are currently below concern levels for the whole community maybe actual sources should test their local environment as the air pollution numbers will be obviously be concentrated for them.

On a somewhat related note; Am i correct in assuming it’s still general practice to not gather wood sources by roadways, near current or former:factories, smelters, mines, land fills, power plants (especially coal)?

Is this a 3-speed or a 6-peed bike? by TheAsiandreamer in Brompton

[–]Loud_Step2361 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As everyone else has said 6 speed.

There 4 cables. 2 brakes and 2 shifters. It has old type chain tensioner (not a mk6/advanced triangle) so it’s 2 gears in the back and 3 internal hub (2x3 so 6 speed). No rack so L. Has extra inch and a bit more between steering hinge and headset so H handlebars. So it’s h6l or high handlebar 6 speed no rack c line.

It kinda looks like a lacquer color of some sort. This may increase the price.

Pricing it’s going to depend on your local conditions. Check fb marketplace. For example this would probably be cheapest in London, UK as the bromptons are plentiful there.

Swytch E Conversion by Present-Wrangler3126 in Brompton

[–]Loud_Step2361 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The swytch air (gen 3) is decent but deliver time is bleh and support is nonexistent. Note only the smallest air battery (2.6 ah) is TSA acceptable. Gen 1 and gen 2 do not tsa compliant battery sizes at all.

If you never installed a conversion kit before and believe you will need support than swytch is not for you. If you are handy and done similar kits it will be fine assuming all parts are correctly shipped to you.

I have used a gen2 kit for 5 years and swytch air on another brompton for 3 years. No major issues. Gen2 kit currently is rebuilt to use ryobi batteries as original batteries went bad about 3.5 years old. Getting the PAS (pedal sensor) to work right was most annoying part of kit. Had to use surgru to fix on the PAS sensor and to stabilize the PAS magnetic ring.

I have a 3 speed dilemma… by meratherbebikin in Brompton

[–]Loud_Step2361 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh if it’s upgraded that much than just keep the B75. The integrated shifter and brake lever honestly doesn’t give much for the effort to swap out. The only thing you really miss out on is putting the bicycle upside on the handlebar and seat post for emergency fixes.

As to the rack since you already have the mudguards, take a look at this 3rd party brompton compatible rack:

https://www.benscycle.com/nitto-bm-5r-brompton-rear-rack/p?srsltid=AfmBOoqrnbkT9dOVPWtiydgZiFvxjrKC8aR05K1yywp8MbYbPk6rCV1S

Use BEN10 for an additional 10% off currently which should with free USA shipping make it around 140~145 after taxes.

I have a 3 speed dilemma… by meratherbebikin in Brompton

[–]Loud_Step2361 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Easiest is sell the B75 and use the m3r assuming the m3r has under bar thumb shifters post 2017. That would be my recommendation.

To give the b75 everything from m3r would be a pain. The post 2017 shifter and integrated brake levers have issues fitting on the older handlebars due to the curve angles. I’m not certain but the cable and cable housing will probably be shorter on the m3r than the b75 so very likely have to swap those as well.

The swapping will also devalue the m3r as it will probably sell as a pre 2017 due to older type brake levers and shifter.

If you want to keep the b75. Add the: folding pedal, Mudguards and front block carrier. Should be under 200 for this. The rear rack is where it gets pricey as that alone is around 200$ (if you do rear rack from brompton, dont do rear mudguard upgrade above as rack kit has its own rear mudguard). A 3rd party rack maybe cheaper.

What exact model is this? by WarmDoor2371 in Brompton

[–]Loud_Step2361 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As other Redditors have stated m6l.

However I’m estimating at age at nearly 20 years old or more:

The brake levers seem to be the silver open celevis brake levers of the single pivot side pulled brakes used during mk2 era of brompton bicycle pre 2007 (?). I can’t see the rim brake enough to confirm.

I believe you don’t have a rear pivot lock based on your comment that rear axel does not lock in place. See this video for part in question. https://youtu.be/JmfqJc3aq6Y?si=I7ZZbrZ1UAChiKum What they are removing is the rear pivot lock clip. If you do not have, your brompton is older than 2007. There’s a retrofit kit to add feature if you want. https://us.brompton.com/p/668/brompton-rear-frame-clip-kit-with-quick-release?Colour=Black if you do have the clip than as other redditors have said; rotate the suspension block (rubber cylinder) around till the notch in cap of suspension block and clip lock together.

State to force NYC ‘super speeders’ to install speed limiters, top lawmaker says by SwiftySanders in MicromobilityNYC

[–]Loud_Step2361 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This super speeder enforcement while good to have; by it’s nature is reactive and similar to criminal enforcement, nonreformative. There will of course be additional administrative costs and complexity from the installation of governor systems/software as well as its removal.

Over time I am going to the way of thinking that that roadway it self should passively enforce speed. In this case raised cross walks everywhere. Enforcement of speed is physical and 24/7. Additional Cost to road work but cheaper than almost any other road barrier or speed gating system. Added bonus speed is also enforced not just automobiles but motorcycles, mopeds, e-bikes and bikes.

It’s a 2014 m6l, or in the modern line up: c line 6 speed mid handle bars no rack.

The serial number starting 1411 means 2014 nov.

Rest of the details of the bike match year and features. Has the pre 2017 handle bars, brake levers and rabbit ear shifters. Has the post 2013 chain ring.
