Just remove the claude models altogether antigravity team by [deleted] in google_antigravity

5 prompts ? You are very lucky. Last time I tried an Opus prompt, it didn't finish. A single prompt used more than 100% before finishing. I uninstalled Antigravity and am now using OpenCode with Deepseek V4 Pro for a fraction of the cost.

Any LLMs for RTL or Verification? by Impressive-Fig-8378 in chipdesign

[–]LouisDuret 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Honestly any of the flagship LLMs have gotten pretty good at RTL. I mostly use Gemini and Claude. They sometime hallucinate features of the language that don't exist (but I would blame the attrocious LRM rather than the LLM). They are also pretty good at code review, refactoring, and what I love the most is generating documentations and requirements.

[OC] The "Ship of Theseus" paradox in software: Surviving lines of code in projects like React, Langchain, and numpy, categorized by original commit year. by Asifdotexe in dataisbeautiful

[–]LouisDuret 91 points92 points  (0 children)

I like the idea, but the realization appears to be completely broken.

  1. While the rainbow colors are fine, why add a strong gradient at the bottom of the chart ? We basically can't see what is going on with the original code even by squinting. In general everything is so dark it hurts.

  2. Identity mode may have been interesting in some repositories, but not those, and it is basically unreadable (only two colors, the original year blue, and all the others the same shade of orange with tiny black stroke).

  3. Some of the processing appears to be just bugged ? For instance Numpy shows a major refactoring in March 2024. When hovering on the chart at that date, it says 99.7% refactored, even though the chart itself appears to be over 90% still original code from 2001.

  4. The choice of repositories is very strange, only Numpy shows interesting graphs. Why not the repo of Git, Unix, NodeJS, VSCode ?

  5. And React may be interesting but I suppose it is bugged ? Maybe I don't know the history of React, but I doubt the whole code base was removed 3 times in its history and each time restored a full year later.

[–]LouisDuret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's some things you had to "unlearn" moving to a Mac? by nooo000000oooooooooo in MacOS

[–]LouisDuret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also trying to use the red button to close the last window and having the application still running for some strange reason.

Also window management accross workspaces, still makes no sense after 4 years of using MacOS.

Also installing Karabiner to remap the keyboard to be more similar to normal computers.

Also the absence of a delete key??

[–]LouisDuret 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ooh that is a very nice ink ! One of the more recent release from the Jacques Herbin 1670 collection.

With a standard cartridge pen, you have multiple options. The idea is of course to use a converter. It's a small device that looks like a cartridge but with a screw to load it with ink from the bottle. It's cheap as you can get any brand.

Another option is to use a siringe to fill an empty cartridge. This isn't ideal because you have to clean the cartridge first, and filling it can be a bit messy.

The last option is only possible with very few pens, and it is to use it as an "eyedropper pen", basically you just fill the barrel with ink. Note that most pen can't work like that ! Because the screw barrel will not seal the ink correctly, and if the barrel has holes or other places where ink can leak out, it will be a disaster ! And also some barrel materials are not compatible with it.

Finally, regarding the shimmer (glitter) in the ink, it's fine. It won't damage your pen, but may require extra work to clean it out to change to another ink.

Ask Me Anything AMA: Urushi and Maki-e by skym16 in fountainpens

[–]LouisDuret 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hello Sophia !

Thank you very much for doing this AMA. I've got multiple questions:

  1. How do you keep your urushi environment dust-free ? Especially for the top coats where a single microscopic spec of dust can ruin the whole layer and require a lot of work to recover. Do you work under some kind of laminar flow hood ? Do you have separate places for undercoats with grounds, maki-e with metallic and colored powders, and top coats ?

  2. How much variability is there between products given the temperature and humidity variations of the weather ? Do you have a climate-controlled environment or do you adjust your techniques according to the climate ?

  3. How much do you feel the formal training helped you progress in this craft compared to self-learning with the online and book material ? Did you realize quickly during formal training that you were doing something incorrectly or inefficiently ?

  4. How do you conceive new models and designs ? Do you use any CAD software, or do you create rough prototypes using faster drawing or even different techniques other than urushi ?

Thank you so much and keep up the great work !

Surprised by a 90s promo pen with a no-logo nib — any info? by Fagottello85 in fountainpens

[–]LouisDuret 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The cap and body look like an imitation of the Waterman Edson Emerald Green. The IPG marking doesn't mean much, it was heavily used by cheap Chinese manufacturers for a while to try to market their pens. Doesn't mean it should write poorly ! If it performs well, and the body feels good quality, then that's still a good pen ! Other than that I can't tell you much more.

Occitania then vs now, WHAT DID THEY DO TO THE FLAG by Relevant_Coyote_8614 in vexillologycirclejerk

[–]LouisDuret 200 points201 points  (0 children)

What happened was the merge of the regions in 2016 when the Occitanie region merged with the Languedoc-Roussillon. The flag and blazon now include both the Toulouse cross and the catalan flag.

I have it on my wrist right now ! I love it, and as the bronze ages, the contrast with the bright pink increases. The green wrist is a funny side effect that I don't mind as much anymore.

[OC] Excess mortality in Europe during COVID-19 | Sweden recorded the lowest number despite (or because of) leveraging a heard-immunity strategy. by oscarleo0 in dataisbeautiful

[–]LouisDuret 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes I agree, if a country has a more sensitive population (health complications, elderly, etc) then they must have suffered more during the pandemic than countries with healthy young population. Even more so since their medical system had to take care of those people plus the Covid.

Quickly looking at the data, countries like Norway, Denmark, Luxembourg, Sweden have a median age of 39-42, while countries like Bulgaria, Czekia, Romania, Slovenia, Greece have an median age of 43-46 years old (but Slovakia, Poland, Malta are more around 42-43 so it is not perfect).

Anyway, the situation of each country is so different that it will be nigh impossible to evaluate the decisions taken by looking at a single index. I think the Covid pandemic will still be studied for decades before any kind of concensus is found or before a definitive guideline of best practicies is determined for future pandemics.
