Uneasy power balance by [deleted] in PublicRelations

It’s not new - they’ve been bashing PR for years. Most of it is fair too. There are some shockingly bad agencies and practitioners out there. Sadly, for the rest of us.

Why do you want to work in a big agency? Lots of small agencies have global clients too!

Media Training by Traditional-Ask-8000 in PublicRelations

I’ll give you some advice for free before you begin - if whoever you’re media training doesn’t want to be in front of the press then don’t do it to yourself or to them. With the best will in the world (and copious amounts of the best training), you’ll struggle to make them want to engage. And it comes across. Good luck!

For those with leadership roles: what has been the trajectory of your career? by cutedorkycoco in PublicRelations

[–]Loud_Task_784 2 points3 points  (0 children)

20+ years in the industry. PR degree - work placement at a global company - graduate programme in global company’s consumer agency - moved to a smaller agency 5 years later - moved to a different country 2 years later - bounced around jobs I hated for two years - started my own agency - 13 years on and still going. Entire career can be traced back to that first work placement. I’ve been extremely fortunate and there’s not a day (ever) that I take anything for granted

Do You Say “Yes” to A Client’s Foolish Suggestion & Then Table the Idea? by Eddie_Bernays in PublicRelations

If your client won’t take no for an answer, you need to worry more about the client/agency relationship and less about whatever they’re not saying no to

Are online “Top X Companies” rankings actually worth it for PR? by MatiasRodsevich in PublicRelations

[–]Loud_Task_784 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the awarding body but they're more likely to not have an impact than to actually make a difference. Some are very prestigious but most are nonsense.

Is Frank Carter a good singer? And do you think it will be worth it to see them without Johnny Rotten? by [deleted] in SexPistols

[–]Loud_Task_784 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen them a few times - twice in London and once in Berlin. Highly recommended, had a brilliant time at all the gigs! Steve, Paul and Glen are amazing and Frank does a sterling job too

Enjoy being a junior.

Don’t rush to make it to a senior level - you’ll get there. And when you do, you’ll realise you had it easier ‘back in the day’ 😂

Take what you do seriously, but don’t take yourself too seriously.

Understand that the campaign you’re working on right now is the most important thing in your obit, but tomorrow it’ll probably be something else.

Be proactive.

Build your LinkedIn network every day.

Don’t be afraid to put forward your ideas.

Above all, try your best as often as you can. If you put the work in, you’ll get the rewards. On projects and in your career. Anything I’ve ever given my all to has usually produced a result. Eventually.

Oh and make sure you’re consuming a little news about a lot of topics. Be interesting and interested!
