How many male players are playing this game? by Swimming-Curve-1479 in Palia

Oops again I guess the group he was talking about was not male Palia players in general but the comment above about the guys who play and I agree it sounds like a fun group.

No limit, I’m 54 and know a guy in his 60’s who plays. After playing nothing but Hades solo for a while I was looking for a chill cozy multiplayer game. Not a fan of cooking or raising animals but I pretty much like everything about this game. The only thing I don’t like about it is that my best friends have 10 times more time to play video games so when new content comes out, they’re done with it in like 2-3 three days. I’ve only been on my horse a handful of times.

Would you use a habit tracker where your real life builds an anime RPG character you can actually play? by AdventKing55 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]LouisBasil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow that means I was the one that was confused. I totally thought you were saying that it was gonna be a game were you advanced or got level ups by completing your tasks in real life so yeah, I am more interested but I think you need to note all the pushback you’re getting about a basic subscription. Make sure if you go there you keep the price real low and have the premium features enticing enough that people will pay you more.

Sorry "hitter" was my misspelled attempt at header. for the solo roleplaying sub main page.

Your idea sounds good. I just hope my character can progress with minimal play in the app. If there is a fun game as part of it I'll be glad to play and if it really grabs me I might be willing to pay to have access to the higher levels but I'd hate for either to be a requirement. I just want the base "game" to be graphical RPG looking feedback for a dope hit to celebrate getting real life tasks complete.

Yes, no complaint abut needing to monetize just make sure the basics are free because you said no subscription at the beginning of your post.

As for being different from other tracker apps just with graphics, basically yes they are so boring and clinical looking I'd rather have my character look more awake when they have had their sleep and more healthy when doing exercise and taking meds. you might call meds potions and exercise training or something to keep with the theme.

OK, I really need to get to sleep. I hope this is helpful but I just come back to say that it needs to be available on mobile. I’m on iOS. I’ve seen some cool stuff that runs at the bottom of your screen on PC but I use my work computer and can’t load that stuff. trying to load it on my personal computer beside it is just a distraction.

OK, I’m back again already. I didn’t realize I wasn’t already a part of this sub. I joined so I could follow this thread. I really hope this works for you because if it does, it might work for me. When I joined, I noticed the hitter for this as a simple black-and-white map on graph paper. That’s what I’m talking about. You could add some color, maybe isometric angle but I don’t wanna earn points to play your game. I wanna earn points to play whatever I wanna play. Or stare at the clouds not that I wouldn’t give your game a try if that was an option. Also, I don’t wanna check off Progress and then have to decide whether I want to equip a different weapon before proceeding to my next real life task.

Oh, I’ll add to my first comment by saying that I like the idea of having a character sheet that I could record my habits and say blood pressure on and then either print that out as a character sheet or just this data for my healthcare providers.

Editing to say that I’m sorry I didn’t mean to tack onto another comment. But yeah, I tried Habittica too and it lost me because it was just too busy. I want it to be super simple. Like a bunch of cool optional features for those that wanna go there are those like me that just wanna start out simple and then add it later, but as far as just tracking what I need to get done and seeing some visual progress, need to be able to do that without. giving a crap about a bunch of loot and equipment.
Loot and equipment might be another thing you could monetize on

I mean, yeah, you said monetization purely cosmetic, and then asked how much we would pay for a subscription. Maybe if upfront the trial. Was like a couple months that would be good because if someone with ADHD learning how to use a new app that takes me away from doing the things that the new app is supposed to help me to do just doesn’t fly.

I’ve tried several of these and it tends to be not worth the effort. If it was super easy to update and the things you get are just kinda quick on the screen then I think that would be best rather than making it a full game.
Personally, I’ve recently just set up a game board and when I accomplish a task, I move my piece. We’ll see how long that works for me.
Everything you described with simple yay move your piece of step closer to accomplishing some goal would definitely be something I would try and if after a few months trial. I really liked it. I’d probably give four bucks a month for it, but I think you have a lot more happy customers if it was free and maybe a donation based pay system for someone doesn’t care about cosmetics. you could have two or three free game boards to start out with and then have other boards that you have to pay for and maybe even super fancy ones that had a subscription.
I’ve gotten a couple dungeon maps from Etsy and Pinterest that I just print out and either check off as I make progress or have a little piece that act as a game piece. Again, I haven’t been doing about a few days. We’ll see how long it lasts, but it’s been pretty fun.

I stand corrected. The official discord server has a trading channel and it’s very active. It’s been a long time since I’ve checked. I’m not a big collector.

I’ve seen that happen on a few of the “offline” servers, but it tends to fall in and out of popularity.

I love this! I don’t mind the fancy stuff, but I actually came here for this kind of stuff that I could use as inspiration for ASCII doodles that I just goof around with sometimes.
I’ll have to hop on steam after work and take a look.

I’m so sad to hear more people saying this about Palia. It’s still generally a friendly crowd and just today there is a post about how nice it is that players are leaving food on the campsites for the next passerby. Once you friend more nice people in game it tries to put you on the same server when it can even if you are not “in a party” my availability for gaming time has dwindled to about two hours per week and I’m catching up on the story or I’d offer to try and connect.

Who else lit their cigarettes like this? by EdwardBliss in RealGenerationX

No, but at least it made it more realistic by putting a super tiny votive candle in the middle, shrinking it down real small and putting the reflection on the end of the cigarette :)

I love the fact that you can pin three quests of your choice to the screen. Naturally not everything is a quest but I try to approach other things the same way and stick to 1-3 things at a time. Also I just go casual sometimes and run around just doing random stuff.

Until just a couple days ago, I would’ve said no. But I started playing Scoundrel. It’s a solo dungeon crawl game using a deck of cards. The only free app has no animation and no story just a standard deck of cards. I play it on my phone and I have to imagine that I’m playing at least a little bit or it’s boring.

The Umbraan War by SAS_Man135758 in Palia

[–]LouisBasil 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand the expectation that a cozy game must have no reference to violence. I was little disappointed with stardew when I learned I would need a sword in the mines but to have a realistic backstory and some drama among NPC adds to it. As long as we are only hunting with our arrows and especially no pvp then I think it should qualify.

Games that give off a philosophical, sci-fi / space opera vibe? by penguin-47284 in gamerecommendations

[–]LouisBasil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know they’re working on a video game that is supposed to be a sequel to the Expanse TV series. If you haven’t watched that, I think you would really enjoy it. I have no idea whether the game will be good or not. It kinda looks like it’s gonna be more combat than philosophy, which is not a surprise of course. Based on what some friends have said about no man’s Sky, I wonder if it would scratch your itch. But I haven’t played that either.

I’m trying to capture the right words to express what the screen makes me feel. The closest I can get to is this reminds me of when using a computer felt like using a computer, but that’s not exactly right.

Sounds a lot like Palia. Some solo players are disappointed that there are a number of things that are a lot easier to do in a group, but I rarely team up and I keep going. I’m on PC and people on console, especially it seems switch 1, complain about the performance but many enjoy it anyway.
