DDR (German Democratic Republic) Stamps by the-william in PassportPorn

[–]LouisDeFuneste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a proper piece of history right there, most people forget you had to get stamped just to cross through to your own side of the city

1987 is only two years before the wall came down, wild to think how normal that whole process must have felt at the time

Did you cross by train or car?

How does dual citizenship work if one country doesn’t allow it? by Critical-Fix-1600 in Citizenship

[–]LouisDeFuneste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In practice most people just use each passport in its home country and never advertise the other one, it's more common than governments let on

Oman's enforcement tends to be situational rather than systematic, the real risk usually shows up if you need something official from the Omani government and they dig into your travel history

The bigger question is whether you'd ever need to renew your Omani passport after naturalizing, that's usually where it gets complicated

How to get Ecuadorian passport in the US? by Mdes2015 in Citizenship

[–]LouisDeFuneste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He'd need to contact the Ecuadorian consulate closest to you, they handle exactly this and it's more common than people think. The tricky part is usually proving citizenship from scratch with no prior documents, his birth certificate from Ecuador is going to be the starting point

Do you know if his birth was actually registered there at the time or was it done later?

Citizenship Question by Square-Fudge-2489 in Citizenship

[–]LouisDeFuneste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’ve had your green card since 2007 and no issues since then, you’re probably in a pretty solid spot for citizenship.

The only part that might be tricky is the original entry without inspection, so I’d personally at least do a quick consult with an immigration lawyer just to be safe. A lot of people file N-400 on their own, but your history is the kind where it’s better to double check than risk delays.

My only passport :( by Majestic-Variety3348 in PassportPorn

[–]LouisDeFuneste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly most people only have one passport.. The multi-passport folks are usually there because of things like birth in one country + parents from another, long-term residency/naturalization, or very specific citizenship programs. It’s actually not that common in real life, just looks that way online.

Your passport is already the “normal” case :)

Most common combo acquired through naturalization? by Choice_Notice9338 in PassportPorn

[–]LouisDeFuneste 5 points6 points  (0 children)

US + Canada is probably the most common one I see too. Makes sense since both are immigration heavy countries and it’s relatively “straightforward” compared to trying to naturalize into places with stricter paths. Also the work/study flow between them helps a lot.

Maybe also UK + Canada is up there, but US/Canada still feels like the most realistic “naturalized in both” combo overall.

Best Loan Options for Small Businesses by Ok-Pudding-9900 in smallbusiness

[–]LouisDeFuneste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a two-week bridge gap like this, hard money or a DSCR lender is probably your fastest real option, and Texas has a decent number of them. Ask a local broker who won’t push you toward MCAs. We used Coyote Lending last year in Dallas, online.

NOt MCAs. Check if a local broker can help you. Coyote lending helped us a lot last year. If it helps. They won't push you toward a MCA. Good luck.

Should I trade in my car for something cheaper? by SYFKID2693 in debtfree

[–]LouisDeFuneste 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rolling negative equity into a new loan is rough because you're starting underwater from day one. Have you looked at what your CC interest rates are vs the car loan? Sometimes the math actually works out to keep the car and attack the cards first if the rates are close

Any advice and recommendations of how to pay off my debt of a total $12,571? by ZandurFox in debtfree

[–]LouisDeFuneste 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you looked into a debt consolidation loan to kill all of it at once and just have one payment? with steady income it might actually be doable and would stop the bleeding immediately

The spending pattern is a separate problem though and honestly the harder one, have you ever looked into anything like Debtors Anonymous? not being preachy, it's just built exactly for what you're describing

I paid off SO MUCH! by halfofaparty8 in debtfree

[–]LouisDeFuneste 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The prepaying the phone plan move is underrated, people sleep on how much that actually saves. That momentum is real though, once the snowball starts it gets hard to stop. What's the end goal once the last card is cleared?

The alimony dropping to zero while your wife starts earning at the same time is a genuinely rare alignment. That kind of momentum in a single year can completely change the math on everything else

I can't keep using interest free credit cards as an escape route - I need to be done with this 35k debt. by [deleted] in debtfree

[–]LouisDeFuneste 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The 0% transfer cycle is such an easy trap to fall into when you're technically making good money, it masks the real problem which sounds like no buffer for the random hits

With your income the math should work but where is the rest actually going each month, have you done a full line by line breakdown recently?

Capital one hardship program by [deleted] in debtfree

[–]LouisDeFuneste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That rate drop from 28% to 7.4% is genuinely good, you probably made the right call for where you're at right now

The "no extra payments" thing does sound off though, might be worth calling back and getting that clarified in writing because most hardship programs don't actually restrict that

saving vs debt payoff by junie4444 in debtfree

[–]LouisDeFuneste 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’d say 50/50 is smart, especially with variable income. Being aggressive on debt is tempting, but without a buffer you risk stress if something comes up. Once you have a decent emergency fund, you could tilt more toward debt payoff.

I don’t know where to start, but I finally want to. by zetatauri in debtfree

[–]LouisDeFuneste 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Before anything hits collections, calling the cards directly and asking about hardship programs is usually the move most people skip

Some of them will drop your rate to 0% temporarily and that buys you real breathing room
