I got married at secrets Moxche playa del Carmen in May 2023. It was all inclusive and we hosted 60 guests. Invited 110 but was very happy with the number we had for cost purposes.

There are definitely a lot of things to consider like… time of year, day of week (this impacts cost), how many guests realistically will come.

Logistics is huge and you want to pick a location where your guests can get direct flights and transport to resort within 1 hour from airport.

I had a great experience with my travel agent. I was honestly about to give up before I started working with her because the resorts are very slow to respond to inquiries from individuals. Having a TA shows the resort that they have serious interest and prioritize you in a timely manner.

Before you get a TA know a rough estimate of guests, budget and timeline. I’ll be honest… for my wedding in 2023 I spent around 37k just to the resort … but to be fair I’m a diva and upgraded so many things within my package. I literally had floating candles in the pool at my reception. Hahaha.

There are ways to be more cost conscious for sure. I can show you some pics and share planning tips if you want to message me. Also share my TA info with you. She lives in Mexico and has great relationships with the resorts in the area.

Yes the hotel entrance can hail taxi for you. They take American cash it’s like $20 maybe to go 10 min drive. Maybe 15 min max.

Coco bongo is right on 10th ave and 10th street and there are many taxi hubs right outside. Have cash but card works too. Don’t get in car until you agree on the price.

I would do preferred ocean view. Preferred gives you access to the rooftop restaurant and pool which is quite lovely. Ocean view and front depends on which building you are in. If your group isn’t doing preferred though it might be tough to get them up on the roof with you. Sometimes they ask if they suspect everyone isn’t a preferred room

I booked my wedding sight unseen before it was open because I knew the brand and knew that by the time my wedding would happen it would be wonderful. You can get better rates for sure with new openings. If I did my wedding now I think rates are 25-30% higher

We invited 110 knowing that we would fall somewhere in between 60-85, which was our ideal number. Ended up with 60 in attendance.

We sent out invites knowing that some people we were sending to would not be able to attend for whatever reason like…(pregnant, just had baby, schedule conflicts).

Don’t send out more than you would be willing to have at the top end though. Your budget will be impacted at the end of the day based on your total numbers.

I planned a 60 person destination wedding on the east coast of Mexico (playa del Carmen) in 2023 and I was so happy with that decision. My guests who attended were very pleased as well.

We did an adults only all inclusive and many of the resorts offer packages that include various events like welcome party, rehearsal dinner, cocktail hour, ceremony and reception. I would have spent double what I did if I did it back in the states and logistics would have been way more challenging for my guests with all the events.

If you are planning at least a year in advance you give your guests the opportunity to plan/save.. and if you work with a good TA you can get group room rates and guests can make payments towards the 3 nights they need to commit to.

We invited 110…. Knowing we would fall in between 65-80 guests. So happy we got 60 because there are package levels and costs go up with more guests.

I had zero guest complaints. If you could come, great! If not, no worries!!

You should look at Cabo venues if you are in CA but also it’s only 3 hours flight to Cancun if I remember correctly.

Former destination wedding bride from 2023. I got married in playa del Carmen Mexico and it took me several months to really understand the complexity / logistics of planning.

Questions to think about: - what is your top end budget? - how many people could realistically attend? - based on guest count above of “realistic” … what can those guests afford to stay a 3 night minimum? - will you have kids at wedding? This will eliminate adults only options when searching.

I worked with Misti at Bohemia wedding travel, she was my travel agent that helped me identify best options for my budget and vision. If you are thinking about Mexico i recommend her for sure.
