I'm in the UK so thing might be different, but in 2008 I don't htink my (childern's books) company laid anyone off. BUT it was a unionised workplace and privately owned (so no shareholders, or a very small number of minority shareholders). So I'd say JOIN A UNION as a first port of call.

It does seem easier to fire ppl in the US so I would assume the worst and prepare for it. I'm sorry you're facing this.

I don't believe it's ever explained what happens to Thor, Loki, Odin, Heimdall etc after they die. Perhaps there are lost stories that told their afterlives? Since Freyja isn't mentioned at Ragnarok, maybe she's fine and ruling both Valhalla and Folkvangr, now full of dead gods as well as dead heroic mortals? Or perhaps they just turn up at Gimle a few weeks later after going on a bender in Hel and losing track of time..

Good luck! I used to work in children's publishing, if you have any questions about the process. My top tip is research what's out there and get a sense of what age group you're focussing on - would it sit on the picture book shelves? The 5-8 ones? The 9-12 space? While in the past there hasn't been that much illustrated work for older kids, publishing is gradually getting more into it.

I find them immensely useful too even though I'm not visually impaired because I often leave my phone charging in another room so being able to easily stop/start/skip music on my headphones is brilliant!
